Eze Fires Arsenal To 1–0 Victory Over Crystal Palace As Gunners Go Four Points Clear

Arsenal edged Crystal Palace 1–0 at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday, October 26, 2025, in a hard-fought Premier League encounter that tested their patience and composure. The decisive moment came in the 39th minute when Eberechi Eze, facing his former club, struck a composed volley into the bottom-right corner after a well-delivered free-kick routine. Declan Rice’s curling cross was nodded down by Gabriel Magalhães, allowing Eze to pounce and give Arsenal the breakthrough they had been pushing for all half. Before the goal, Arsenal had dominated possession but struggled to find a cutting edge against Palace’s deep defensive setup. The Emirates crowd erupted when Eze’s finish found the net, giving the hosts the momentum heading into halftime. The second half saw Crystal Palace attempt to claw their way back into the game, but Arsenal’s backline — marshaled by William Saliba and Gabriel — stood firm. Palace’s best chance came from a swift counterattack, but goalkeeper David Raya reacted sharply to keep his clean sheet intact. Bukayo Saka nearly doubled Arsenal’s lead late on, only for Marc Guehi to clear his effort off the line in one of the game’s most dramatic moments. Despite pressing for a second goal, Arsenal had to settle for the lone strike that proved enough to seal the win. The victory extended Arsenal’s unbeaten run in the Premier League to six matches and ten in all competitions, moving them four points clear at the top of the table. For Eze, the night carried special significance as he scored against the club where he made his name. His goal — his first in Arsenal colors — underscored the growing influence he’s beginning to have under Mikel Arteta. While the Gunners’ attacking fluency still lacked its usual sharpness, their defensive solidity and control once again showed why they’re serious title contenders this season.

Grealish Scores First Everton Goal As Toffees End Palace’s 19-Match Unbeaten Run

Jack Grealish scored his first goal for Everton to complete a thrilling 2-1 comeback and end Crystal Palace’s remarkable 19-match unbeaten run. Palace took the lead in the 37th minute through Daniel Munoz, but Everton equalized early in the second half when Iliman Ndiaye converted from the penalty spot. Jordan Pickford, making his 300th Premier League appearance, kept Everton alive with several crucial saves as Tyrick Mitchell struck the bar and Jean-Philippe Mateta saw his effort cleared off the line. Ismaila Sarr also came close, but Palace’s wastefulness in front of goal proved costly. As the game approached stoppage time, Ndiaye’s cross found Beto, whose header was parried by Dean Henderson. Munoz’s attempted clearance then deflected off Grealish and into the net to spark wild celebrations at the Hill Dickinson Stadium. The victory snapped Everton’s four-game winless run and ensured they remain unbeaten at their new home, while Palace suffered their first defeat in any competition since April. Everton’s late strike marked their latest home Premier League winning goal since March 2022, when they beat Newcastle United in stoppage time. Grealish, who has made an impressive start to life on Merseyside, won more fouls (four) and played the third-most passes in the final third (18) of any player on the pitch. Remarkably, each of Everton’s last three Premier League home wins after conceding first have come against Palace — 3-2 in May 2022, 2-1 in September 2024, and now 2-1 again.

Showmax Premier League: No Ceiling for the Eagles’ Maxence Lacroix on Faith, Family, and Why Palace Can Dream Big!

Since arriving at Selhurst Park, Maxence Lacroix has become an integral part of a squad that has transformed into one of the most formidable in the country, lifting the FA Cup and Community Shield in their first full season together.   The resurgence began when manager Oliver Glasner convinced him to join, a decision based on mutual trust.   “I was proud first because at the time I was not at my best and he was giving me his trust, and I said, ‘OK, let’s do it’,” Lacroix recalls of the call from the gaffer, who previously managed him at Wolfsburg.   “I think this guy knows what he’s doing, and he knows how to take the best from each player.”   That trust has paid massive dividends.   Palace are currently the only unbeaten team in the Premier League this season, a feat Lacroix attributes not to luck, but to the collective mindset.   “It’s not only luck, it’s because we work hard, we believe… we deserve everything we have.”   He describes the Palace environment as a “big family,” where everyone fights for one another.   That sentiment extends to the supporters, with whom Lacroix has forged an instant, unbreakable bond, even paying for a round of drinks for an entire row of fans on his shirt number, five, at a recent home game.   “When you have good fans, you have to give them back also what they give you, because this is a relationship,” he said.   The noise inside Selhurst Park is unlike anything he’s experienced.   “When they are happy… when we scored the last goal against Liverpool this weekend, it was incredible. I was just looking. All people were really happy, some people crying, so it was unbelievable.”   Despite the record-breaking unbeaten run, the defender asserts that the team’s ambition has no limits.   “We are happy about that, but it’s not enough. We want more… This is not our ceiling, I’m sure about that. We can dream about something big.”   The Premier League challenge   Playing in England’s top-flight was always the ultimate goal for Lacroix, who regards the league as the peak of the sport.   “To be honest, when I was young, young, young, I didn’t really watch football… But when I started to grow up, I understood that the Premier League is the best in the world,” he explains.   The difference in intensity from his time in the Bundesliga was immediate and striking, particularly the unforgiving nature of the play.   While his physicality, pace, and towering frame (six-foot-four-and-a-half) are assets, they are constantly tested by elite attackers.   “I played against (Erling) Haaland when he was at Dortmund, but at [Manchester] City I see another guy. Because they are surgical here, this is it. You have to be 90 plus minutes concentrated,” Lacroix said.   He highlights the fine margin for error: “I think the difference here is that if you make a mistake, it’s finished for you. But in the Bundesliga you can maybe have a second chance… but here, no chance. You have to be focused… it’s a battle.”   Faith, family, and heritage   For Lacroix, his professional success is deeply rooted in his personal life and faith. He speaks candidly about his faith, which became his priority just a few years ago.   “I really met God like three years ago… and I started to understand that it was the way I want to live my life and I changed completely. This is the priority in my life… and it helped me every single day to accomplish everything I’ve done already.”   His friend and teammate Jean-Philippe Mateta affectionately calls him the “pastor of Palace,” a title he humbly downplays.   “I’m not a pastor but I’m just a guy… I would say more a disciple… I try my best to show it and show that it’s possible to play football and to glorify the name of Jesus.”   His family has been his rock, particularly his mother, a doctor who also became his nutritionist.   “My mother took care of me… she gave everything so that I can be here with you. She helped me to be professional and since I was young, she was always with me.”   Lacroix also proudly represents his roots in the French Caribbean, noting the pride of his father’s family in Guadeloupe. “I’m happy also to represent this side of my life.”   The journey from Ajat: early days   Lacroix’s beginnings were far removed from the bright lights of London and the Premier League. He hails from Ajat in rural France, a tiny community of just 300 people.   “I think it’s a big step… a really big step,” he says of the transition to a global city. “I like the contrast… and when I go back there, I’m also really happy to see my family and the 299 people in my village.”   His love for football began early, often playing alone with a ball or on the pitch after watching his amateur goalkeeper father on Sundays. Initially, his dreams lay elsewhere.   “As a boy, I always wanted to be a vet because where I live, it was like a farm,” he reveals. “But when I grew up, when I started to be older, I said maybe to be a lawyer or something like that could be nice for me.”   Football took hold, and his career started on an unexpected path – as a goalkeeper, then a striker, before finally settling in the number six role.   His final transformation into the powerful centre-back we see today came at Sochaux under coach Eric Hély.   It was his move to Sochaux that solidified his belief in a professional career.   “When you come from a small village you don’t think that you can be a football player… But when you see… you pass steps and steps… you say, ‘OK,…

Crystal Palace End Liverpool's Unbeaten Start to the Season

Crystal Palace End Liverpool’s Unbeaten Start to the Season

Crystal Palace stunned Liverpool to claim a dramatic 2-1 victory at Selhurst Park, ending the Reds’ unbeaten start to the Premier League season and climbing to second place in the table. Eddie Nketiah scored a dramatic stoppage-time winner, firing home after a long throw-in caused chaos in the Liverpool box. His goal came just minutes after Federico Chiesa had seemingly rescued a point for the visitors with an 87th-minute equaliser. The build-up to Chiesa’s goal was not without controversy, with replays suggesting Mohamed Salah may have handled the ball. Despite protests from Palace players, the goal stood, setting up a frantic finale. Ismaila Sarr had earlier opened the scoring for Palace, smashing the ball past Alisson after Liverpool failed to deal with a corner. The 27-year-old was quick to react as the ball fell to him in the box, delivering a powerful finish. The win propels Palace into second place in the Premier League standings, just behind the leaders. It’s a massive result for Oliver Glasner’s side, who continue to defy expectations this season with disciplined performances and clinical finishing. For Liverpool and new head coach Arne Slot, the result comes as a blow to their strong early-season momentum. Slot now faces the task of rallying his side quickly ahead of a congested fixture schedule. Later today, Tottenham Hotspur will look to close the gap at the top when they host Wolverhampton Wanderers, while Arsenal face a tricky trip to Newcastle United on Sunday. The Gunners have lost on their last three visits to St James’ Park. It’s shaping up to be one of the most unpredictable Premier League title races in years — and Palace have officially entered the conversation.

Franco Umeh in Talks with League One

League One Exeter City have held exploratory talks over a loan move for Crystal Palace attacker Franco Umeh, the News Shopper understands. The 20-year-old has been included in Palace’s senior squad 13 times but has yet to make his first-team debut. He joined from Irish side Cork City in February 2023 when Palace triggered his €75,000 release clause. Umeh trained with the first team last season, where Palace boss Oliver Glasner briefly considered him as an option at left wing-back before he reverted to his natural attacking role. The Republic of Ireland youth international made 15 appearances for Palace’s Under-21 side last term, contributing five goals and an assist. Comfortable on either flank, the wide player is currently recovering from a hamstring issue sustained in pre-season. Palace are keen to secure an EFL loan for Umeh in the final 13 days of the transfer window. Exeter, who sit 15th in the third tier, are interested in adding the attacker to their forward ranks and have held preliminary discussions over a move. Umeh would become the second Palace player to join the Grecians this summer, following goalkeeper Joe Whitworth’s return to Devon for a second successive season.

Arsenal Holds Eberechi Eze Transfer Talks

Arsenal could scupper Tottenham’s plans with a surprise move for Eberechi Eze after ‘holding talks’ with the England star’s representatives amid their search for quality attacking signings. The Gunners are in the market for a quality No.9 and a left-sided forward to bolster their title hopes next season. And it seems as though their search for the latter could lead them into a surprise battle with their arch-rivals for Eze, who is the latest Crystal Palace star to be linked with a blockbuster summer move. Mirror Football revealed last week that Eze was on Spurs’ shortlist with a deal for Bryan Mbeumo now looking unlikely. And amid claims that the 26-year-old is also on Arsenal’s radar as they finalise their own shortlist of attacking targets, The Sun are reporting that talks between Andrea Berta and Eze’s representatives have already taking place. It’s outlined that Arsenal hold a strong interest in Eze, who has a £68million buy-out clause in his Eagles contract. Given he would be available for that price, Eze represents a cheaper alternative to Real Madrid’s Brazilian forward, Rodrygo, who the Gunners have also been courting this summer.

Tottenham Lines Up £68m Move for Eberechi Eze

Tottenham are turning their attention to Crystal Palace midfielder Eberechi Eze as Thomas Frank looks to make a statement signing this summer. Eze, who is believed to have a £68m release clause, guided Crystal Palace to the first piece of major silverware in the club’s history last season, scoring in the FA Cup final as Oliver Glasner’s side upset Manchester City at Wembley in May. Eze’s release clause has attracted a number of potential suitors, including long-term admirers Tottenham, to the 26-year-old’s availability, and the lure of Champions League football at Spurs could be enough to convince Eze to join, with Palace still unsure whether they’ll be granted access to the Europa League following their FA Cup win. Tottenham looked at Eze last summer but never submitted a firm bid according to Palace chairman Steve Parish. They now, however, look set to return for the England international, with Frank keen to make a statement of intent after arriving from Brentford.
