Amorim Accept Any Decision on Records After a Defeat

Rúben Amorim’s tenure as Manchester United manager is under intense scrutiny — and the numbers are not in his favour. Following a lacklustre run of form and mounting pressure from pundits and fans alike, here’s a look at the bleak statistical reality of his reign so far: Amorim’s Premier League win rate stands at just 26%, with 8 wins from 31 games. Among all managers to take charge of 20 or more league matches for United, only Alfred Albut (20%) and Scott Duncan (24%) have lower records. This gives Amorim the worst win percentage in all competitions for any Manchester United manager since World War II. In terms of attacking output, United have failed to score in 13 of those 31 league games and have only managed 36 goals in total. Defensively, United have conceded an average of 1.6 goals per game and have kept just five clean sheets. Former United captain Gary Neville has repeatedly pointed to Amorim’s lack of consistency in his defensive selections — with frequent changes to the back three and back five. Amorim has also struggled against quality opposition. He has only won four of 26 Premier League games against non-promoted sides. Away from home, United have just one win in their last 20 Premier League matches against the traditional “Big Six”, conceding 53 goals across those fixtures. This season has continued in poor fashion. United have just four points from their first four league games (one win, one draw, two losses) — their worst start since the 1992-93 campaign under Sir Alex Ferguson. Since Amorim took over, United have taken only 31 points from 31 league games. Following Tottenham’s recent win over West Ham, United now sit bottom of the table among ever-present Premier League teams based on results during Amorim’s tenure. Roy Keane heavily criticised the team’s attitude after the recent Manchester derby, singling out Luke Shaw and accusing the squad of lacking physical commitment. Gary Neville echoed the concerns, saying Amorim “doesn’t know his best defence.” Despite the criticism, Amorim has defended his approach. “I accept the results… but I won’t change my philosophy,” he said. “I’m suffering more than the fans. I’ll do my best until I’m here.” With results deteriorating and performances raising questions, the pressure on Amorim is reaching a boiling point. The coming weeks may be decisive for both the manager and the club.

Chelsea Signs Garnacho From Man U

Chelsea have officially signed Alejandro Garnacho from Manchester United for £40million. The fee makes Garnacho the most expensive academy graduate sale in United’s history, eclipsing the £24.5m received for David Beckham in 2003. The 21-year-old winger has agreed a seven-year contract with the Blues after passing a medical on Friday. United have inserted a 10 per cent sell-on clause in the sale agreement. Garnacho was in attendance at Stamford Bridge as Enzo Maresca’s side eased past Fulham to win 2-0 on Saturday afternoon. Now, the Argentina international will join his new team-mates as the international break falls upon us. His first opportunity to suit up in his new colours will come on September 13 when Chelsea travel to west London rivals Brentford. Upon signing, Garnacho said: ‘It’s an incredible moment for my family and I to join this great club. I can’t wait to get started. ‘I watched the Club World Cup and to join the world champions is special – we’re the best team in the world! ‘It’s amazing to be here and I’m very happy.’ Garnacho joined United’s youth set-up from Atletico Madrid in October 2020 and went on to make 144 senior appearances, scoring 26 goals and providing 22 assists. He lifted the Carabao Cup in 2023 and the FA Cup in 2024, but fell out of favour under Ruben Amorim towards the end of last season. Amorim told Garnacho at the end of the campaign that he was free to find a new club. The winger did not feature in pre-season and trained separately as part of the so-called ‘bomb squad’. Garnacho also publicly expressed his frustration after being introduced only late in United’s Europa League final defeat to Tottenham in May, a moment which appeared to accelerate his exit. Chelsea beat off competition to secure his signature after weeks of haggling over the fee. The Blues initially offered £25m, but talks eventually settled at £40m plus the sell-on percentage. Garnacho is expected to compete with fellow summer signing Jamie Gittens for a place on the left wing in Enzo Maresca’s squad. He joins a raft of new arrivals at Stamford Bridge, including Liam Delap, Joao Pedro, Jorrel Hato and Brazilian teenager Estevao. Garnacho is Chelsea’s 51st signing since the Todd Boehly era began in 2022.

Manchester United Enters Talks With Victor Osimhen

Manchester United have entered into talks with the entourage of Galatasaray centre-forward Victor Osimhen (26), Foot Mercato can reveal. The Nigerian international spends the season on loan with the Istanbul-based Süper Lig giants from SSC Napoli. Osimhen has easily settled in with Galatasaray, netting 33 goals and 8 assists in 37 games in all competitions. The former Lille OSC striker will leave Galatasaray as his loan does not include an option to make his move permanent. He has also set his sights on leaving Napoli. Foot Mercato understands that Osimhen is keen on joining the Premier League, and Manchester United may be one of the only clubs to meet his €12m per year wage demands. PSG are seemingly out of the running to sign Osimhen. The Red Devils are looking to change their attacking options as both Rasmus Højlund and Joshua Zirkzee have, so far, failed to meet expectations following their big-money arrivals last summer. The outlet adds that Manchester United drew up a 4-man shortlist to identify their next striker. Among these names are Ipswich Town’s Liam Delap and Sporting Portugal’s Victor Gyokeres. The Swede appears to be Manchester United’s priority, mainly in the event of Champions League qualification, which would be obtained by winning the Europa League. But it seems Manchester United are keeping their options open. Indeed, the Red Devils have reportedly met Osimhen’s entourage this Monday. Foot Mercato understands that Napoli will ask north of €75m to allow Osimhen to leave Antonio Conte’s squad.

Arsenal will be hoping to avoid becoming the third English casualty on the Parisians’ path to the final. On Wednesday, Barcelona host Inter Milan in another heavyweight Champions League tie. Kick-off is at 8:00 PM on GOtv Channel 66 (SS Action). Fresh from winning the Copa del Rey over the weekend and sitting top of La Liga, Flick’s men are chasing a historic treble. However, Inter, who knocked out Bayern Munich in the quarter-finals, will be no pushovers. Europa League: United and Spurs Out to Salvage Seasons The Europa League semi-finals kick off on Thursday, with both Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur needing strong results to rescue otherwise disappointing domestic campaigns. United will be away to Spanish outfit Athletic Club, with kick-off at 8:00 PM on GOtv Channel 66 (SS Action). Erik ten Hag’s side have struggled in the Premier League and are currently in 14th place, but edged past Lyon in a 13-goal thriller (7-6 on aggregate) to stay alive in Europe. Tottenham, meanwhile, face Norwegian side Bodø/Glimt at home. Kick-off is also at 8:00 PM on GOtv Channel 65 (SS EPL). Spurs, sitting 16th in the league, have endured a torrid campaign but narrowly beat Frankfurt 2-1 over two legs to reach this stage. A path to the final, and potentially Champions League football next season, remains on the line for both clubs. If both English sides can navigate their semi-finals, a blockbuster all-English final could be on the cards. Conference League: Chelsea Look to Keep Perfect Run Alive Chelsea have been the standout team in the UEFA Conference League this season, winning 11 of their 12 matches. They’ll look to extend that dominance when they take on Djurgårdens IF at Stamford Bridge on Thursday. Kick-off is at 8:00 PM on GOtv Channel 61 (SS Football). With their domestic top-four hopes fading, this competition presents a golden opportunity for silverware and continental pride.

Man United Reaches Agreement to Sign £63m Osimhen

Manchester United have reportedly pipped a host of European giants to secure the signature of highly sought after Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen. They have reached a ‘basic agreement’ with the star striker’s entourage for his salary terms, according to reports in Italy. The 26-year-old Galatasaray forward, currently on loan from Napoli, has a release clause of £63million available for non-Italian clubs. Ruben Amorim will be looking to sign another striker to bolster their attacking ranks with Rasmus Hojlund struggling to live up to his £72m price tag. The 22-year-old, who attracted criticism following his performance against Wolves on Sunday, has only scored three Premier League goals in 28 appearances this season. A swap deal, which would see the Dane moving to Naples, would make the deal more likely, Tuttosport said. Osimhen is one of Europe’s hottest strikers and has also been linked with Arsenal, Juventus and Barcelona. He has notched an impressive 29 goals in 34 games this season, including 21 in the Turkish Super Lig. He scored 31 goals in all competitions as he fired Napoli to a first Serie A title in 33 years in the 2022-23 season. However, he was forced to desperately search for a new club in last summer’s transfer window after Napoli boss Antonio Conte signed Romelu Lukaku and left Osimhen out of the squad.

Onana to Return for Man United vs. Lyon -Amorim

André Onana will return to the Manchester United team for their crucial Europa League clash against Lyon, head coach Ruben Amorim has confirmed. Onana was omitted for the 4-1 defeat to Newcastle United on Sunday after making two errors in the first game against Lyon last week. But the goalkeeper will return for the second leg at Old Trafford on Thursday, replacing No. 2 Altay Bayindir. Joshua Zirkzee will miss the game against the Ligue 1 side after being ruled out for the rest of the season with a hamstring injury picked up at St. James’ Park. “Onana will play tomorrow,” Amorim said. “I just think first of all as a coach and also as a former player, I try to do things that can help a player in this situation. “So sometimes we talk about managing players physically, we have to manage them also mentally but they have to return to competition. “Onana is ready, he had one weekend that I felt it was better for him to not play and a good thing for Altay to play and this week my thinking was to put Onana to play.” Speaking at a news conference on Wednesday, Amorim was also asked whether he could look to sign a new goalkeeper ahead of next season. “We need to improve every position on the field, goalkeeper is the same,” Amorim said. “We can work with André. André Onana already proved he is a top player with Inter. Altay the same with Fenerbahce. We are going to make that evaluation for any position in the squad. You can see my record. My record is the worst in the team. I am also underperforming.” The tie against Lyon is finely balanced after the 2-2 draw in France. Zirkzee came off the bench to score at Groupama Stadium, but will miss the return fixture after suffering a hamstring problem in the second half against Newcastle. Amorim confirmed the 23-year-old will not play again this season, leaving Rasmus Højlund as the only recognised senior striker in the squad. Højlund is enduring a difficult campaign with just eight goals in 43 games. “Joshua is out for the season,” Amorim said. “He will not play more this season, let’s prepare him for the next one. It is tough for him especially in this moment. “He is improving in all aspects and it is hard for any player to stop.” Despite languishing in the bottom half of the Premier League table, United could still finish the season with a trophy and a place in next season’s Champions League if they win the Europa League. Victory over Lyon would set up a semifinal against either Athletic Club or Rangers. Winning the competition would give Amorim a vital boost going into the summer and the Portuguese coach has admitted that playing in the Champions League would change what the club can do in the next transfer window. “It is more about the budget,” he said. “That is important when you are planning the next season. Champions League can change everything. You can see it both ways. If you have Champions League it is going to be tough to play against top teams on Wednesday and then top teams in the Premier League. “We are in the moment when the team needs a lot of work, that means a lot of time to train. We want to win the title, that is the most important thing. If you don’t have Champions League you have full weeks to rebuild the team.”

Rio Ferdinand urges Man United to pursue Osimhen deal

Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has urged the club to consider a loan move for Napoli striker Victor Osimhen. Frustrated by United’s 2-0 defeat to Crystal Palace, which saw them field Kobbie Mainoo as a makeshift striker, Ferdinand believes the club needs a proven goalscorer. “I 100 per cent agree with you. I completely agree. A natural number nine. Victor Osimhen, I would have gone with Osimhen on loan. Get him on loan now!” Ferdinand said on his YouTube show. Ferdinand believes Osimhen, who has scored 17 goals in 21 appearances for Galatasaray this season, would provide a much-needed goalscoring threat. “He guarantees you someone who can get on the end of things, scores goals, experienced, done it at the top level,” he added. Ferdinand expressed disappointment with the impact of Rasmus Hojlund, stating, “I’ve watched Hojlund closely the last two games… it just doesn’t add up. I’d be going to get Osimhen now if we can do it from a financial standpoint. Get him on loan now!” Osimhen is currently on loan at Galatasaray from Napoli, meaning any potential move would require negotiations with both clubs. Galatasaray do not want to let Osimhen leave and want to sign him on a permanent deal. The final call would come down to Napoli who hold all the cards in transfer negotiations fr the Nigeria international. Despite the challenges, Ferdinand believes a loan move for Osimhen could be a game-changer for United, who are currently struggling to maintain their position in the Premier League.
