Lawyer Sues Tonto Dikeh Over Viral Deliverance Video Involving Schoolgirl, Seeks ₦200m Damages

Human rights lawyer Ikechukwu Obasi has filed a suit against Nollywood actress Tonto Dikeh over a viral video showing her performing a deliverance ritual on a schoolgirl in Abuja. The case was filed at the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory under the Fundamental Rights (Enforcement Procedure) Rules 2009. Obasi is seeking a court declaration that the actress’s actions violated the rights of the child involved. The suit was filed on behalf of the minor, a Junior Secondary School One student at JSS Durumi II in Abuja, who is originally from Rivers State. In an affidavit attached to the filing, the lawyer said he came across the video and photos on Tonto Dikeh’s official Facebook page on March 6, 2026. The footage reportedly showed the actress conducting what he described as a forceful religious deliverance on the student during a school visit. According to the affidavit, the child was placed on bare ground and held against a rough surface while the ritual took place. Obasi argued that the incident amounted to harassment and exposed the girl to public embarrassment. He told the court that the actions not only undermined the student’s dignity but could also cause emotional stress and shame, particularly after the video circulated widely on social media. The lawyer also expressed concern about the public sharing of images and videos of the child, stating that it violated her right to privacy under the Nigerian Constitution and the Child Rights Act. Obasi further argued that portraying the schoolgirl as possessed by evil spirits and attempting to cast out those spirits could subject her to ridicule and discrimination, especially in communities with strong beliefs in witchcraft and spiritual attacks. He emphasized that the conduct went beyond normal religious practice and risked exposing minors to public stigma. Through the suit, the lawyer is seeking a declaration that the alleged deliverance ritual violated the child’s right to dignity under Section 34 of the 1999 Constitution, as well as provisions of the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights and the Child Rights Act. The court is also being asked to rule that performing religious rituals on children in this manner infringes on their fundamental rights. Additionally, Obasi is requesting orders requiring the actress to remove all related videos and photos from her social media accounts and to issue a public apology to the child and Nigerian children in three national newspapers. The suit also seeks to prohibit Tonto Dikeh from conducting similar deliverance rituals on minors in Nigeria in the future. Finally, the lawyer is demanding N200 million in damages for the alleged violations of the child’s rights to dignity and privacy.

Tonto Dikeh Responds To Backlash Over Deliverance Video, Says Her Eyes Are On Jesus

Nollywood actress Tonto Dikeh has fired back at critics following the reactions that trailed her recent deliverance video, insisting that she will not be discouraged from speaking about her faith. Responding to the backlash, the actress explained that the mission she believes God has given her is too significant to be derailed by online opinions. She said her attention remains fixed on Jesus rather than the criticism circulating on social media. “THE ASSIGNMENT GOD HAS PLACED UPON ME IS TOO IMPORTANT TO GET DISTRACTED. MY EYES ARE ON JESUS, AND HE NEEDS NO ONE TO DEFEND HIS NAME.” Dikeh, who described herself as Evangelist Tonto Dikeh, stated that she is willing to face public ridicule if that is what comes with openly declaring her faith. “I EVANGELIST TONTO DIKEH WOULD RATHER BE MOCKED, RIDICULED, would rather be mocked, ridiculed, or even slain than silence the name of the one who saved me. I REFUSE TO HIDE GOD TO PROTECT MY IMAGE BEFORE MERE MORTALS.” She maintained that the criticism has not shaken her resolve, adding that she would gladly accept mockery if it means remaining true to her beliefs. “IF IT COMES TO IT, I WILL WEAR MOCKERY LIKE PERFUME AND CARRY REPROACH LIKE A CROWN, BECAUSE HE IS WORTH IT ALL.” Concluding her message, the actress expressed love for both those who support her and those who oppose her, while suggesting that the battle she faces is spiritual rather than personal. “I LOVE YOU ALL(the good, the ugly and the bad) THE WORLD IS NOT FIGHTING ME, THE KINGDOM OF HELL IS, AND I UNDERSTAND THIS. SO NO HATE OVER HERE, WE BATTLE ON OUR KNEES IN PRAYER. THAT WHERE TRUE STRENGTH IS FORGED, AND TRUE VICTORIES ARE WON.”

VeryDarkMan Warns Tonto Dikeh Over School Deliverance, Says Children Shouldn’t Be Used For Spiritual Content

Social media influencer Martins Otse, widely known as VeryDarkMan, has criticized Nollywood actress and evangelist Tonto Dikeh after she led a deliverance session at a school during an evangelism outreach. Tonto Dikeh shared videos showing her praying for a female student, explaining that she sensed a “spirit of death” around the school and felt compelled to intervene. She described the session as an effort to protect the student and the school community. In response, VeryDarkMan took to social media to condemn the act, warning the actress not to involve children from his community in such spiritual demonstrations. He wrote: “With all due respect to Tonto Dikeh, this is a warning: do not come to my area to do this again. Na only poor man children good to test your powers. Leave my area kids alone. We want to raise kids with real-life orientation, not an ideology that if you don’t make it, there is something following you from the village. Prayers are good; however, without work, prayers are not useful. Take your new content somewhere else. Leave ghetto kids alone.” VeryDarkMan added that the school is in his area and argued that children should not be used for content creation or spiritual performances. The comments have sparked debate online, with many Nigerians expressing differing views on the involvement of children in religious activities and the role of spiritual interventions in schools. “Toto Dikeh, don't try this again with my area kids. We want to raise kids with good life orientation and not your fake miracle.”—VDM pic.twitter.com/6uxgBPcUDp — VERYDARKMAN (@vdmempire) March 6, 2026

Tonto Dikeh Prays For Student During Outreach, Sparks Mass Spiritual Revival At School

Nollywood actress and philanthropist Tonto Dikeh has shared a remarkable experience from her faith journey, describing how she prayed for a schoolgirl she sensed was under a “spirit of death” during a recent evangelism outreach. In a video posted on her Instagram on Friday, Dikeh said the incident took place shortly after she and her team wrapped up an outreach at a school. She explained that she felt a troubling spiritual presence in the area, prompting immediate prayer from her and her team. “Today, God allowed me to see a glimpse of the ministry He has placed upon my life. I was delivered from the marine world so that I may become an instrument in His hands to deliver others,” Dikeh said. She recalled that while leaving the school, she sensed a dark spiritual force and shared her concern with her team. Within minutes, a young girl approached her, asking for prayer. The student revealed she had been seeing bats repeatedly, prompting Dikeh and her team to pray for her. “The Holy Spirit took over. The presence and glory of God filled that moment. The spirit of death was confronted, the demonic attack was broken, and God’s power brought deliverance. She was also one of the students who had previously given her life to Christ, making the experience even more powerful,” Dikeh said, adding that her team will continue to follow up with the girl as part of ongoing spiritual guidance. Tonto, who recently said she prefers to be called an evangelist rather than “King Tonto Dikeh,” described the event as just the beginning of God’s work in her ministry. She expressed gratitude to her spiritual mentors, Jerry Eze and Eno Jerry, for their guidance and prayers. “God is only just beginning with us as a team. As the Word says: ‘Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love Him,’” she said. She also thanked her mentors for raising “radical soldiers for God” and blessing the materials used during the outreach, noting that God’s presence was clearly evident. Dikeh concluded by highlighting the impact of the outreach, revealing that more than 100 students gave their lives to Christ. “All we can say is: Thank You, Lord Jesus, for everything You did today. God is reclaiming what belongs to Him — THE WORLD.”   View this post on Instagram
