President Tinubu Orders Immediate Rescue Of 25 Abducted Kebbi Schoolgirls After Vice Principal Killed

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has ordered security and intelligence agencies to immediately rescue 25 female students abducted from Government Girls Comprehensive Senior Secondary School (GGCSSS) in Maga, Kebbi State. The attack occurred in the early hours of Sunday when gunmen stormed the school in Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area, killing Vice Principal Malam Hassan Makuku, who was reportedly shot while trying to protect the students. The assailants then abducted the schoolgirls, plunging the community into deep mourning. Kebbi Police spokesman, CSP Nafiu Abubakar, confirmed that security operatives have launched a manhunt for the attackers. Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, said President Tinubu has directed a high-level rescue operation. “President Tinubu has reiterated that protecting every Nigerian, especially schoolchildren, remains a solemn responsibility of the State,” he said. “Security and intelligence agencies have been issued clear directives to locate, rescue, and safely return the pupils, and to ensure that the perpetrators face justice.” The minister assured that the Federal Government would not relent until the girls are safely reunited with their families. He also stated that Nigeria is strengthening cooperation with the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), the African Union (AU), and the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) to secure its borders and dismantle terrorist networks. Furthermore, he revealed that the government is recalibrating the nation’s military, policing, and intelligence capabilities to prevent attacks and respond more rapidly to threats. Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, condemned the attack as unacceptable and called on all security agencies to act urgently and in coordination to secure the safe release of the abducted students. “President Tinubu has directed that the state’s security apparatus swing into immediate action to ensure the abducted students are released unharmed,” he said, urging residents to remain calm as authorities handle the situation. Local source Sulaiman Abdullahi reported that the attackers killed the school’s vice principal, and several unidentified bodies were left on the school premises. “They came in large numbers at night, fired sporadically, and forced their way into the school,” Abdullahi said. By Monday morning, air force jets were seen patrolling the area around 8 a.m., and the school was heavily secured by armed security personnel. CSP Nafiu Abubakar, spokesperson for the Kebbi Police Command, confirmed the attack, saying a tactical team had been deployed to carry out rescue operations for the abducted students. Kebbi Govt Approves N4.05 Billion To Rehabilitate Seven General Hospitals

The Kebbi State Executive Council has approved N4.05 billion for the rehabilitation of seven general hospitals across the state as part of efforts to strengthen healthcare delivery. State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Junaidu Marshall, announced the approval after the council’s meeting presided over by Governor Nasir Idris in Birnin Kebbi on Wednesday. Marshall listed the benefiting hospitals as Kambaza, Suru, Kamba, Dirin-Daji, Kangiwa, Koko, and Yauri. He added that Argungu General Hospital had already been rehabilitated and equipped with modern facilities. He noted that several other hospitals — including those in Zaga, Zuru, Bunza, Gulma, Bena, Jega, Shanga, and Sir Yahaya Memorial Hospital in Birnin Kebbi — had either been completed or were undergoing rehabilitation. According to him, the latest approval brings the total number of rehabilitated general hospitals under Governor Idris’s administration to 16, with plans to upgrade all 30 hospitals before the end of his tenure. The commissioner said the council also approved N570 million for the Kebbi Contributory Healthcare Management Agency (KECHEMA) to register 45,000 vulnerable persons under the State Social Register, ensuring affordable healthcare for the poor. Marshall added that under the World Bank IMPACT project, the state had provided counterpart funding for 73 primary healthcare centres, while another 42 centres would be rehabilitated to meet national standards. He reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to ensuring quality and accessible healthcare services across Kebbi State.

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has seized 125,000 litres of smuggled Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) worth ₦125 million in Kebbi.The Comptroller-General of NCS, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, announced the seizure while briefing journalists in Birnin Kebbi on Tuesday. Adeniyi was represented by NCS’s National Coordinator of Operation Whirlwind Team, ACG Husseini Ejibunu.He stated that the operation was carried out based on credible intelligence provided by the Customs Intelligence Unit (CIU).He explained that the Tsamiya area of Kebbi had been under surveillance for several days before the interception. He said the first truck with registration BC-7184RB, contained 766 jerry cans of 25 litres each and 18 drums of 200 litres each of pms. The second truck with registration numbee AT-2457RB, had 1,454 jerry cans of 25 litres each and several 200-litre drums of pms. “While the third truck with registration number BV-6240RB, contained 1,350 jerry cans of 25 litres each and 18 drums of 200 litres each of pms.” Adeniyi further said tha the team seized 805 jerry cans of 25 litres each at various smuggling flashpoints, including Dolekeina, Zaria Kalakala, Tunga Waterside, and Lolo Tsamiya. He provided a breakdown of the total seizure as, 4,375 jerry cans of pms (25 litres each, 54 drums of pms (200 litres each) with grand total of 125,000 litres of pms, with duty paid value of ₦125 million.
