Fuel marketers accuse Dangote Refinery of distributing substandard petrol

Dangote Petroleum Raises Petrol Price to N799 Per Litre, MRS Stations Sell at N839

Dangote Petroleum Refinery has increased the price of petrol sold to marketers from N699 per litre to N799 per litre, with MRS filling stations now retailing the fuel at N839 per litre. In a statement on Monday evening, the refinery said the adjustment follows the end of the festive season. “With the festive period concluded, PMS prices have been modestly realigned to sustainable levels to support long-term market stability and affordability. Under the current alignment, the PMS gantry price is N799 per litre, while MRS retail outlets are selling at N839 per litre,” it said. The refinery stressed its commitment to stable pricing and a steady petrol supply nationwide. It noted that during the festive period, prices were temporarily reduced to ease financial pressure on households during high spending periods. According to the statement, this marks the second consecutive festive season in which the refinery absorbed extra costs in the national interest, citing logistics support in 2024 and a price cut in 2025 as part of efforts to keep fuel affordable and maintain market calm. “Despite the price reduction, many filling stations failed to reflect the new price at the pump, thereby denying Nigerians the benefits of the reduction,” the statement added.

NNPCL Cuts Petrol Price Again To N815 Per Liter

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has reduced the price of premium motor spirit (PMS) once again. On Monday morning, a DAILY POST correspondent observed that NNPCL retail stations in Abuja are now selling petrol at N815 per liter, down from the previous N835, representing a N20 drop. The new price has been implemented across NNPCL outlets in Wuse Zones 4 and 6, along Keffi‑Abuja Road, and on Kubwa Expressway. An attendant at one of the stations, who preferred to remain anonymous, confirmed that the reduction took effect on Sunday evening. However, NNPCL’s current price is still N79 higher than the N739 per liter being offered at MRS filling stations backed by Dangote Refinery nationwide. This latest cut follows a previous N80 reduction by NNPCL on December 19, 2025, when petrol was sold at N835 per liter, amid a pricing competition triggered by Dangote Refinery’s N699 gantry price.

Filling Stations Cut Petrol Prices As Landing Cost Falls Below Dangote Refinery Rate

Fuel stations in Nigeria have started lowering petrol prices following a drop in the landing cost of premium motor spirit, which now sits below Dangote Refinery’s ex-depot price. DAILY POST reports that major filling stations in Abuja, including NIPCO, AA Rano, Eterna, and Empire Energy, have reduced their pump prices. NIPCO and AA Rano now sell petrol at N940 per litre, down from N950–N955, while Eterna and Empire Energy have adjusted their prices to N945 and N955 per litre, respectively, from N955 and N959. The reductions range from N4 to N10 per litre. NNPCL outlets in the city have also cut their price to N945 per litre from N955. Some stations, including MRS (Dangote Petrol) and Ranoil, have not yet changed their rates, maintaining prices at N950 and N955 per litre. An MRS manager, speaking anonymously, said, “We may reduce our price later today, but for now, it remains N950 per litre.” The price cuts follow data released on November 3, 2025, by the Major Energy Marketers Association of Nigeria, which showed the landing cost of petrol dropped to N827.04 per litre from N829.77 at the end of October. Current ex-depot prices for major refiners show Dangote Refinery at N872 per litre, Pinnacle at N872, and NIPCO, BOVAS, Aiteo, and AA Rano at N870 per litre. This makes Dangote Refinery slightly more expensive than some depot owners, while the landing cost is N44.96 lower than Dangote’s ex-depot price. The adjustments come as President Bola Ahmed Tinubu approved a 15 percent import duty on petrol and diesel to promote Dangote Refinery. Analysts warn that once implemented, the duty could increase the cost of imported fuel in the coming days.

Dangote Refinery Cuts Petrol Price to N835 per Litre Amid Global Oil Drop

In a major development for Nigeria’s downstream oil sector, the Dangote Petroleum Refinery has announced another reduction in the gantry price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol. The new gantry price is now pegged at N835 per litre, down from N865, representing a 3.5 per cent decrease. The latest adjustment comes on the heels of a steady decline in global crude oil prices, which have fallen from over $70 per barrel to $64 per barrel in recent weeks. This move follows a previous reduction by the refinery from N880 to N865 per litre, a change which oil marketers reportedly failed to reflect in retail prices at the pump. As Africa’s largest oil refinery with a capacity of 650,000 barrels per day, Dangote Refinery continues to shape Nigeria’s energy landscape, offering a potential solution to the country’s long-standing fuel supply and pricing challenges. The refinery’s consistent pricing adjustments in response to market trends aim to encourage competition and transparency in fuel distribution across the country.
