KWAM1 Writes Again to Ogun Governor, Demands Cancellation of Awujale Nomination Exercise

Popular Fuji musician Alhaji Wasiu Ayinde, widely known as KWAM1, has for the second time written to Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, claiming he was excluded from the ongoing selection of the next Awujale of Ijebu and urging the process to be annulled to prevent legal disputes. In a letter dated January 14, 2026, and sent through his lawyer Dr. Wahab Shittu, KWAM1 called on the governor to declare the Fusengbuwa Ruling House’s January 12 nomination meeting null and void, alleging it violated the Ogun State Obas and Chiefs Law 2021. He criticized what he described as the “imposition of a delegate system” and the exclusion of some eligible members from the meeting, calling it an arbitrary exercise that undermined the ruling house’s statutory duty to conduct a transparent nomination. Following the death of Oba Sikiru Adetona, it became the Fusengbuwa Ruling House’s turn to present candidates for the Awujale stool. KWAM1 said the Secretary of Ijebu Ode Local Government had directed the ruling house in a letter dated January 6, 2026, to convene a statutory meeting in line with customary laws and state chieftaincy regulations. However, KWAM1 alleged that at the January 12 meeting at Bisrod Hotel, he and other eligible members were prevented from entering by security personnel, including the police. Only selected “delegates” chosen by a faction of the ruling house were allowed in—a system he said was imposed without the agreement of other members. “The deliberate obstruction denied our client and other members the right to participate in the nomination,” the letter stated, adding that the exercise conducted without full participation is “procedurally defective, unlawful and null and void.” KWAM1 urged Governor Abiodun to annul the January 12 nomination and order a fresh, transparent, and inclusive process, ensuring all eligible members, including himself, can participate freely. Earlier, 95 contestants—94 princes and one princess from the Fusengbuwa Ruling House—were presented at the nomination meeting at Bisrod Hall, GRA, Ijebu Ode. The session was led by the Chairman, Otunba Abdulateef Owoyemi; his deputy, Prince Adedokun Ajidagba; and Vice Chairman Prof. Fassy Yusuf, with local government officials attending as observers. Owoyemi commended family members for conducting themselves peacefully, noting that the process aimed to select an Awujale who would lead Ijebuland to greater heights. KWAM1 has publicly declared his intention to contest, but the Fusengbuwa family insists he is not a member and therefore ineligible. He had previously approached the Ogun State High Court in Ijebu Ode seeking an interim injunction to halt the process, but the court dismissed the application. The musician later withdrew the suit without explanation. In a prior letter dated January 8, KWAM1 had also opposed the delegate system, arguing it disenfranchised members and violated both the chieftaincy declaration and Ogun State law. Prof. Yusuf dismissed the latest letter as “arrant nonsense,” while the state government has yet to comment.

Fusengbuwa Ruling House Dismisses KWAM1’s Protest Over Awujale Selection As “Arrant Nonsense”

The Fusengbuwa Ruling House of Ijebu land has dismissed claims by popular Fuji musician Alhaji Wasiu Ayinde, popularly known as KWAM1, that he is being unfairly excluded from the selection process for the next Awujale of Ijebu land. In a letter dated January 8, 2026, written by his lawyer Dr. Wahab Shittu (SAN), KWAM1 alleged that the ruling house, next in line to produce the new Awujale, issued directives that contradict the Chieftaincy Declaration and the Obas and Chiefs Law of Ogun State, claiming these measures were intended to prevent him from contesting for the throne. Reacting to the protest, the Vice Chairman of the Fusengbuwa Ruling House, Prof. Fassy Yusuf, described KWAM1’s claims as “arrant nonsense” and said they had no bearing on the selection process. Speaking on Sunday, Yusuf said: “It is a misguided letter. Either Wahab Shittu is being misled or Wasiu Ayinde is being misled. The issue raised about the screening is illogical. We have over 20,000 members in the ruling house. How does he expect us to manage the crowd? What is being talked about is illogical. The letter was directed to the government, so they will respond appropriately.” Yusuf confirmed that the family had scheduled Monday for the nomination meeting of aspirants for the vacant stool. The selection process for the new Awujale has attracted more than 60 aspirants, with KWAM1 publicly declaring his interest in the throne. The ruling house, however, maintains that the musician is not a member of their lineage and is therefore ineligible to participate. KWAM1 had earlier approached the Ogun State High Court in Ijebu-Ode seeking an interim injunction to halt the selection process, but the court dismissed the application for lack of merit. He later withdrew the suit through his lawyer, without giving a reason. Following intervention by the state government, the ruling house temporarily suspended the nomination process and has since restarted it to ensure proper procedure is followed.

No Financial Gains For KWAM 1 as Aviation Ambassador -FG

Federal Government has revealed that Fuji music maestro, Wasiu Ayinde Marshall popularly known as KWAM 1 D’Ultimate will perform his Aviation Security Ambassadorial role in Community Service capacity. The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Mr. Festus Keyamo made this clarification in a statement on his Twitter handler now X on Wednesday. The Minister, who had earlier in the day announced that the Fuji musician would serve as an ambassador in the aviation sector, took time to explain that the appointment will attract no financial remuniration. Keyamo wrote; “For further clarification, it is common practice all over the world that a repentant offender is made to preach publicly against the exact conduct from which he has repented. It is akin to Community Service. It is not paid for and it is voluntary service. “Unfortunately, in Nigeria, some would assume that once you hear the word ‘Ambassador’ it is a big position that comes with the perquisites of office. No, it is not. It is for free. It is not the first time it is happening in Nigeria and it will not be the last . Examples abound of such roles given to repentant persons by previous governments in Nigeria. “Whilst the Aviation agencies are considering using KWAM 1 for such a role, in my discussion last night with the Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON), they are also looking at the option of using Ms. Comfort Emmanson, who has also shown remorse, as their own Ambassador for good passenger conduct. It is left for the AON to work out those details since she has been actually released from prison custody today based on my earlier statement. “Whilst the usual suspects can continue to question our decisions on this issue, we firmly believe we have been fair to all.”

Pyrates Confraternity Harp on Equal Justice in Aviation Enforcement

The National Association of Seadogs aka Pyrates Confraternity has noted the decision announced in the early hours of Wednesday by the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, SAN, to withdraw the criminal complaint against Ms Comfort Emmanson, reduce sanctions in the case of Fuji musician Wasiu Ayinde Marshal (Kwam 1), and introduce reforms to improve the handling of disruptive passenger incidents. In a statement on Wednesday by the NAS Cap’n, Dr Joseph Oteri, the Association said the Minister’s intervention, which emphasised de-escalation, reconciliation, and capacity building for aviation security personnel, is a welcome step towards addressing public concerns about fairness and consistency in enforcement. “From the outset, NAS made it clear that our position was not to excuse or defend unruly behaviour, but to insist that all offenders, whether high-profile or unknown, must face the same lawful consequences for breaches of aviation safety protocols. “The Minister’s acknowledgement that wrongs were committed on all sides, and his move to review the cases holistically, aligns with our call for justice that is even-handed and corrective, not selective,” Oteri said. The Association, however, cautioned that the clemency granted in these cases should not be misconstrued as tolerance for misconduct in the aviation sector. “While compassion is a virtue, deterrence is a duty. Going forward, every passenger and airline staff must understand that safety rules are non-negotiable, and enforcement must be blind to status, influence, or public sympathy,” Oteri stressed. NAS also welcomed the Minister’s directive for a retreat to retrain aviation security personnel and review airline staff conduct, noting that improved crisis management, unbiased enforcement, and respect for human dignity during interventions will go a long way in restoring public trust in Nigeria’s aviation sector. The Association urged the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), and airline operators to follow through on the planned reforms, ensure transparent monitoring of enforcement, and intensify public awareness campaigns on passenger conduct and penalties. “Air travel is a shared responsibility. Passengers must respect safety protocols; airlines must treat customers with professionalism; and regulators must apply the law equally. If these principles are upheld, the unfortunate incidents of recent weeks will serve as a turning point for safer, fairer skies,” Oteri said.

FG Drops Complaints in KWAM 1 Comfort Emmanson Airport Misconduct Cases

The Federal Government has withdrawn criminal complaints in two high-profile cases of alleged unruly behaviour at Nigerian airports, citing stakeholder consultations and expressions of remorse from those involved. Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development said the decision was taken on compassionate grounds after reviewing incidents involving Ms. Comfort Emmanson and Fuji musician Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, popularly known as KWAM 1. In Ms. Emmanson’s case, Ibom Air agreed to withdraw its complaint over her alleged disruptive conduct aboard a flight on August 10, 2025. The minister confirmed she will be released from Kirikiri Prisons this week, following police formalities, while the Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON) will lift her lifetime flying ban. For KWAM 1, the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) will reduce his flight ban to one month and withdraw its police complaint. The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) will also engage him as an ambassador for airport security protocol. The Minister further revealed that the licences of ValueJet’s Captain Oluranti Ogoyi and First Officer Ivan Oloba — linked to the KWAM 1 incident — will be restored after a one-month suspension and mandatory professional reappraisal. Beyond the cases, all aviation agencies will hold a retreat next week to retrain security personnel on managing disruptive passengers and de-escalating conflicts, while airlines will review staff conduct towards travellers. “These decisions were taken purely on compassionate grounds,” the Minister stated. “Government will not pander to politically motivated sentiments when laws are broken. However, after these acts of clemency, safety and security in aviation remain paramount.”
