You’re Disrespectful – Yul Edochie Calls Out Rufai Oseni, Questions His Moral Authority On National TV
Nollywood actor Yul Edochie has launched a scathing attack on Arise TV anchor Rufai Oseni, accusing him of arrogance and unprofessional conduct in his approach to journalism.
In a video circulating online, Edochie revisited a past controversy involving Oseni, where the broadcaster was reportedly caught driving on a Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) lane in Lagos. The actor questioned Oseni’s credibility, arguing that someone who allegedly flouted traffic laws should not position himself as morally superior on national television.
“Is this not the same Rufai Oseni that was caught driving against traffic? I think he drove on BRT lane… somewhere in Lagos. Rufai Oseni same guy. He drove on BRT lane which is wrong and when officials caught him instead of apologizing and admitting that he was wrong, what was he saying? He was shouting, ‘Do you know who I am? I’m going to call the governor of Lagos State.’”
Edochie claimed that the journalist only apologised after a video of the incident surfaced online.
“You could not even apologize. If not because somebody had a video… that was the only time when you saw the video that was when you came on national TV to apologize. If there was no video what would have happened?”
The actor went on to fault Oseni’s interviewing style, accusing him of embarrassing and disrespecting guests on live television.
“The first thing they should have taught you is to respect your guests. If you have a guest and you’re talking in a particular manner and the guest does not like it, first thing you do is to apologize to that guest, make the guest feel comfortable, then you continue with your question. How can you tell a guest that if the guest is not comfortable the guest is free to walk out of the studio and you call yourself a journalist? What nonsense?”
He repeatedly described the presenter as disrespectful and lacking the moral authority to speak down on others.
“You’re not better than anybody out there… You have no moral justification to talk to anybody on national TV that way because you’re not better than any Nigerian.”
Edochie also used the opportunity to defend President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, insisting that the Nigerian leader deserves respect and time to address the country’s challenges.
“Jagaban President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is the President of Nigeria… He is our president whether you like it or not. You must respect him. The man just came in, he’s been there for just months, give him time. Rome was not built in a day.”
Concluding his remarks, the actor maintained that Oseni’s conduct does not reflect true journalism and urged him to learn to show respect, both to interview guests and to national leaders. The video has since generated widespread reactions across social media platforms.
