Tolu Odukoya Reflects On End Of Marriage, Calls It Circumstances Beyond Her Control
Associate Senior Pastor of The Fountain of Life Church, Tolu Odukoya, has broken her silence on her failed marriage, describing her separation as an experience that changed her life. Speaking in an interview with Truthtable, shared on her YouTube channel, the 40-year-old pastor disclosed that many people were unaware of her marital status. “I’ll say it plainly—I’m separated. Most people don’t know, but it has shaped my life. It was circumstances beyond my control,” she said. She likened the collapse of her marriage to losing a loved one. “You don’t enter into a marriage to leave it. When your marriage ends, it’s like a death,” she explained. Despite the painful experience, Odukoya stressed that separation does not necessarily mean fault. “My ex-husband is a great man, but if God hasn’t ordained the union and you try to force it, the chances of lasting together are very slim,” she added. Odukoya recalled enduring a series of personal losses between 2021 and 2023, including the deaths of her stepmother, her father’s twin sister, and her father, Pastor Taiwo Odukoya, who passed away in the United States in August 2023. She also reflected on her pastoral journey, saying she felt unqualified at first. “When the call came, I told God, ‘You see all the baggage I’m carrying, but if You want me to serve, then maybe You’ve put something in me.’ I just kept my eyes on Jesus,” she said. Grateful for her family’s support, she noted: “My siblings were amazing, my dad fought for me, and my family encouraged me. Their embrace helped rebuild my self-esteem.” Advising others, Odukoya urged people not to remain in troubled marriages just because of public perception. “Don’t stay somewhere unhealthy because of what people will say. People will talk, but they’ll move on,” she concluded. Her brother, Pastor Jimmy Odukoya, now leads The Fountain of Life Church following their father’s passing, while Tolu continues to serve as associate pastor.
