Mohbad’s Father Insists Burial Waits Until DNA Test On Son Liam Is Completed

Joseph Aloba, father of the late singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, known as Mohbad, has declared that his son will not be laid to rest until a DNA test is conducted on Mohbad’s son, Liam. In a video shared on Tuesday, Aloba said, “The DNA test is the most important thing. Once it is done, Mohbad will be buried.” He further stressed, “Mohbad will be buried immediately after the DNA test is completed.” Mohbad died on September 12, 2023, and was initially buried the following day, a decision that sparked nationwide outrage. His body was later exhumed for an autopsy amid calls for a thorough investigation into his death. More than two years later, his remains remain in government custody. The renewed controversy over the DNA test comes amid persistent questions about paternity. Aloba has insisted that the test must be conducted in his presence or through a representative to ensure transparency. He maintains that he alone has the authority to authorize the burial and that the DNA result is crucial for “closure.”

Mohbad’s Father Drops Bombshell, Says Wunmi Was Never Married To His Son And Demands Urgent DNA Test

Fresh tension has emerged in the rift between the late Mohbad’s family and his widow, Omowunmi, after the singer’s father released a new message challenging the authenticity of their relationship. In the recording, he insisted he never witnessed or approved any traditional marriage rites, saying the only event he attended was an introduction ceremony. He questioned who received her bride price and stressed that nothing resembling a formal wedding took place. He said: “When my son was alive and Cynthia claimed to be pregnant, I felt it was necessary to meet her family properly. When we got there, I saw many of her relatives seated. We completed the introduction, and I met my son’s father-in-law for the first time. But I was shocked to hear claims that a traditional wedding happened without any knowledge or even the presence of the family head. Who collected the bride price?” He added that Mohbad had once cancelled plans to officially marry Omowunmi after accusing her of cheating. “He said he caught her with another man, informed his friend Myson and his elder sibling and mother, and then decided to tell me. That was why he called off the marriage plans.” He said these issues are part of why he continues to demand a DNA test for Mohbad’s son: “And that is one of the reasons why I’m asking for DNA.”

He insisted that he is risking his life to ensure justice is served, saying the footage clearly shows what happened and cannot be ignored. Mohbad’s Family Orders Wunmi To Stop Using Aloba Surname, Demands Fresh Probe Into Singer’s Death

The family of late Nigerian singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, has renewed its demand for a transparent and independent investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death. In a statement signed by the family head, Omolayo Aloba, and Mohbad’s father, Joseph Aloba, the family also directed the late singer’s partner, Wunmi Adebanjo, to stop using the family surname, “Aloba,” until a court-ordered DNA test confirms the paternity of her son, Liam. According to the statement, the family has appointed new legal representatives to handle all matters related to Mohbad’s estate and the ongoing DNA controversy. “The Aloba family remains resolute in its demand for a transparent, independent, and comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding Mohbad’s death. The family is committed to seeing that justice is served, the truth uncovered, and those responsible held accountable,” the statement read. The family announced that Oladayo Ogungbe, Esq., of Ogungbe & Ogungbe Attorneys, will serve as the sole legal representative in all estate and DNA-related matters, while Dr. Wahab Shittu (SAN) will continue representing the family in dealings with investigative authorities. Three administrators were also appointed to manage Mohbad’s estate, including his assets, royalties, and intellectual property. They were identified as Ajewole Aloba, Rasaq Famuyiwa, and Alonge Aloba. The family added that one slot would remain open for Wunmi Adebanjo if a valid DNA test confirms Liam as Mohbad’s biological son. “The appointed administrators are authorised to apply for letters of administration to manage all estate assets, including royalties, bank holdings, real and personal property, and musical intellectual property,” the statement said. The family further requested that Wunmi refrain from publicly or privately using the “Aloba” surname until the paternity test result is confirmed and family approval is granted. It clarified that no statutory or traditional marriage rites were completed between Mohbad and Wunmi. The statement added that if the DNA test confirms Liam as Mohbad’s son, both mother and child would be fully recognised in the estate administration process. The family also appealed for calm, noting that the DNA process is not meant to shame anyone but to ensure fairness and legal clarity in the distribution of the late singer’s estate. A new burial date and memorial plan, according to the family, will be announced after legal matters are concluded. However, Wunmi’s lawyer, Kabir Akingbolu, dismissed the family’s directive as “illegal and sentimental,” accusing them of attempting to mislead the public despite several opportunities to complete the DNA process. Akingbolu said the Aloba family had repeatedly failed to appear for the test despite multiple court orders and correspondence, insisting that his client is ready to comply anytime. “They were the ones who went to court to demand a DNA test. The court granted the order, but they refused to show up. We wrote four letters to them, and they never came. Later, they said they wanted it done abroad. The court again approved it, but they disappeared. We’re ready for the DNA any time, any day,” he said. Responding to the family’s directive for Wunmi to stop using the Aloba surname, Akingbolu maintained that she has every legal right to continue bearing the name, citing the Supreme Court’s decision in Ojukwu vs Ojukwu, which established that no one holds exclusive ownership of a surname. “Nobody can stop her from bearing Aloba. That is the name given to her by her husband, and under the law, she has every right to keep it. There are thousands of Alobas in the world. They are the ones avoiding the DNA test. My client has nothing to hide,” he added. The renewed tension marks the latest chapter in the ongoing dispute between Mohbad’s family and his widow over the paternity of their son and control of the singer’s estate. Mohbad died on September 12, 2023, at the age of 27, under circumstances that continue to generate controversy and calls for justice.

Police Rearrest Mohbad’s Close Associate Spending Amid Renewed Probe Into Singer’s Death

Ayobami Sodiq, widely known as Spending and a close associate of the late singer Mohbad, has been rearrested by the Nigeria Police Force amid a renewed investigation into the circumstances surrounding the musician’s death. A police source told PUNCH Metro on Monday that Spending was apprehended in Lagos last week and transferred to the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) at the police headquarters in Abuja, where he remains in custody. “Spending was brought to the force headquarters following a petition calling for a reinvestigation of Mohbad’s death. He was interrogated and subsequently detained,” the source said on condition of anonymity. The source also revealed that Mohbad’s wife, Omowunmi, had been invited for questioning. “She first came on Thursday, returned on Friday, and was later allowed to leave,” the source added. Force Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed Spending’s detention, clarifying that Mohbad’s wife was not in custody. “We have Spending in our custody; Mohbad’s wife is not here with us,” he said. Rights group United Advocates Group said Spending’s rearrest followed its petition to the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, urging a fresh probe into Mohbad’s death. In a statement signed by its counsel, Oluwatosin Adefajo, the group praised the IGP for approving the reinvestigation. According to the statement, the IGP, through a memo signed by DCP Asuquo Effiong on August 15, 2024, directed the police legal section to review the matter. The group had earlier submitted a five-page petition on August 10, 2024, requesting a thorough review, supplementing an earlier petition filed by Mohbad’s father through his former lawyer, Barrister Taiwo Odumosu. Adefajo noted that the group had extensive engagements with the Force PRO and Legal Unit, which culminated in an internal review and recommendation for reinvestigation. He expressed disappointment with the FCID Panti and Lagos Police Command for not providing updates or certified copies of the investigation report. To strengthen its case, the group also sourced a public statement issued by Lagos CP Owohunwa from the National Library. “The group continued to submit petitions in March 2025 and provided additional evidence upon police request. In April and May, they collaborated with private investigators and legal experts to gather new evidence, and were elated when the IGP approved a fresh investigation in April 2025,” the statement added. Mohbad, a former signee of Naira Marley, died on September 12, 2023, at 27 years old. Following his death, the Lagos State Police Command set up a 13-man special investigation team on September 18, 2023, to probe the case. In July 2025, a coroner’s court in Ikorodu recommended prosecuting 37-year-old nurse Fisayo Ogedengbe, who allegedly administered a tetanus injection to Mohbad shortly before his death.

Wunmi Calls Out Father‑in‑Law Joseph Aloba After SAN Quits DNA Case

Wunmi Aloba, widow of the late singer Mohbad, has slammed her father‑in‑law, Joseph Aloba, after a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) withdrew from the ongoing DNA case. On her Instagram story, she wrote: “Another lawyer, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), has withdrawn from the DNA case. To my father‑in‑law, you can get as many lawyers as you want from anywhere in the world; one thing’s certain — you can’t manipulate this DNA. I’m sorry.” She added: “Another lawyer gone. A whole SAN. When people are confident in the truth, they don’t run. They don’t hide. They don’t switch lawyers every month. They don’t ignore court calls. We have cooperated from Day 1. We have never opposed a DNA test. We showed up. We waited. We followed the law.” Wunmi accused her father‑in‑law’s team of delaying the process: “The only people delaying this process are the same people who requested it. No one can manipulate the court, and no one can manipulate science. Let the truth speak — for Liam, for Mohbad, and for justice. November 11 is around the corner. We will be there.” The case revolves around confirming the paternity of Liam, Mohbad’s son, with Wunmi insisting that she has fully cooperated while alleging that the delays stem from her father‑in‑law’s camp.

Mohbad’s Father Gives Lagos Attorney General 14 Days To Prosecute Wife, Nurse And Prime Boy

Mr. Joseph Oluwabamiwo Aloba, father of the late music star Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, better known as Mohbad, has petitioned the Lagos State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Lawal Pedro (SAN), to prosecute those indicted in connection with his son’s death. The petition, dated October 3, 2025, was filed through his counsel, Dr. Wahab Shittu (SAN), and submitted to the Ministry of Justice in Alausa, Ikeja. It demands that within 14 days, legal action be taken against Mohbad’s wife, Omowunmi Aloba, the auxiliary nurse, Miss Ogedengbe Fisayo, Ibrahim Owodunni a.k.a. Prime Boy, and others present in the singer’s apartment at the time of his death. The petition followed the coroner’s verdict delivered on July 11, 2025, by Magistrate Adetayo Shotobi, which found the individuals complicit. The coroner ruled that Miss Fisayo, who is not a certified nurse, doctor, or pharmacist, administered three injections to Mohbad without proper medical diagnosis, describing her actions as unlawful medical practice and gross negligence. The coroner also faulted Omowunmi, describing her decision to allow treatment by an uncertified auxiliary nurse and her failure to insist on emergency or hospital care as negligent. Others in the apartment, including Prime Boy, were indicted for either inviting the nurse or failing to ensure timely hospital treatment. Dr. Shittu stressed that despite these findings, no prosecutorial steps have been taken nearly three months after the verdict. He urged the Attorney General to take immediate action in the interest of justice, or alternatively, grant his legal team a fiat to prosecute the matter on behalf of the state. He emphasized that the matter has drawn wide public attention and outrage, insisting that justice must not only be done but be seen to be done.
