National Assembly Postpones Plenary Resumption To March 5, 2026
The National Assembly has postponed its plenary resumption, shifting the schedule from Tuesday, February 24, 2026, to Thursday, March 5, 2026. The announcement was made on Monday in a statement signed by the Clerk of the National Assembly, Kamoru Ogunlana. The delay is intended to give committees additional time to complete ongoing budget defence sessions with various ministries, departments, and agencies. The statement said: “This is to inform Distinguished Senators and Honourable Members of the National Assembly that the plenary session earlier scheduled for Tuesday, 24th February 2026 has been postponed to enable committees to conclude ongoing budget defence exercises. “Plenary will now reconvene in both chambers on Thursday, 5th March 2026 at 11:00 a.m. Members are requested to take note of the revised date and time.” The postponement comes as lawmakers continue detailed reviews of the 2026 Appropriation Bill, with several committees still meeting with government agencies to ensure a thorough evaluation of the budget. Both the Senate and the House of Representatives are expected to resume plenary sessions promptly at 11:00 a.m. on the new date. The National Assembly leadership expressed regret for any inconvenience caused by the change and urged all members to note the revised schedule.
