Raheem Sterling Leaves Chelsea By Mutual Consent

Raheem Sterling left Chelsea by mutual consent on Wednesday, bringing a premature end to his time at the Premier League club three-and-a-half years after a $56.5 million move that failed to live up to expectations. Sterling, whose contract was due to expire in 2027, joined from Manchester City in 2022 as a serial title-winner but ended up an outcast – last playing for the club in May 2024. “We thank Raheem for the contribution he made while a Chelsea player and wish him well for the next stage in his career,” Chelsea said in a brief statement. The 31-year-old Sterling won 10 major trophies with City, including five Premier League titles. He was expected to help lead Chelsea to trophies but made only 45 league starts. He scored 14 goals and has not been involved for Chelsea this term. Sterling spent last season on loan at Arsenal but scored only one goal for Mikel Arteta’s team before returning to Stamford Bridge at the end of the campaign. Sterling began his career at Queens Park Rangers and went on to join Liverpool before a move to City in 2015. He was also part of England’s squad that both reached the semifinals of the 2018 World Cup and came runner-up in the European Championship in 2021.

Breaking: Chelsea Appoints Rosenior As Head Coach

Chelsea have confirmed the appointment of Liam Rosenior as their new head coach on a six-and-a-half-year deal.   Rosenior arrives from Strasbourg on a contract that runs until 2032.   He said: “I am extremely humbled and honoured to be appointed head coach of Chelsea Football Club. This is a club with a unique spirit and a proud history of winning trophies.”   Rosenior will take charge of Saturday’s FA Cup third-round tie at Championship side Charlton Athletic.   Callum McFarlane, who presided over a 1-1 draw at Manchester City on Sunday, will oversee Wednesday’s Premier League game at Fulham.   Rosenior had confirmed his imminent move to Stamford Bridge at a Strasbourg press conference on Tuesday morning – and said he was “ready” for the job.   The ex-Hull boss said: “I was given permission to speak to one of the biggest clubs in the world.   “It was an honour to be associated with a club like that and, now, it looks like I will be the next manager of that football club,” the 41-year-old said.   Rosenior played for Bristol City, Fulham, Reading, Hull City and Brighton during a 16-year playing career.   After hanging up his boots in 2018, Rosenior almost guided Hull to the Championship play-offs in 2024 and then became head coach of Strasbourg, who are owned by Chelsea’s parent company BlueCo. The French club finished seventh in Ligue 1 last season.   Despite his lack of experience at a top-level club – and having managed barely 100 matches altogether – the incoming head coach insisted his new role was not too big a job to take on.   “I am so excited for the future, my whole life has worked to be a coach and now to be presented this opportunity at a world-class football (club) is something I have always dreamed of,” he said.   “With that is a mixed emotion of sadness of what I am leaving behind. This is the last day I wake up as Strasbourg manager.   “I hope the fans here can understand that. I am looking forward to the challenge, if I didn’t think I was ready, I wouldn’t have accepted it.   “The reality is Strasbourg is not on the level as Chelsea. There are certain clubs you just cannot just turn down. I hope the fans can see that.”

Chelsea Signs Garnacho From Man U

Chelsea have officially signed Alejandro Garnacho from Manchester United for £40million. The fee makes Garnacho the most expensive academy graduate sale in United’s history, eclipsing the £24.5m received for David Beckham in 2003. The 21-year-old winger has agreed a seven-year contract with the Blues after passing a medical on Friday. United have inserted a 10 per cent sell-on clause in the sale agreement. Garnacho was in attendance at Stamford Bridge as Enzo Maresca’s side eased past Fulham to win 2-0 on Saturday afternoon. Now, the Argentina international will join his new team-mates as the international break falls upon us. His first opportunity to suit up in his new colours will come on September 13 when Chelsea travel to west London rivals Brentford. Upon signing, Garnacho said: ‘It’s an incredible moment for my family and I to join this great club. I can’t wait to get started. ‘I watched the Club World Cup and to join the world champions is special – we’re the best team in the world! ‘It’s amazing to be here and I’m very happy.’ Garnacho joined United’s youth set-up from Atletico Madrid in October 2020 and went on to make 144 senior appearances, scoring 26 goals and providing 22 assists. He lifted the Carabao Cup in 2023 and the FA Cup in 2024, but fell out of favour under Ruben Amorim towards the end of last season. Amorim told Garnacho at the end of the campaign that he was free to find a new club. The winger did not feature in pre-season and trained separately as part of the so-called ‘bomb squad’. Garnacho also publicly expressed his frustration after being introduced only late in United’s Europa League final defeat to Tottenham in May, a moment which appeared to accelerate his exit. Chelsea beat off competition to secure his signature after weeks of haggling over the fee. The Blues initially offered £25m, but talks eventually settled at £40m plus the sell-on percentage. Garnacho is expected to compete with fellow summer signing Jamie Gittens for a place on the left wing in Enzo Maresca’s squad. He joins a raft of new arrivals at Stamford Bridge, including Liam Delap, Joao Pedro, Jorrel Hato and Brazilian teenager Estevao. Garnacho is Chelsea’s 51st signing since the Todd Boehly era began in 2022.

Tosin Adarabioyo Set to Return to Training This Week

Tosin Adarabioyo is expected to return to Chelsea training this week as he looks to make the matchday squad for the trip to West Ham on Friday. The Blues drew 0-0 with Crystal Palace on opening weekend, but were without Tosin after he picked up a knock in training. Enzo Maresca’s side are already without Levi Colwill after he suffered an ACL injury in pre-season, and were not keen to take any risks with Tosin. However, The Standard reports that the issue is ‘very minor’ and that Tosin will likely return to training this week. The 27-year-old remains a doubt for Friday’s fixture, though, and Maresca may well choose to stick with the pairing of Trevor Chalobah and Josh Acheampong who kept a clean sheet against Palace. Speaking about Tosin’s injury after the draw with Palace, Maresca said: ‘He had a physical problem. We don’t know for how long [he will be out].’ Tosin was expected to play an increased role this season, after Maresca hinted that the 27-year-old was the only centre-back capable of emulating Colwill’s play style. ‘When we build, we build with Levi in the middle,’ Maresca said. ‘Last year, we played 64 games and we played 64 games with Levi and Tosin [Adarabioyo]. Now Levi is out, the only one who can do that job well is Tosin. ‘We have [Jorrel] Hato but he never played as the guy in the middle last season. It is not about central defenders. Yes he is a central defender, but what does he have to do? Can he do that? It is different.’ Elsewhere, Wesley Fofana could also be in line for his first minutes since March on Friday after the Frenchman was an unused substitute last time out. ‘Wes was on the bench but was just on the bench to be with us and the plan was for him not to get any minutes,’ Maresca added. ‘Now hopefully for the next one, we can use Wes for some minutes.’

Cole Palmer rang up two goals and one assist in a sensational first half and Chelsea toppled Paris Saint-Germain 3-0 to win the FIFA Club World Cup on Sunday. Palmer scored in the 22nd and 30th minutes and Joao Pedro tacked on the third goal right before halftime, capitalizing on Palmer’s fine touch into the box. Robert Sanchez, meanwhile, saved six shots in his best showing of the tournament. Chelsea, who won the 2021 Club World Cup that featured only eight teams, battled past Portugal’s Benfica and Brazilian sides Palmeiras and Fluminense in the knockouts to face Paris Saint-Germain — six weeks removed from their first UEFA Champions League trophy. PSG’s Gianluigi Donnarumma made two saves on five shots on goal. The European champions had allowed just one goal in their first six matches of the Cup. The frustrated Parisians went down to 10 men in the 85th minute when Joao Neves pulled Chelsea defender Marc Cucurella by the hair, was caught on video review and shown red. Altercations spilled past the final whistle, and PSG coach Luis Enrique appeared to grab at Pedro’s neck while he and Donnarumma confronted Chelsea players. Cucurella made a crucial stop to keep the game scoreless in the 16th minute. Fabian Ruiz made a great pass across the box to Desire Doue, who could have shot it but instead tried a centering pass to a teammate that Cucurella intercepted. Six minutes later, Palmer — whose first attempt barely missed wide left in the eighth — got the scoring started. Malo Gusto picked up a wayward header from PSG’s Nuno Mendes and ran into the box. After a fancy dribble to create space, his shot was blocked right back to his feet, so he fed Palmer for a left-footer to the bottom left corner. Levi Colwill earned the assist on the second goal for his long ball downfield to Palmer. From there, Palmer calmly dribbled toward the center of the 18-yard line and fired the same low, left-footer for an identical goal. In the 43rd, Palmer tapped a pass between two defenders for Pedro, who popped his shot over a sprawling Donnarumma’s right shoulder. Sanchez dove to meet Neves’ stoppage-time header just before the goal line. His heroics continued in the second half, as he swatted away a shot by Ousmane Dembele from close range.

Arsenal Begins Talks with Chelsea over Madueke Deal

Arsenal has made contact with Chelsea over the potential signing of winger Noni Madueke. The Gunners were reported to have agreed personal terms with the England international over a five-year contract over the weekend. Arsenal have now contacted Chelsea ahead of attempting to agree a fee for the 23-year-old. Madueke, 23, was a first-team regular at Chelsea under Enzo Maresca last season. He featured in 32 of Chelsea’s 38 Premier League games – starting in 27 of them – and provided seven goals and three assists. Mail Sport reported on Tuesday that a winger has been targeted by Arsenal this summer, with Madueke high on their list. Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca had appeared open to Madueke potentially leaving the club when questioned about his future at the Club World Cup on the weekend. ‘Noni has been very important for us. But my message to the players and to the club is that I want just players that are happy to be with us,’ Maresca said. ‘The ones that are not happy, they are free to go. Chelsea Signs Delap From Ipswich Town

Chelsea have completed the signing of striker Liam Delap from Ipswich Town. The 22-year-old arrives at Stamford Bridge on a six-year deal following an impressive Premier League campaign in which he finished as Ipswich’s top scorer with 12 goals and two assists from 37 appearances. “I understand the stature of this club and can see the trajectory it is on with these players and the head coach,” Delap told Chelsea’s official website. “It’s going to be an incredible place for me to develop, and I hope to achieve amazing things here and help the club win more trophies.” Delap will add to the existing forward options available to head coach Enzo Maresca, including Nicolas Jackson, Marc Guiu, Christopher Nkunku and Armando Broja. The transfer means Delap is reunited with Maresca, who worked with him at Manchester City’s Academy. Ahead of Chelsea’s 2-0 defeat at Ipswich in December 2024, Maresca praised the young striker, describing him as a “fantastic player.” “We spent one year [at City] and he scored 24 goals,” Maresca added. “He’s working hard off the ball. On the ball, he understands the game. He can be an important player for England.” Delap will also reconnect with two former team-mates from City’s Academy, Romeo Lavia and Cole Palmer. Delap joined Derby County’s Academy at the age of six and he spent a decade there before moving to Man City in 2019. He signed for Ipswich from City in July 2024, quickly establishing himself as a key player in their first season back in the Premier League. One of Delap’s standout performances came against Chelsea at Portman Road where, he scored a penalty and provided an assist for Omari Hutchinson in what proved to be Ipswich’s only home league win of the campaign. Internationally, Delap has represented England at Under-21 level, scoring on his debut in a 3–0 win over Luxembourg in a 2025 UEFA European U21 Championship qualifier. He also remains eligible to play for the Republic of Ireland at senior level.

Chelsea to Debut New Shirt Against Djurgarden

Chelsea have announced a new front-of-shirt sponsorship deal. The Blues have played without a shirt sponsor this season but Dubai-based property development company DAMAC Properties will be on their shirts for the rest of the campaign, starting with Thursday’s Conference League semi-final first leg against Djurgarden in Sweden. But the deal only covers Chelsea’s final four Premier League games, their two legs with Djurgarden and potentially the Conference League final if they get there. The deal does not cover the Club World Cup this summer. Chelsea remain in talks with other companies over shirt sponsorship for the Club World Cup and beyond. The 2024-25 campaign is the second consecutive year that Chelsea have not had a front-of-shirt sponsor for the full season. As part of the new deal, DAMAC will oversee the development Chelsea-branded residences in Dubai. Chelsea COO Jason Gannon said: “DAMAC are world renowned in building luxury properties, and we are thrilled to be working with the industry leader to bring to market a first-of-its-kind branded Chelsea FC residence in Dubai. “With the club located in the heart of London, the collaboration will bring Chelsea to life in Dubai, support our continued growth on the global stage.
