Ndidi’s Father Laid to Rest in Delta

Sunday Ndidi, the father of Super Eagles midfielder and captain, Wilfred Ndidi, has been laid to rest in his hometown of Umunede in Ika North East Local Government Area of Delta State. The retired Warrant Officer of the Nigerian Army died weeks ago in a motor accident, throwing the family, the state, and Nigeria’s football community into mourning. The burial drew relatives, friends, sympathisers, and officials of the Nigeria Football Federation who came to pay their last respects. In an emotional tribute, Wilfred Ndidi described his late father as a disciplinarian and strong supporter whose guidance laid the foundation for his career and life values. “Rest on Eraq. “And for the person wey ‘hit and run’ I find peace in your heart,” the Besiktas of Turkey star wrote on his official Instagram field. President of the NFF, Ibrahim Musa Gusau, who was represented, praised the deceased for his meritorious service to Nigeria and for raising a son who continues to bring honour to the country through football. Prayers were offered for the peaceful repose of his soul and for strength for the family he left behind.

The Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Abaniwonda Olufemi, has commened the courage of the police operatives, hunters, vigilante and Anti cult volunteers following the rescue of kidnap victims in the state. The State Command stated this in a press statement issued on Wednesday. According to the statement posted on the Command’s Twitter handle; “During a preliminary investigation, a recently rescued kidnapped victim identified one of the deceased suspects as a leader of the gang that kidnapped him. “During the gun duel, four of the suspected kidnappers were shot and later gave up the ghost while others escaped with gunshot injuries.”

Delta Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori Decamps to APC

Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori has reportedly dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). He was said to have defected alongside his commissioners. This was revealed after a high-level, closed-door meeting at the Government House in Asaba on Wednesday evening. The Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Festus Ahon, said the decision came after “wide consultations with political stakeholders and in the interest of Delta’s long-term development.” Oborevwori was elected in 2023 under the PDP platform. Senator James Manager, who addressed the press after a meeting of the PDP stakeholders in Government House, said a formal declaration would be made on Monday. He said that the governor’s defection to the ruling party was in the interest and the overall development of Delta state. Mr Manager said the entire PDP structure in the state had collapsed to the APC. Present at the briefing were Governor Oborevwori, the immediate past governor Ifeanyi Okowa, Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Emomotimi Guor and other PDP stalwarts.
