BREAKING: Real Madrid Sack Xabi Alonso After Super Cup Loss To Barcelona

Real Madrid have officially ended their association with head coach Xabi Alonso, just hours after the club’s dramatic three–two defeat to Barcelona in the Spanish Super Cup final played in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The club confirmed that the decision was reached by mutual agreement, bringing an abrupt end to the forty-four-year-old’s short spell in charge at the Santiago Bernabeu. The timing of the exit, coming less than a day after the painful loss to their fiercest rivals, has fueled speculation about mounting internal pressure within the club. Alonso, who returned to Madrid last summer from Bayer Leverkusen, endured a difficult and turbulent tenure. Reports of dressing-room unrest had followed him in recent weeks, with claims that he was struggling to retain the full support of the squad. The Super Cup defeat, which saw Madrid surrender late against Barcelona, appeared to be the final straw. In an official statement, the club said, “Real Madrid CF announces that, by mutual agreement between the club and Xabi Alonso, it has been decided to end his time as first team coach.” Despite the sudden nature of the decision, Real Madrid paid glowing tribute to the former midfielder, adding, “Xabi Alonso will always have the affection and admiration of all Madrid fans because he is a Real Madrid legend and has always represented the values of our club. Real Madrid will always be his home.” The statement also acknowledged the efforts of Alonso’s backroom staff, saying, “Our club thanks Xabi Alonso and his entire technical team for their work and dedication during this time, and wishes them the best of luck in this new stage of their lives.” While the club maintained a cordial tone, the swift move has left supporters stunned. With crucial fixtures ahead in both La Liga and the Champions League, attention now turns to how Real Madrid will steady the ship following Alonso’s sudden departure.

Leverkusen: Boniface stay amid Saudi bid

Bayer Leverkusen coach Xabi Alonso said Wednesday that Nigerian striker Victor Boniface is set to stay at the club following reports of a possible transfer to Saudi Arabia. Boniface had been left out of the squad in Leverkusen’s preparations for their 2-0 win over Sparta Prague in the Champions League on Wednesday, and Alonso had said Tuesday it was due to talks with an unnamed club. German media had reported the negotiations were with Saudi Arabia’s Al Nassr, where Cristiano Ronaldo plays, and involved a fee of €70 million euros ($73 million). “He will train again tomorrow. I believe he is staying with us,” Alonso said when asked about Boniface after the win over Sparta. “So I have to say that I am satisfied, I am happy.” Alonso said Boniface could play Sunday against TSG Hoffenheim in the Bundesliga and added: “He is comfortable here, so I don’t believe that this is a big stress for him.” The apparent collapse of a possible Boniface transfer could remove one obstacle for a move to Saudi Arabia for Aston Villa striker Jhon Durán. He has also been linked with Al Nassr and was an unused substitute in Villa’s 4-2 win over Celtic on Wednesday. Boniface hasn’t played since November because of injury, but had been on the bench for Leverkusen’s last two games before Wednesday.

Boniface in talks to leave Leverkusen -Alonso

Bayer Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso confirmed Tuesday striker Victor Boniface is in talks to leave the club in the current transfer window. Sky Germany have reported Boniface, 24, is set for a move to Saudi Arabian club Al-Nassr, to play alongside Cristiano Ronaldo, for a transfer fee in excess of 50 million euros ($52 million). Boniface arrived in Leverkusen from Belgian side Union Saint-Gilloise 18 months ago for 20 million euros. He has scored 29 goals and laid on 11 assists in 49 matches for the club, but has not played since picking up a hamstring injury on international duty in November. The Nigeria striker missed training ahead of Wednesday’s Champions League clash with Sparta Prague. “There are discussions with the club and we need to wait. We’re preparing without Boni,” Alonso told reporters Tuesday. “We will see. We need to wait a bit more but our preparation is with the rest of our squad who are ready and fit and in good shape at the moment. “It’s the last Champions League game and that’s our focus.” Alonso revealed Leverkusen were “getting close” to signing more players during the winter window and added: “I’m very satisfied with the squad and with our quality… and will be (at the end of the window).” In Boniface’s absence Patrik Schick has returned to form for Leverkusen with 13 goals in his past nine league games. Schick said Tuesday a possible Boniface departure “doesn’t change very much… I’ve always been focused on myself and I’m not looking at anyone else. “I’ll keep going like I have and whether Victor is here or not.” The 29-year-old Schick came through the youth system at Sparta Prague and said with a smile he was looking forward to some extra attention from the visiting fans. “It will be fun — I expect them to insult me from the stands.”
