Bola Oyebamiji Emerges APC Consensus Candidate In Osun Governorship Race
Bola Oyebamiji, the immediate past Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority, has clinched the All Progressives Congress ticket for the Osun State governorship race after emerging as the party’s consensus choice. His adoption was concluded at the APC primary held in Osogbo, where fellow aspirants Kunle Adegoke (SAN) and Senator Babajide Omoworare formally proposed his candidacy. The motion was presented to party members by the chairman of the APC governorship primary committee and Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, and was unanimously endorsed through a voice vote. Announcing the outcome, Okpebholo declared, “By the power conferred on me, I present to you Bola Oyebamiji, as the governorship candidate of our party.” The primary commenced with the arrival of the committee led by Okpebholo, who had earlier indicated that the party’s flagbearer would be chosen by affirmation. He was joined by the committee’s co-chairman, Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, alongside Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule, Dr Obafemi Hamzat representing the Lagos State Governor, and former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello. Ahead of the exercise, the party confirmed 1,660 delegates eligible to participate in the primary. Developments leading to the event also pointed to an agreement among the seven APC governorship aspirants in the state to support a consensus candidate following a late-night meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the State House in Abuja. Former APC National Secretary, Senator Iyiola Omisore, later publicly endorsed the arrangement. Speaking on TVC News’ Politics Tonight, Omisore said he aligned with the party’s decision after consultations with President Tinubu, despite being among the aspirants earlier disqualified by the APC Screening Committee over alleged violations of party and electoral guidelines.
