Security Agents Attempt To Arrest Former Kaduna Governor Nasir El-Rufai On Return From Cairo

Security agents reportedly tried to arrest former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai when he landed in Nigeria from Cairo, Egypt. The development was revealed on Thursday by El-Rufai’s Media Adviser, Muyiwa Adekeye, via social media. “Security agents today attempted to arrest Malam Nasir @elrufai as he arrived on a flight from Cairo. Malam El-Rufai declined to follow them without a formal invitation. They, however, snatched his international passport from an aide,” Adekeye stated, without specifying which agency was involved. A short video from the scene shows El-Rufai confronting the officers, saying, “Listen, nobody, not even the President, can tell me I have to do anything,” and asking them to present a written invitation if they required his presence. El-Rufai, a prominent member of the opposition African Democratic Congress (ADC), had previously warned that his arrest was likely upon returning to Nigeria. “Four people we worked with in Kaduna have been arrested; so it’s only a matter of time before they come for me too,” he told BBC Hausa on Wednesday.
