Chelsea 2-0 Fulham: Controversial VAR Decision Disallows Josh King’s Goal as Hosts Win at Stamford Bridge

Stamford Bridge, London – Chelsea triumphed 2-0 over Fulham in a Premier League clash marred by a controversial VAR decision that saw Josh King’s first-half goal ruled out, sparking outrage from the Fulham camp. VAR Controversy Strikes Early The drama unfolded in the 21st minute when Josh King thought he had given Fulham the lead, curling a shot into the bottom corner after a skilful run into the box. However, referee Rob Jones was instructed by VAR official Michael Salisbury to review the goal due to an alleged foul by Rodrigo Muniz on Chelsea’s Trevoh Chalobah in the build-up. The incident in question occurred just moments before King’s strike, when Muniz appeared to step on Chalobah’s foot while shielding the ball. After reviewing the footage at the pitchside monitor, Jones disallowed the goal, citing Muniz’s “careless challenge” on Chalobah. Fulham manager Marco Silva was incensed by the decision, calling it “unbelievable” and claiming it was a harsh call. “I don’t know where else the attacker can put his foot. It should stand,” Silva said post-match. Despite the controversy, Chelsea responded well. Just before halftime, JoĂŁo Pedro headed in a brilliant cross to put the Blues ahead. Enzo Fernandez then sealed the victory in the second half, scoring from the penalty spot after Ryan Sessegnon was penalized for handling the ball in the area. Jamie Carragher, speaking on Sky Sports, labeled the VAR decision “shocking,” criticizing the intervention as “neither clear nor obvious” and suggesting that referee Jones should have trusted his initial call.

Fulham 1-1 Manchester United: Bruno Fernandes Misses Penalty Before Emile Smith Rowe Cancels Out Controversial Opener

Bruno Fernandes missed a crucial first-half penalty as Manchester United were held to a 1-1 draw at Fulham, with Emile Smith Rowe’s second-half equaliser cancelling out a contentious own goal that initially put the visitors ahead. United, under early pressure after a season-opening defeat to Arsenal, looked set to claim their first Premier League win of the season after Rodrigo Muniz inadvertently turned the ball into his own net just before the hour mark. But the goal sparked controversy, with United defender Leny Yoro appearing to push Fulham centre-back Calvin Bassey in the back as he rose for the header that deflected in off Muniz. “He is lucky to get away with that,” said Sky Sports’ Gary Neville on co-commentary, while Bassey told the broadcaster: “When the ref looks back on it, he will be disappointed.” Penalty Miss Adds to United’s Frustrations The drama had begun earlier in the first half when referee Chris Kavanagh, following a VAR review by Darren England, awarded United a penalty after Calvin Bassey was penalised for fouling Mason Mount at a corner. However, in the same phase of play, Luke Shaw was also seen bundling over Muniz — an incident that went unpunished. As Fernandes stepped up to take the spot kick, he was inadvertently bumped by Kavanagh, disrupting his preparation. The United captain proceeded to blaze the penalty over the bar, aiming for the top left corner. “It upset me because the referee didn’t apologise,” Fernandes said post-match. “That’s what triggered me in that moment, but that’s not an excuse for missing the penalty.” Smith Rowe Salvages Point for Fulham Fulham grew into the game after falling behind and were rewarded for their persistence when Emile Smith Rowe, recently signed from Arsenal, coolly slotted home an equaliser in the 76th minute after a flowing move down the left flank. The result leaves Manchester United winless in their opening two Premier League fixtures, with pressure beginning to mount on new head coach Ruben Amorim. Match Stats What’s Next?

EPL: Calvin Bassey seals Fulham victory over Forest

Fulham showed their aerial dominance as two headed goals helped them secure a 2-1 win over Premier League top-four contenders Nottingham Forest. Chris Wood netted his 18th goal of the season at Craven Cottage but it was not enough for Nuno Espirito Santo’s side as headers from Emile Smith Rowe and Calvin Bassey allowed Manchester City and Bournemouth to close the gap on Forest in third. It was a third successive victory in all competitions for Fulham following back-to-back wins against Newcastle in the league and Wigan in the FA Cup last Saturday. Marco Silva opted to start Adama Traore on the right and the decision was nearly repaid in the 12th minute when his looped cross to the head of Raul Jimenez went narrowly wide of the bottom left corner as Forest’s poor marking went unpunished. Shortly afterwards, the winger was involved in another move which this time saw Fulham rewarded for their quick start. A series of precise passing saw the hosts beat Forest’s press and, after Traore received the ball out wide, he used the inside of his weaker left foot to curve a cross to the surging Smith Rowe, who nodded past Matz Sels from inside the six-yard area. The opener, which was a team goal that saw goalkeeper Bernd Leno play a part in the build-up, highlighted the gulf in class between the two sides with Forest hardly getting a touch on the ball in the final third. Nuno’s men beat Brighton 7-0 in their last league match, but sloppy passes in the midfield and a willingness to sit deep with their back five invited more pressure as they struggled to replicate that performance. This meant Fulham continued to barrage the goal, with Sels forced to tip Jimenez’s creative outside-of-the-boot shot wide in the 30th minute.

Red-hot Iwobi targets more Premier League goals

Fulham star Alex Iwobi has expressed his willingness to score more goals for the Premier League side.  The Nigerian stated this after grabbing a brace against Brighton on Thursday.  “We wanted to get a win on the board after our last game against Spurs. There’s no better place to do it than at our place. I should be getting more goals but it was good to get them for the team. “We see the ability in training. This performance gives us a boost going into Arsenal, who are on a good run,”Fulham match-winner Iwobi said:  The midfielder continued his red-hot form by leading Fulham to victory and up to sixth in the Premier League with two goals in a 3-1 win over Brighton. The 28-year-old was deployed deeper than usual in central midfield yet pressed high to capitalise on a Brighton mistake in the fourth minute and then curled in a late third for the hosts to make it three goals and two assists in his last four appearances. The game was in the balance until Fulham substitute Andreas Pereira had his corner deflected into the Brighton net by their own midfielder Matt O’Riley. But Iwobi made sure he would steal the show, bending a perfect effort into the bottom-right corner with three minutes left to secure the points. Fulham boss Marco Silva said: “It was a big three points for us in a tough game. We started in the best way possible with the early goal but Brighton made it really difficult for us in the first half. They started with three at the back and it made it difficult for us to connect with the wide players. “Second half we were much better. We conceded in a moment we should prepare better for the long ball. It was a good shot from the edge of the box. Difficult game but a big three points for us. “We played with Alex Iwobi in a different position. He’s an offensive player and did an amazing job.”
