TCN Announces Three-Day Power Outage in Parts of Lagos

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced a three-day power disruption affecting parts of Lagos due to scheduled maintenance on the Aja/Alagbon 330 kV transmission line. According to a notice issued on Friday, the maintenance will take place from 26 to 29 November 2025, between 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. daily. TCN spokesperson Ndidi Mbah explained that the exercise is necessary to install wave traps on the 330 kV line bays at the Aja and Alagbon Transmission Substations. The maintenance is expected to impact areas under the Eko Electricity Distribution Company, as well as parts of Ogun State, including Ojo, Festac, Ijora, Mushin (including Orile), Apapa, Lekki (including Ibeju), Lagos Island (including Ajele), and Agbara. During the maintenance, supply from Alagbon Substation will be diverted to the Ijora 132 kV line, while supplies to Akoka and Oworo Transmission Substations will be rerouted to the Ikeja West 132 kV line. TCN assured residents that brief load disruptions may occur, but power supply will generally continue during the exercise. The company apologized for any inconvenience and said the maintenance is part of ongoing efforts to enhance the reliability and efficiency of Lagos’ electricity transmission network. It was noted that parts of Lagos had also experienced outages in July and October 2025 due to earlier maintenance activities by TCN.

NDLEA Dismantles Colos Laboratory, Arrests Saudi-Bound Wanted Drug Lord in Lagos

After months of intelligence gathering and surveillance, operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested a notorious wanted drug lord, Yussuf Abayomi Azeez, at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos. Azeez was apprehended while attempting to travel to Saudi Arabia to perform Umrah, the lesser Hajj. According to a statement issued on Sunday by NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi, the 40-year-old suspect had previously been arrested and charged with drug offences in the United Kingdom before jumping bail and fleeing to Nigeria. Upon his return, he allegedly established a large-scale drug production laboratory in the Lekki area of Lagos, specializing in the manufacture of Colorado, a potent synthetic strain of cannabis. “At about 6:30 a.m. on Thursday, November 6, 2025, Yussuf walked into the waiting hands of NDLEA operatives at the Lagos airport while attempting to board his flight to Saudi Arabia for Umrah,” the statement said. “He was swiftly taken to his clandestine laboratory located at 17 Vincent Eku Street, Ogombo, Lekki, which had been under surveillance for some time.” During the operation, NDLEA officers from the Directorate of Forensic and Chemical Monitoring dismantled the facility and seized laboratory equipment, precursor chemicals, and already processed substances, including Colorado, weighing 148.3 kilograms. Azeez was arrested alongside Abideen Kekere-Ekun, 43, who was present at the laboratory during the raid. The NDLEA says the arrest marks a major breakthrough in its ongoing crackdown on synthetic drug production networks operating within Nigeria.

NDLEA Operatives Burst Drug Party, Arrest Over 100 Fun Seekers

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has warned night club operators and fun seekers about the creeping culture of organising, hosting and attending drug parties, a disturbing fad within social circles, which is a blatant illegality under the Nigerian law.   The Agency’s warning comes on the heels of a raid carried out by its operatives at a drug party, which held on the night of Saturday 25th October into the early hours of Sunday 26th October 2025, at Proxy Night Club located at 7 Akin Adesola street, Victoria Island Lagos where over 100 attendees were arrested along with the owner of the facility, Mike Eze Nwalie Nwogu alias Pretty Mike and his manager Joachin Millary.   According to the Agency, “any gathering organised for the purpose of consuming, distributing, or abusing illicit substances is an act of criminality. These ‘drug parties’ contravene the explicit provisions of the NDLEA Act and will be treated as serious narcotic offences. In the case of the drug party at Proxy night club, organisers went above board and had the audacity to produce and circulate flyers inviting fun seekers to come together to commit crime, an act that not only constitutes an incitement to commit crime but equally an affront to the law enforcement capabilities of the country if condoned.   “Nigeria is currently grappling with a very high prevalence rate of drug abuse, particularly among our youths. These illicit drug parties do not only fuel the drug scourge but equally serve as hubs for new recruitment into drug addiction and actively undermine our current national efforts to safeguard public health and security.   “In the recent case, the NDLEA was meticulous and professional throughout the processes leading to the raid and during the operation. Following intelligence on the party, our undercover agents conducted surveillance on the facility, made pre-purchases of illicit drugs from within the club and for four hours between 11pm on Saturday and 3am on Sunday during the party, our operatives observed and recorded drug transactions and abuse going on before we eventually disrupted the brazen public display of illegality and made arrests.   “All attendees initially arrested were later profiled, addressed, counselled and released within hours in custody, in line with best global practices while the two principal suspects: Pretty Mike and his manager, Joachin Millary remain in custody following the seizure of 384.882 kilograms of Canadian Loud, a strong strain of cannabis and other substances from the club’s store.   “While the Agency will intensify surveillance and apply the full force of the law against perpetrators, owners of properties, hotels, and event centres found to be knowingly hosting such illegal activities risk the confiscation and forfeiture of their assets to the Federal Government. Those held in custody in the ongoing case will face prosecution while we will file for forfeiture of the property, Proxy Night Club, in which the drugs were found.”   The Agency urged all patriotic Nigerians, parents, religious and community leaders, as well as concerned citizens to be vigilant, report such activities, and partner with the NDLEA in combating this threat to national well-being.

“Obi of Lagos” Chibuike Azubuike Apologizes to Lagos Government and Oba Over Controversial New Yam Festival

Chibuike Azubuike, popularly known as the self-styled “Obi of Lagos,” has issued a public apology to the Lagos State Government and the Oba of Lagos following backlash over his planned New Yam Festival in Amuwo Odofin. The festival, which Azubuike had proposed for September 13, 2025, drew criticism from residents who viewed it as an attempt to impose Igbo cultural practices in a state largely rooted in Yoruba traditions. In a statement published in a national newspaper, Azubuike expressed regret for his actions and promised to act responsibly going forward. “I, Mr Chibuike Azubuike, hereby tender this unreserved apology to the Oba of Lagos, the Federal Government of Nigeria, the Government, and the good people of Lagos State over my unguided proposal to hold the New Yam Festival scheduled for Saturday, 13th of September 2025, in the Amuwo Odofin area of Lagos State,” he said. He also clarified that the title “Obi of Lagos” was never self-assumed but was instead a printing error. “The caption therein as ‘OBI OF LAGOS’ was a typographical error from the print man,” he explained. Azubuike emphasized that the festival’s cancellation was voluntary and dismissed claims that it was politically motivated. “Contrary to insinuations that it was politically driven, I am not a politician. However, if I ever decide to join politics in the future, I would align with the ruling All Progressives Congress to contribute to the progress of Lagos State,” he added.

Lagos Relaunches Cash For Trash Program To Reward Residents For Recycling

The Lagos State Government has relaunched its “Cash for Trash” programme, inviting residents to earn money by turning household waste into cash while helping keep the city clean. Managed by the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) in partnership with the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA), the initiative encourages residents to bring recyclable materials such as plastics, cans, and paper to designated collection points in exchange for cash rewards. Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, highlighted the scheme in a statement and video shared on his X handle on Monday, noting that payments are made every Thursday to participants who deliver sorted recyclables. “Did you know your trash can turn into cash? Our #Lawma_gov Recycling Team is on the ground in Lagos Island, showing communities how to make it happen! We’re rewarding residents every Thursday for helping us keep Lagos clean and green. It’s a win for your wallet and a win for our city! Get involved and see the value in your waste,” Wahab said. The video shows LAWMA officials weighing bags of recyclables on portable scales and handing cash directly to residents. According to Wahab, the programme not only provides financial incentives but also helps reduce environmental pollution, promote recycling habits, and curb the effects of climate change in Lagos. Residents are encouraged to participate and turn waste into both income and a cleaner environment for the city.
