I’d Rather Die Than Betray Mentor Gaidam, Yobe Governor Buni Says, Urges APC Unity

Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni has affirmed his loyalty to his political mentor, Minister of Police Affairs Ibrahim Gaidam, declaring that he would rather die than betray him. The statement was made on Tuesday as Buni addressed delegates at the All Progressives Congress (APC) state congress in Damaturu. “I would rather die than betray him. I remain grateful for the role he played in my political journey. I will never forget where I am coming from, and I will never turn my back on the man who trusted and supported me,” he said. Buni stressed that trust has been central to his political career, saying, “I am a product of trust. I have never betrayed anybody. I always want to be remembered as someone who never betrays anybody.” He called on newly elected APC officials in the state to perform their duties with dedication and uphold the principle of trust in their responsibilities. The governor also highlighted the achievements of his administration over the past seven years, particularly in education, primary healthcare, empowerment, and commerce, pledging continued focus on these sectors. On succession planning, Buni urged party members to pray for guidance in choosing the next APC gubernatorial candidate and to support a candidate capable of uniting the party and sustaining the initiatives of his administration.

Yobe Hisbah Commission Bans Physical Interaction, Private Chats Between Men and Women in Public

The Yobe State Hisbah Commission has rolled out new restrictions limiting interactions between men and women in public spaces, including private conversations in vehicles, as part of efforts to enforce Sharia principles. In a notice dated December 31, 2025, the Commission warned against what it described as reckless behavior during weddings, Sallah celebrations, and other social events. The rules prohibit men and women from sitting together in cars or on motorcycles, engaging in any form of physical contact, or holding private conversations disguised as casual chats. The directive, issued by State Commander Dr. Muhammad Yawudi Kale and approved by Chairman Dr. Yahuza Hamza Abubakar, aims to promote moral discipline and protect children’s upbringing. Parents, guardians, and community leaders have been called upon to support the enforcement of the measures, which are part of the Commission’s broader strategy to regulate public conduct and maintain Islamic values, especially during festive periods.
