Enugu Man Remanded For Allegedly Killing 19-Year-Old Cousin In Nsukka
A 51-year-old man, Emeka Emmanuel Nwangwu, has been remanded by an Enugu State Magistrate Court for the alleged murder of his 19-year-old cousin, Loveth Uloma Nwangwu, in Nsukka Local Government Area. Nwangwu, a member of a local neighbourhood security group, was arraigned on Wednesday after detectives from the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) completed investigations ordered by the Commissioner of Police, Mamman Bitrus Giwa. Police spokesperson Daniel Ndukwe confirmed that the suspect was arrested on December 1, 2025, following an incident in which he allegedly assaulted the deceased, resulting in fatal injuries. “The suspect was apprehended after violently attacking the deceased, leading to injuries that caused her death,” Ndukwe stated. Following the arrest, Commissioner Giwa directed a thorough investigation, which culminated in Nwangwu being charged with a one-count murder. The court subsequently ordered his remand at the Enugu Correctional Centre and instructed that the case file be forwarded to the Ministry of Justice through the Directorate of Public Prosecution for legal review. Giwa also expressed sympathy to the family of the deceased, assuring them that justice was underway. “We extend our condolences to the family and friends of the deceased. The investigation has been concluded, and the suspect has been arraigned and remanded,” he said. The incident has sparked renewed calls for stricter oversight of local security groups and improved community safety measures.
