Bola Oyebamiji Emerges APC Consensus Candidate In Osun Governorship Race

Bola Oyebamiji, the immediate past Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority, has clinched the All Progressives Congress ticket for the Osun State governorship race after emerging as the party’s consensus choice. His adoption was concluded at the APC primary held in Osogbo, where fellow aspirants Kunle Adegoke (SAN) and Senator Babajide Omoworare formally proposed his candidacy. The motion was presented to party members by the chairman of the APC governorship primary committee and Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, and was unanimously endorsed through a voice vote. Announcing the outcome, Okpebholo declared, “By the power conferred on me, I present to you Bola Oyebamiji, as the governorship candidate of our party.” The primary commenced with the arrival of the committee led by Okpebholo, who had earlier indicated that the party’s flagbearer would be chosen by affirmation. He was joined by the committee’s co-chairman, Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, alongside Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule, Dr Obafemi Hamzat representing the Lagos State Governor, and former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello. Ahead of the exercise, the party confirmed 1,660 delegates eligible to participate in the primary. Developments leading to the event also pointed to an agreement among the seven APC governorship aspirants in the state to support a consensus candidate following a late-night meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the State House in Abuja. Former APC National Secretary, Senator Iyiola Omisore, later publicly endorsed the arrangement. Speaking on TVC News’ Politics Tonight, Omisore said he aligned with the party’s decision after consultations with President Tinubu, despite being among the aspirants earlier disqualified by the APC Screening Committee over alleged violations of party and electoral guidelines.

BREAKING: Adeleke Officially Joins Accord Party

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has officially joined the Accord Party and announced his plan to run for a second term in 2026. The declaration came on Tuesday at the Banquet Hall of the Government House in Osun, in the presence of national and state leaders of the party. Adeleke revealed that he had actually joined the Accord Party over a month ago, on November 6, following weeks of consultations with stakeholders and opinion leaders. “I joined the Accord Party as a platform to seek re-election in 2026. This decision follows careful deliberation and engagement with stakeholders and residents of Osun State,” Adeleke said. “We chose Accord because its focus on welfare aligns with our commitment to improving the lives of citizens and workers.” The governor welcomed party leaders into the Government House, emphasizing unity and collaboration. “We are united in progress and good intentions for the people of Osun State and Nigeria. Our task now is to maintain a united front and ensure inclusive leadership that benefits all groups,” he said. Adeleke also highlighted the party’s emphasis on citizens’ welfare, noting that good governance is measured by the well-being of the people. “Our administration has worked day and night to improve infrastructure, social services, and overall welfare. Osun Governor Adeleke To Reveal New Party Before December 13 After PDP Resignation

Osun State Governor Senator Ademola Adeleke is set to officially reveal his new political party before December 13, following his resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the State Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, has confirmed. Alimi said Adeleke submitted his resignation letter to PDP officials in Sagba Abogunde, Ward 2, Ede North Local Government, on November 4, 2025. The commissioner spoke on a political programme on Rave FM in Osogbo, the state capital, on Tuesday, explaining that the resignation was prompted by prolonged internal crises within the PDP. “The governor of Osun State and Asiwaju of Ede has formally resigned from the PDP. This has been pending for a long time,” Alimi said, urging residents to remain calm and continue supporting Adeleke. He cited a Yoruba adage, saying the people are the governor’s protectors. Alimi noted that the PDP’s national-level divisions, along with the approaching governorship election and the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) nomination deadline, made Adeleke’s decision necessary. “The governor is satisfied with the response so far. Without the divisions at the national level, which affect the nomination process, he would not have defected. This is about addressing the reality of the upcoming election in August and the INEC nomination window closing by December 15,” Alimi said. He also dismissed claims that the All Progressives Congress (APC) welcomed Adeleke’s resignation, explaining that the APC expected him to be manipulated but underestimated his political strategy. Alimi confirmed that discussions on Adeleke’s new party are ongoing and that a formal announcement will be made on or before December 13, ahead of the December 15 deadline for party nominations and primaries. Reiterating the reason for Adeleke’s departure, Alimi said, “Had the PDP not been fractured at the national level, there would have been no need for Governor Ademola Adeleke to resign.”

Adeleke Faults Tinubu Government Over Alleged Seizure Of Osun Local Government Funds

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has accused President Bola Tinubu’s administration of marginalising his state and withholding local government funds despite a subsisting court order directing their release. Adeleke, who made the allegation on Thursday at the South-West Stakeholders’ Dialogue held in Akure, Ondo State, said the Federal Government’s actions were politically motivated and contrary to democratic principles. The event was themed “Strengthening Democracy Through Dialogue: Assessing Progress, Charting the Future.” Represented by his deputy, Kola Adewusi, Adeleke lamented that the rule of law was being undermined in Osun, where federal power was allegedly being used to interfere in state matters. He said, “A troubling dimension was introduced earlier this year when the rule of law was replaced with the rule of the thumb. In Osun, federal authority is being exercised outside constitutional boundaries, threatening peace and intergovernmental harmony.” The governor alleged that certain security agencies had become tools in the hands of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), protecting party loyalists even when they act unlawfully. “Federal party officials openly boast of using security forces to intimidate and witch-hunt state officials. Some even declare their intention to hijack the state, whether the people voted for them or not — and they do so under security protection,” he stated. Adeleke further claimed that Osun’s local government funds were seized earlier this year without a court order, while individuals removed from office by judicial rulings were allegedly reinstated through federal influence and the backing of security operatives. He expressed disappointment that despite Tinubu being from the South-West, Osun continued to be sidelined in federal dealings. “Our olive branch for collaboration is often rejected due to political partisanship. Federal interactions with Osun have become dictated by partisan considerations rather than fairness and constitutional order,” he lamented. Adeleke urged South-West governors to rise above political divisions and work together for regional development. He praised the Development Agenda for Western Nigeria (DAWN) Commission for promoting unity and proposed the creation of a circular cargo railway project across the South-West in partnership with the Federal Government. He added, “The South-West must elevate development above politics. We must adopt a collective strategy that prioritises progress and economic growth over partisan interests.”

Adewusi explained that the appointment is part of the state government’s broader plan to revitalize sports in Osun and establish a sustainable funding model through partnerships with private and public stakeholders. “We are in the advanced stages of creating the Osun State Sports Commission, which will coordinate sports administration, development, and policy implementation,” he said. “The Sports Trust Fund is intended to attract support from sports philanthropists both within and outside the state, ensuring long-term financing and growth for sports initiatives.” He revealed that Davido accepted the role without hesitation, noting that the music star’s global influence and connections are expected to draw significant investment and attention to Osun’s sports sector. Adewusi also highlighted the ongoing renovation of Osogbo Township Stadium, which is expected to meet Olympic standards once completed. “The project aims to transform the stadium into a world-class facility capable of hosting national and international events,” he added. With Davido leading the Sports Trust Fund, the government hopes to usher in a new era of sports development and infrastructure transformation in Osun State.
