Nationwide Power Outages Hit Nigeria After National Grid Collapse
Several parts of Nigeria were plunged into darkness on Monday following a collapse of the national electricity grid. The Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO) confirmed the incident on X, explaining that the national power supply had dropped to just 50 megawatts as restoration efforts began. NISO, which oversees electricity distribution to power companies, noted that only Abuja and Ibadan were receiving electricity at the time, a sharp decline from the 3,660 megawatts supplied on Sunday, December 28, 2025.
