Moshood Jimoh assumes office as Lagos 41st Commissioner of Police

A new Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Moshood Jimoh, has assumed duty as the 41st Commissioner of Police at the Lagos State Command. He takes over from CP Olanrewaju Ishola, who has been redeployed to Force Headquarters, Abuja. CP Jimoh, who hails from Ilorin, Kwara State, studied Political Science at the Ahmadu Bello University and was appointed into the Nigeria Police Force as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police in 2000. He has worked in different parts of the country including Katsina, Cross River, Anambra, FCT, Oyo, Gombe and Rivers. He was Divisional Police Officer (DPO) Central Police Station, Abuja; Force Public Relations Officer; Deputy Commissioner, Criminal Investigation Department, Airport Police Command; Deputy Commissioner, Finance and Administration, Oyo State Police Command and Deputy Commissioner, General Investigation, FCID Annex, Gombe. He has undergone several professional trainings some of which include: Combat Operations Course, Police Mobile Training College, Maiduguri; Weapons of Mass Destruction Counter Measure First Responder Training Course, United States Embassy, Abuja; Crime Prevention of Korea Police, Police Training Institute, Seoul South Korea; Social Construction and Management Reform, China Executive Leadership Academy, Pudong China; Maritime Rescue and Salvage for Developing Countries, China Maritime Police Academy Ningbo, China; Training on Anti-hijacking Techniques and Tactics for Developing Countries, Special Police Academy, Beijing, China; and SMART Government and Informatization at Academy for International Business Officials (AIBO), Beijing, China. CP Jimoh is a recipient of the Presidential award for Public Relations Personality of the Year in recognition of his sterling qualities and outstanding contribution to the development and use of Public Relations by the Nigeria Institute of Public Relations. He was also a member of the African Union Peacekeeping Mission in Darfur Sudan where he got an Award of Recognition for Commendable Service. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Management Consultants (IMC), Nigeria; Certified Management Consultant (CMC) by Institute of Management Consultant (IMC), Nigeria; Fellow, Institute of Corporate Administration of Nigeria; Associate, Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria (ARCON); and Member, Nigerian Institute of Public Relations. Policemen, Naval personnel clash in Delta

The Nigeria Police Force, Delta State Police Command has revealed the real reason behind the men of the Quick Response Squad clash with some Naval personnel in the State recently. In a statement issued and made available on Wednesday, the Police Public Relations Officer, Delta State Command, Superintendent of Police, Edafe Bright claimed the clash eschewed as the Naval personnel make attempts to ensure the release of a suspected drug peddler. “The command is aware of the embarrassing situation between Policemen attached to the Quick Response Squad of the Command and some Airforce personnel attached to Airforce base Jeddo in Okpe Local government Area where the personnel of Nigeria Airforce without any provocation attacked the policemen who were performing their lawful duty. “On 11/2/2025, at about 1700 hours, operatives of Quick Response Squad (QRS) while on crime prevention patrol flagged down a Toyota Corolla car with reg. no. AKD-73-FL, but the occupants of the vehicle on sighting the police took to their heels which prompted the policemen to go after them, and arrested one of the suspects identified as Ibohama Precious aged 25yrs and recovered some weed suspected to be Indian hemp, Canadian loud and other hard drugs. “While the Policemen were on their way to the station alongside the suspect and exhibit, upon getting to the Airforce checkpoint at Jeddo, they were stopped by the Airforce personnel and were told that they wouldn’t be allowed to proceed until they released the suspects they were carrying which the policemen vehemently resisted and subsequently, the Airforce personnel attacked the Policemen without justification. “The Delta state Police command under the leadership of CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, the Nigeria Airforce, Navy, Army and other security agencies in the state have a cordial working relationship worthy of emulation and the incident is indeed an embarrassing one,” SP Edafe Bright pointed out. He assured that the Commissioner of Police Delta State CP and Airforce authorities are looking into the ugly incident and putting all modalities in place to forestall future occurrence of this embarrassing situation.

Police begin enforcement of 3rd Party Insurance on Motorists

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun has ordered the enforcement of the Mandatory Third Party Insurance which will commence on February 1st, 2025. In a statement signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi on Friday, the initiative is aimed to reinforce road safety measures and ensure that all vehicle owners comply with the stipulated insurance requirements to protect themselves and others on the road. The Nigeria Police Force cautioned vehicle owners and operators against non-compliance with this essential regulation. Failure to possess valid Third Party Insurance will result in strict enforcement actions, including fines or penalties or both, as mandated by relevant extant laws. The staement reads in parts; “Effective February 1st, all vehicle owners nationwide are required to possess valid Third Party Insurance as they move about, and those without the Insurance, are advised to be insured quickly to avoid any sort of embarrassment. “The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has directed all State Commissioners of Police to ensure due enforcement, as Police officers will be empowered to conduct checks and enforce penalties for non-compliance in line with relevant extant laws. “The Nigeria Police Force remains dedicated to enhancing road safety and protecting the lives of all citizens through the enforcement of traffic laws and regulations. Cooperation from members of the public in this crucial endeavor is much appreciated.”

Cybercrime: Nigeria Police recover N8bn

In the relentless efforts of the Nigeria Police Force to tackle every form of crime in all spheres, the Force has recorded an outstanding achievement for the year 2024 in retrospect, particularly in the area of combatting cybercrime. In the year 2024, the Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Center (NPF-NCCC) successfully recovered a staggering N8,821,001,881.80 (Eight Billion, Eight Hundred and Twenty-One Million, One Thousand, Eight Hundred and Eighty-One Naira, Eighty Kobo), 115,237.91 USDT, and $84,000 (Eighty-Four Thousand Dollars). These significant amounts have been restituted to the victims of cybercrime, reaffirming the commitment of the Force to protecting citizens and ensuring justice for those affected by fraudulent activities. Similarly, in the past year, the Cybercrime Unit has actively engaged in strategic operations, resulting in the arrests and prosecutions of over 751 individuals involved in cybercrime. The unit has successfully recovered a total of 685 devices that were used in these nefarious activities, which include 467 mobile phones, 137 laptops and computers, 46 routers, 4 servers, 1 drone, and 4 Starlink devices. Additionally, the operations led to the confiscation of 16 houses, 39 plots of land, 14 land documents, and 26 vehicles, further dismantling the infrastructure supporting cybercriminal activities. In recognition of its outstanding performance and dedication, the NPF-NCCC has been awarded the title of the Best Cybercrime Unit in Africa for 2024 by the INTERPOL Cybercrime Directorate based in Singapore, securing the top position among 54 participating African countries. These achievements reflects the dedication of the Nigeria Police Force to fighting cybercrime and enhancing the safety of citizens in the digital space. In furtherance to efforts towards keeping the cyberspace safe, operatives of the NPF-NCCC have apprehended 4 suspects identified as Douglass Victor ‘m’, Egbo Efe Martins ‘m’, Lucky Adesunloye ‘m’, and Ndifreke Joseph Moody ‘m’, for various cyber-related offences. The Nigeria Police remains committed towards combating cyber threats, staying steps ahead of cybercriminals, thereby enhancing the nation’s overall cybersecurity framework and protecting the welfare of its citizens in the digital era. Pyrates condemn arrest, detention of Farotimi, demand immediate release

The National Association of Seadogs (Pyrates Confraternity) has condemned the unjust arrest and subsequent detention in prison custody of human rights activist and lawyer Mr Dele Farotimi over an alleged case of defamation against the founder of Afe Babalola University, Aare Afe Babalola. The group described the Police and Judiciary’s actions as an abuse of the rule of law, saying such a posture is an aberration and brings to the fore the dark era of the military. An Ado-Ekiti Magistrate Court, presided over by Magistrate Abayomi Adeosun, on Wednesday remanded Farotimi in prison custody until December 10, 2024. In a statement titled, “Enough is Enough! This Harassment, Intimidation of Innocent Citizens Must Stop Now,” by the NAS Capn, Dr Joseph Oteri, the association said the invasion of his law firm and subsequent harassment of his staff is a clear abuse of their fundamental human rights as guaranteed in the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Therefore, the association is demanding his unconditional release. It expressed concerns that these incidents underscore the deep-rooted flaws in Nigeria’s governance and law enforcement systems. The association said while Nigerians are still reeling from the shameful imprisonment and torture of minors for protesting against hunger, they were, again, confronted by another brazen disregard of the human rights activist. Ironically, the Pyrates Confraternity pointed out that the alleged offence of defamation, for which Farotimi was reportedly arrested, is a civil matter under Sections 373 and 375 of the Criminal Code. “Law enforcement must never be weaponised to target individuals or institutions for personal or political reasons. Upholding the rule of law is a non-negotiable cornerstone of any democratic society, and any deviation from this principle threatens the very fabric of justice and accountability,” it stated. The association argued that Farotimi’s persistent advocacy for justice and his documented outcries, including threats to his life and harassment of his associates, remain unresolved. NAS said instead of investigating these concerns and holding the culprits accountable, the Police again aligned with vested interests. “It is alarming that a civil matter has been distorted into a criminal issue, and the age-old bullying and intimidation tactics have once again been brandished and deployed, showcasing a blatant disregard for professional ethics, the Nigerian Constitution, and the principles of justice. “Such impunity erodes public trust in law enforcement and deepens the disconnect between the government and the people, especially in these delicate times,” the group added. The association, however, warned that this misuse of authority places undue pressure on the Judiciary and the Executive, raising serious questions about their commitment to upholding the rule of law and safeguarding public trust. “It is disheartening that the Nigerian Police repeatedly positions itself as a tool at the whims and caprices of the elites and powerful hegemony. “To stop this rising level of citizens’ harassment, the Pyrates Confraternity is calling on the Inspector General of Police, Mr Kayode Egbetokun, to take immediate corrective action and ensure accountability within law enforcement,” NAS said. Similarly, the association calls on the Executive to address these recurring lapses, while the Judiciary must reaffirm its mandate to uphold justice without fear or favour. The group said such measures are essential to prevent future misconduct and restore public confidence in the institutions entrusted with safeguarding our democracy. NAS insisted that the unjust arrests, bullying, and harassment, which have no place in a democratic setting, are not just stains on the rule of law but a renewed wake-up call for all arms of government to recommit to justice, accountability, and the protection of citizens’ rights.

Nigeria Police arrest major arms dealer, arrest 1246 suspects

These include the arrest of 371 armed robbery suspects, 186 kidnapping suspects, 242 Murder/homicide suspects, 63 suspects connected with the unlawful possession of prohibited firearms, 217 rape suspects, 167 suspected cultists and recovery of 210 various firearms, 3172 ammunition of various calibres. The Police was also able to recover 118 stolen vehicles and rescue ¬64 victims of kidnapping across the country. Turning to recent crime-fighting achievements, operatives of the Nigeria Police Force have made outstanding breakthrough in the fight against several types of violent crimes across the country, one of which is the arrest of a major arms dealer operating in Plateau State. The suspect, identified as Jubril Musa ‘m’ was arrested with 2 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition (long), 1 makarov pistol, 1 fabricated bronny pistol, a single round of 7.8mm live ammunition, 2 rounds of g3 live ammunition, 4 rounds of 7.6mm live ammunition (short), and a single round of 9mm live ammunition. The suspect further confessed to supplying these various arms and ammunition to bandits and kidnappers operating in the state. The Inspector General of Police once again reassures members of the public of the Police Force’s dedication to enhancing the safety and security of the country, implementing various tactical operations, intelligence-led policing, and community engagement strategies. The goal of these initiatives is to establish a substantial decrease in crime rates across the country and the record of significant strides in combating several times of violent crimes such as banditry, kidnapping, armed robbery, and cybercrime. Bobrisky falls ill, rushed to hospital

Controversial crossdresser, Okuneye Idris, popularly known as Bobrisky, has reportedly fallen ill while in detention at the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Annex, Alagbon, Lagos. After spending the night in a police cell, Bobrisky was rushed to Falomo Police Hospital for medical attention. A source confirmed the development, stating that he was transferred from the FCID to the hospital for treatment. The source said, “Bobrisky complained of ‘breast’ pain and was rushed to the Police Hospital in the Falomo area of Lagos around 2:00 p.m. in an ambulance with the plate number LND 339L. He wore a black gown, covered his face with a shawl, and lay down in the ambulance.” Bobrisky was taken into custody on Monday night by the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) following his arrest at the Seme border in Lagos during an alleged attempt to leave the country. There are indications that he may remain in detention as detectives continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding his arrest. The FCID is expected to obtain a remand order for his continued detention. A statement from the FCID regarding Bobrisky’s situation is expected later today. NIS spokesperson, Kenneth Udo, confirmed the arrest, describing Bobrisky as “a person of interest.” He further stated that the NIS had intercepted him at the Seme border as part of their efforts to secure Nigeria’s borders.
