Sunday Igboho Faces Backlash After Wearing APC Cap At Olubadan’s Ramadan Lecture

Yoruba nation activist Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has sparked social media debate after he was spotted wearing a fez cap emblazoned with the logo of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) at a public event on Tuesday. Igboho attended the first Ramadan lecture hosted by the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rasheed Ladoja, since the monarch’s coronation. In a video that quickly went viral, the activist was seen greeting Oba Ladoja and the event’s guest lecturer, Chief Imam of Offa, Sheikh Muyideen Salmon, while wearing the APC-branded cap. The sight immediately drew criticism and comparisons to separatist leader Nnamdi Kanu, with many questioning the consistency of Igboho’s political stance. On Twitter, one user, #Jaythrilli, wrote: “Sunday Igboho shamelessly gallivanting with an APC cap on. You can’t be fighting for Yoruba freedom and still dine with the people who impoverished the same Yoruba people. Reason I don’t rate him at all.” Another, #Felixherbt, commented: “For those who still don’t understand what Mazi Nnamdi is fighting for, soon you will all understand. Today, Sunday Igboho is jumping around with the APC cartel. They promised Nnamdi Kanu a political position to win him over; he rejected it. My respect for MNK has doubled.” User #Admiral_Cyborg added: “From freeing the Yoruba from the claws of the Fulani to kissing the ring. I present to you, Sunday Igboho! This is why Kanu is still in Sokoto.” On Facebook, Samuel Olafusi expressed his surprise: “Wait, is that an APC cap on his head? If you really join, you become a saint. Why has Nnamdi Kanu not been released? They got punished for the same reasons. Nigeria is truly divided, and we live in a transitional democracy.” Some, however, offered a more measured perspective. #daddyfemzy said: “You can’t really blame this guy. He was in an asylum, declared wanted by Buhari, dead or alive. The recent APC caucus brokered his return home courtesy of Ladoja. What do you expect? Let’s be practical. If you were him, wouldn’t you?” The video has reignited conversations about the intersection of activism and politics in Nigeria, raising questions about the paths of prominent separatist figures like Sunday Igboho and Nnamdi Kanu.

We’ll Flush Out Bandits If FG Gives Approval — Sunday Igboho

Yoruba nation campaigner Sunday Adeyemo, widely known as Sunday Igboho, has signalled his readiness to work alongside the Federal Government to combat insecurity in the South-West. Speaking in Ibadan, he said he and his supporters are willing to enter forests across Yorubaland to dislodge bandits and other criminal elements, but stressed that such action would require formal approval and backing from Abuja. “I need the support of the Federal Government to strengthen security in the South-West. I’m ready to enter the forests in Yorubaland with my boys to flush out terrorists who have been attacking our people in rural communities. “We can’t do anything if the Federal Government does not give us approval or support. With my freedom and pardon, I am ready to collaborate with the Federal Government to rid our forests of criminal elements and rogue herders who have become threats to the peace and tranquility of some of our communities.” Igboho, who has previously led community-driven efforts against suspected criminals in parts of Oyo State, described his offer as a contribution toward restoring safety in rural areas. His latest position marks a notable shift from his earlier standoff with federal authorities. In July 2021, security operatives raided his residence in Ibadan over allegations of stockpiling arms. The operation resulted in the death of three of his aides and the arrest of 13 others. He later fled the country and was arrested in Cotonou, Benin Republic, before regaining freedom in March 2022 after over a year in detention. Since returning to Nigeria on January 26, 2026, Igboho has reconnected with traditional rulers, including the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Rashidi Ladoja. He also acknowledged the roles played by the Ooni of Ife, Adeyeye Ogunwusi, and the Olugbon of Orile Igbon, Francis Alao, in facilitating his return. Reaffirming his stance, he said the administration of President Bola Tinubu must formally endorse any collaboration. “If the Federal Government under the leadership of President Tinubu gives us the go-ahead and support, I am absolutely ready to work in ensuring the effective security of our rural communities in the South-West. We have the capacity and manpower to carry out the task if we get approval and support from the government.” Beyond security in the South-West, Igboho also weighed in on developments in the South-East. He commended the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, for cancelling the long-running Monday sit-at-home directive. “Igboho believes that the move by Mazi Kanu to end the five-year Monday economic siege on the South-East zone is thoughtful.” He further advised Kanu to pursue dialogue with the Federal Government as a pathway to resolving his legal challenges. “Chief Igboho urges the IPOB leader to vigorously explore dialogue and mediation with the Federal Government to break the deadlock in his ordeal.” According to Igboho, meaningful engagement and negotiation remain key to restoring peace, stability, and economic growth in the region.

Sunday Igboho Returns To Nigeria After Removal From Wanted List, Praises Tinubu And Oba Ladoja

Chief Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has returned to Nigeria following the removal of his name from the country’s wanted list. Igboho arrived from self-exile in Cotonou, Benin Republic, and was warmly received at his Soka, Ibadan residence by supporters, Muslim clerics, and well-wishers, who offered prayers for his safe return as well as for President Bola Tinubu and the traditional rulers who helped secure his freedom. The activist, visibly emotional, recounted the difficulties he faced under the late President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration, when he was declared wanted, denied a Nigerian passport, and had his bank accounts frozen despite favorable court rulings. His return marks another homecoming after fleeing Nigeria on July 1, 2021, following a raid on his Ibadan residence by a combined team of the Department of State Services and the Nigerian Army over alleged stockpiling of arms and ammunition. Igboho had previously returned briefly to Nigeria in 2024 for his late mother’s burial. This time, he proceeded to the palace of the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, where he was warmly welcomed by supporters. Oba Ladoja prayed for his success and praised his resilience. In a speech at the palace, Igboho expressed gratitude to God, the President, and traditional leaders for their support. He said, “I’m grateful to God Almighty for this day. I’m also grateful to our President. Baba Olubadan Ladoja was instrumental to my final freedom. Since the day I was in Cotonou, he has been checking up on me as a son. Baba Adebanjo also helped me. Baba Ladoja spoke with elders in Yoruba Land and coordinated with the President to ensure my clearance.” He added, “He told me to pack my load and return home. I never thought I would come back. I’m very happy, which is why I have come to pay homage to Baba Ladoja. I’m sincerely grateful to President Bola Tinubu.” Igboho also called for unity among Yoruba people, saying, “My advice to Yoruba people is for us to unite so that we can take our region to greater heights. I’m confident that President Bola Tinubu is making efforts to improve security.”

Olubadan Vows To Intervene In Sunday Igboho’s Dispute With Federal Government

The Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, has promised to intervene in the ongoing challenges faced by Yoruba nation activist, Chief Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, in his dispute with the Federal Government. The assurance came during a closed-door meeting at the monarch’s Bodija residence in Ibadan, where both men discussed Igboho’s ordeals and possible solutions. According to a statement from Igboho’s media office, the meeting, which lasted about 40 minutes on Monday, also focused on the growing insecurity in the South West and reports of bandit attacks in parts of Kwara State. A source at the meeting revealed that Oba Ladoja pledged to wade into Igboho’s current troubles with the government, including his designation as a wanted person and the restrictions placed on his bank accounts. Under the administration of the late President Muhammadu Buhari, Igboho was declared wanted and accused of stockpiling weapons. His Soka residence in Ibadan was raided by operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigerian Army on July 1, 2021, leading to the death of two of his aides and the arrest of 13 others. During the visit, Igboho congratulated Oba Ladoja on ascending the throne, describing him as a leader widely admired in Ibadan and across Yorubaland. He also expressed readiness to work with the Federal Government to improve security in the South West. “Olubadan has been a father figure to me since his days as governor of Oyo State. His reign as Olubadan will no doubt further promote peace, unity, and development in Ibadanland and Yorubaland,” Igboho stated.
