Wale Says He Introduced Wizkid To International Spotlight

Nigerian-American rapper Wale has spoken about the part he played in Wizkid’s early journey to global recognition, revealing that he helped introduce the Afrobeats star to international audiences.

Wale recalled taking Wizkid to his first-ever BET Awards ceremony and also hosting him at his Beverly Hills home for an entire summer. According to him, that period was spent creating music and building a strong bond.

The rapper said he has long followed Nigerian music and enjoys listening to many artists from the country, even if he does not know all of them personally. However, his relationship with Wizkid stands out, noting that they have been close for nearly a decade.

Speaking on their connection, Wale said:
“I have been following Nigerian music, there are so many Nigerian artists that I like listening to. I don’t know some of them but I like listening to their music.

There are some I know personally like Wizkid. Me and Wizkid have been cool for almost 10 years now. I remember taking him to his first BET Awards show.

That is my boy. I once accommodated him at Beverly Hills for a whole summer. We were just writing music. We made a lot of songs together like ‘Drop for me’.”
