Senator Ned Nwoko has countered claims circulating on social media from his estranged wife, actress Regina Daniels, insisting she was never denied access to their children and that her absence was a voluntary decision. Nwoko stated that the issue had already been determined by a court, which ordered Daniels to undergo rehabilitation and be evaluated by the Abuja Social Welfare Department as conditions for restoring access to the children. In a statement posted on his X account on Tuesday by his communications team, the senator accused Daniels of presenting a distorted narrative, saying her online posts do not reflect the family’s long-standing practices. According to the statement, “The recent posts by Regina present a version of events that is both misleading and inconsistent with long-established family practice. Publicly sharing moments involving the children has never been new, unusual, or controversial within the family.” The statement further rejected suggestions that Daniels had been shut out of the children’s lives, describing such claims as inaccurate. Nwoko maintained that the children have remained in a setting designed to protect their routine, emotional wellbeing, and overall stability. Emphasising the standard of care expected from any parent, the statement added, “Children deserve a parent who is emotionally present, mentally sound, and sober most of the time. This is not an unreasonable expectation; it is the minimum standard of care any parent owes their children.” The senator’s remarks came a day after Daniels shared an emotional post describing the pain of being separated from her children. She wrote that no mother could truly be at peace in such a situation and expressed confidence that she would reunite with them soon, stating, “I may be young, but I am such a mum, I enjoy being a mum and I miss being a mum. I will definitely see my kids soon!” Nwoko also restated the court’s position on the matter, saying the ruling favoured him and came with clear directives for Daniels. “The ruling was resolved in favour of Senator Ned Nwoko, with clear directions that Regina Daniels must undergo drug rehabilitation and be assessed by the Abuja Social Welfare Department before access can be restored to Munir (5) and Khalifa (3), the children of the marriage. The matter has been adjourned to 4 February 2026 for hearing of the substantive suit.” He cautioned that continued public commentary could further complicate the situation, warning that such actions risk “using the children as emotional shields to deflect from unresolved personal issues.” Nwoko concluded by urging Daniels to follow the court’s instructions, stressing that the most constructive path forward lies in compliance, healing, and long-term personal wellbeing, rather than fuelling renewed attention online.

I decided to stay off the matter to avoid causing more nuisance on this media space, but clearly this man keeps acting like a baby. Meaning it’s now safe to call this one-term senator a content creator.” Regina revealed that she last spoke to her children in mid-November and accused Ned of dismissing her nannies and pressuring them to make false claims against her. “The last time I spoke to my kids was mid November. Ned dismissed all my nannies, pressured them into making false statements accusing me of violence and alcohol abuse in front of the children, and has since filed for full custody, despite already having the children in his care,” she wrote. She questioned why she is being treated as a threat while affirming her love and commitment to her children. “I am left to wonder whether I am truly such a threat that I am being challenged so aggressively. I may be young, but I am such a mum. I enjoy being a mum and I miss being a mum. It’s so crazy if their father thinks I won’t come for my children. Days later, the same individual appeared in a fresh clip shared by the senator, apologising and confessing that he makes up stories online for attention. Reacting, Nwoko used the incident to raise alarm over what he described as the dangerous state of Nigeria’s social media space. “The accompanying video, trended a couple of days ago. It is testament to the fact that Nigerian social media space has become one of the most unregulated in the world. Laying very serious allegations have become a common trait to attract millions of views without recourse to the damaging effects on the people involved.” He warned that the lack of consequences for online falsehood encourages people to fabricate damaging stories simply to trend. “This case and many others has now clearly justified the urgent need for the social media bill in the National Assembly. You can’t lie to make money and turn around to apologize after criminally defaming and hurting people.” The senator also took aim at social media companies, insisting they should be legally compelled to operate offices in Nigeria and be held accountable for content shared on their platforms. “It is time for social media companies to be mandated to open offices in Nigeria and to take responsibility for what they allow on their platforms. If landlords are being threatened with punishments for actions of their tenants who are yahoo boys, what stops social media companies from being held responsible for allowing defamatory contents in their platforms.” He further questioned why foreign tech firms enjoy what he described as regulatory freedom while Nigerian media organisations face strict defamation laws. “All our local media houses comply with laws concerning defamation. Why make an exception for foreign companies who don’t pay taxes and ultimately avoid all manner of liabilities because of the absence of regulations.” Nwoko concluded by calling on Nigerians to support his proposed social media regulation bill, noting that it would create jobs, improve tax revenue, make litigation easier, help in tracking criminals, and ensure that national data remains within the country. “It’s Senator Ned today, who knows who is next?” The accompaning video, trended a couple of days ago.
