Toke Makinwa Explains Why She Stopped Paying Tithes, Chooses Direct Giving Instead
Toke Makinwa has sparked fresh debate after revealing why she no longer pays tithes to churches, saying many ministries are already financially secure.
Speaking during an interview on WithChude, the media personality explained that her approach to giving has shifted toward supporting people directly. She noted that many churches she knows are constantly funding building projects through congregants’ contributions.
“Every church is building. Every Sunday, there’s a building fund envelope. You guys have so much money and it’s not taxed. It’s a business, if we are going to be real. Because if that pastor dies today, either his wife or his child becomes the next pastor,” she said.
Despite stepping back from tithing, Makinwa clarified that she still gives offerings and contributes to church projects when necessary.
She added that she now prefers to channel her resources toward meeting real-life needs, such as helping people pay rent, supporting widows, and covering hospital or maternity bills, saying she feels called to make a tangible impact.
