Arsenal’s Madueke Out for Six to Eight Weeks

Arsenal’s Noni Madueke to miss about six to eight weeks with the knee injury sustained in the 1-1 draw with Manchester City on Sunday. However, the 23-year-old England international is not believed to have suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury. The summer signing from Chelsea was substituted at half-time of the Premier League match with City and has been undergoing tests to discover the severity of the problem. Sources are indicating medics are waiting for the swelling to subside before making a definitive diagnosis on the injury, but it is understood that Madueke will be sidelined for a minimum of six weeks, though that timescale is thought to be the best-case scenario. The news will arrive as major blow to Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta and England head coach Thomas Tuchel given Madueke’s promising start to the season. If the initial prognosis is confirmed, Madueke will not return to action until November at the earliest, ruling him out of a clutch of key domestic and European games for the Gunners. The attacker is set to miss England’s forthcoming games against Wales and Latvia, while also making him a doubt for World Cup qualifiers against Serbia and Albania in mid-November. Arsenal face Sunderland on 8 November in the Premier League. If Madueke is unavailable for that games and the international break, he could return for the north London derby versus Tottenham on 23 November.

Martinelli’s Late Goal Draw Arsenal to Stay Five Points Behind Liverpool, Man City Remain Ninth

Copy and paste from Tuesday night. Arsenal struggle to create much all game and then Martinelli saves them off the bench. “But was Mikel Arteta’s line-up just too pragmatic, especially after seeing City drop so deep?  “Merino and Rice once again failed to produce much in midfield. Could Eze – brought on at half-time – have started that game? And what would have happened had he did?” Rice: Martinelli always delivers big moments Arsenal midfielder Declan Rice:  “Since I’ve come to the club, even before I’ve come – he’s always delivered in big moments. The amount of times he’s scoring in big games for us.  “A lot of players can talk if they get put on the bench but every time he comes in, he shows his desire.  “The run and finish – it’s unbelievable at that stage of the game. To have that composure, he really deserves it.” For the second time in five days, Arsenal’s substitutes – or finishers, as Mikel Arteta likes to call them – make the decisive impact. The Gunners were staring at defeat but a huge goal from Martinelli ensures the gap to Liverpool is five points, not six. It’s a hugely frustrating end for City, who defended brilliantly for 93 minutes. Guardiola shrugs his shoulders – he decided 25-30 minutes out from the end of the game how he was going to win it and he got so close. “But credit to Arsenal, Eze and Martinelli for that bit of brilliance at the end, but those blue shirts will be disappointed. “It was a bit of a slugfest of a game, a real struggle that will not help either of them and Liverpool maybe the winners.”

Liverpool vs Arsenal: Premier League Clash Set for Early-Season Title Implications

Anfield is set to host one of the Premier League’s marquee fixtures on Sunday, as defending champions Liverpool face perennial challengers Arsenal in a match that could shape the early title race. Both sides come into the clash with perfect records from their opening fixtures, but arrive via contrasting paths. While Liverpool have battled through dramatic late winners, Arsenal have remained defensively solid, yet are now dealing with a mounting injury list. Under new manager Arne Slot, Liverpool have shown early signs of grit and attacking versatility. The Reds opened the season with a 4-2 win over Bournemouth and followed it up with a last-gasp 3-2 victory at Newcastle, where 16-year-old Rio Ngumoha netted the winner from a Mohamed Salah assist in stoppage time. New signing Hugo Ekitike has impressed with two goals and an assist in as many matches, helping reduce the team’s reliance on Salah. Slot praised Ekitike’s impact both in scoring and build-up play:“He’s been a big influence already — not just finishing, but starting and linking attacks.” The club’s pursuit of Newcastle striker Alexander Isak continues, with a second bid reportedly being prepared. Arsenal began the season with a narrow 1-0 win at Old Trafford and followed that with a dominant 5-0 home victory over Leeds United. However, Mikel Arteta’s squad now faces a major test of depth after injuries to key players. Bukayo Saka (hamstring), Kai Havertz (knee surgery), and Martin Odegaard (shoulder) are all doubts or confirmed absentees for Sunday.“It’s the start of the season and we’ve lost three of our main players,” said Arteta. “That’s why you need a big squad to cope and sustain the level.” Summer signings Viktor Gyokeres and Noni Madueke are expected to step up, while Eberechi Eze could make his Arsenal debut following his high-profile transfer from Crystal Palace. This will be the 245th meeting between the two clubs. Liverpool lead the all-time series with 94 wins, compared to 81 for Arsenal. Arsenal are winless at Anfield in the Premier League since 2012, though their last three visits ended in draws. Arteta acknowledged the challenge of ending that drought:“The favourite is always the reigning champion. Someone has to take the crown from them — that’s what we’re trying to do.” Team NewsLiverpool have no new injury concerns. Conor Bradley returned from injury as a substitute last match. Alexis Mac Allister is available after missing the Newcastle game. Virgil van Dijk is fit despite a heavy tackle last week. For Arsenal, Saka is out for several weeks with a hamstring issue. Havertz is sidelined after undergoing minor knee surgery. Odegaard is a doubt and will undergo a late fitness test. Christian Norgaard and Ben White are also being assessed.

Saka Out for ‘Couple of Weeks’

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta says it is a “concern” Bukayo Saka has suffered two hamstring injuries in eight months. The winger missed three-and-a-half months of last season following surgery on his right hamstring in December. Saka has now been sidelined for “a couple of weeks” with another problem – this time in his left leg – during his side’s win against Leeds on Saturday. Arteta confirmed the 23-year-old will not require surgery as it is “not as bad as the previous one”. “He felt something, so he will be out for a couple of weeks,” said the Gunners boss on Friday. “But it is obviously a concern, a big one, especially when we talk about a sprinter and a player that gets into that zone very often in a football match, who needs that burst, that change of rhythm of pace to be as threatening as possible.” On Thursday, the club confirmed Germany forward Kai Havertz will undergo knee surgery, but will not be out for a significant amount of time. Arteta said it was “very unfortunate” for Havertz, but surgery was “the right thing to do”. “The doctors advised and he was very convinced at the end that it was the quickest and the best way to resolve that issue,” he explained. Arsenal’s injury troubles mean they are currently without Saka, Havertz, midfielders Martin Odegaard and Christian Norgaard, defender Ben White and forward Gabriel Jesus. The Gunners, who have finished runners-up in each of the past three Premier League seasons, visit defending champions Liverpool on Sunday (4:30pm), with both sides having started the new campaign with successive wins.

Nwaneri: Arsenal Will Keep Working Hard

Ethan Nwaneri played his part in Arsenal’s 1-0 win over AC Milan in the Singapore National Stadium on Wednesday, and afterwards said he is excited for what is to come this season. Three of our summer signings all made their first outings for the side, while several academy players were also involved. After the game Ethan said: “I think it’s a good start from the team, we’re ready to keep pushing and training and working hard. “It was hard, it was tough, but you need to do it in pre-season to get fit, so I think it was good and I enjoyed it.” Ethan came close to opening the scoring in the first half, with a crisp drive that was well saved just as it was heading into the bottom corner. Arsenal got the winner in the second half though, by which time Martin Zubimendi and Kepa Arrizabalaga had come on for their non-competitive debuts, after Christian Norgaard had impressed in the first-half. Ethan said the squad is are shaping up well ahead of the new campaign. “Yes, I think all the signings we’ve made have been brilliant and sharpening the team and making us even stronger. We’ve got some more back at home coming, so we’re ready for them to all come and build together.”

Arsenal Signs Brentford midfielder Norgaard

Arsenal has signed Denmark midfielder Christian Norgaard from Brentford in a £15m deal. The 31-year-old has joined for an initial £10m – with a possible £5m in performance-related add-ons – on a two-year contract with the option of a third year. Norgaard joined Brentford from Fiorentina in 2019 and became a key player, captaining his side and making 196 appearances. He is Arsenal’s third signing of the summer after deals for Spaniards Martin Zubimendi and Kepa Arrizabalaga. Norgaard said he got “almost emotional” because signing for Arsenal means he will live his “dream” of playing Champions League football. “I’ve just turned 31 and had signed a new deal with Brentford,” he said. “There’s always a little chance that a miracle could happen with Brentford, but it was probably unrealistic to play Champions League with them. “Now I get to hear the anthem and be a part of a Champions League campaign. It’s a childhood dream and something I didn’t think would be possible. So it’s something I’m really, really happy about.” Norgaard helped Brentford win promotion from the Championship in 2021, before making 122 Premier League appearances. Midfielder Zubimendi joined Arsenal from Real Sociedad last week in a deal worth almost £60m, and goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga moved from Chelsea for £5m. Arsenal are also in talks to sign Sporting striker Viktor Gyokeres for £70m and have made a formal approach for Chelsea winger Noni Madueke. Norgaard was linked with a reunion with former manager Thomas Frank at Tottenham this summer and his record shows why he is highly regarded by the top teams. He has just completed his sixth successive season at Brentford, including all four of their Premier League campaigns. Since his top-flight debut in 2021, Norgaard has made 201 interceptions – the most of any Premier League player during this period – and he ranks second for recoveries (844) and third for tackles won (189). He is not renowned for goalscoring, but six goals in all competitions in 2024-25 was the best return of his career. Norgaard is a traditional number six who screened for danger in front of Brentford’s defence, breaking up opposition attacks. Norgaard is a modern defensive-anchor player. He can break up play, intercept, tackle, block and win aerial duels. He can let Martin Odegaard and Declan Rice do their thing while he protects their backs. He can also recycle the ball and play forwards effectively. In a league where there are so many transitions, a player who senses danger and has a great ability to regain the ball can be a must-have in your team. His physicality, and the fact it has been tested in the Premier League, also makes him a very sensible signing. He can be a great addition to Arsenal. Norgaard will fit perfectly with Zubimendi. They can even play together if Arteta opts for two holding players and one 10, instead of one anchor and two number eights. Zubimendi is more of a passer and creator. Norgaard is more a break-up-play midfielder who can regain possession, secure possession and stop the opposition from easily breaking into the final third. Arteta is making sure he will have enough strength in the midfield area to compete in all four competitions.

Arsenal has made contact with Chelsea over the potential signing of winger Noni Madueke. The Gunners were reported to have agreed personal terms with the England international over a five-year contract over the weekend. Arsenal have now contacted Chelsea ahead of attempting to agree a fee for the 23-year-old. Madueke, 23, was a first-team regular at Chelsea under Enzo Maresca last season. He featured in 32 of Chelsea’s 38 Premier League games – starting in 27 of them – and provided seven goals and three assists. Mail Sport reported on Tuesday that a winger has been targeted by Arsenal this summer, with Madueke high on their list. Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca had appeared open to Madueke potentially leaving the club when questioned about his future at the Club World Cup on the weekend. ‘Noni has been very important for us. But my message to the players and to the club is that I want just players that are happy to be with us,’ Maresca said. ‘The ones that are not happy, they are free to go. Noni has been very good during the season’.

Arsenal Submits Bid for Chelsea’s Madueke

Arsenal has reportedly submitted a bid for Chelsea winger Noni Madueke this week in may be one of the biggest deals for the summer. Talks are said to have started and the England forward who Arsenal boss sees as the perfect player to bolster his attack ahead of the new campaign. Arsenal could certainly do with more options in attack and may use Madueke to replace Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard who were lacklustre last season. Now, according to Sky Sports reporter Florian Plettenberg the Gunners have made an offer to their London rivals as talks begin for the 23-year-old. “Understand Arsenal have already submitted an offer to Noni #Madueke. 23 y/o winger could leave Chelsea in the summer. Talks have started. #CFC “Madueke is one of several top profiles Arsenal are assessing for this position. Arsenal are still considering a transfer for Rodrygo should he wish to leave Real Madrid.” The Blues are due to sign Joao Pedro from Brighton, Jamie Gittens from Borussia Dortmund and have already secured Liam Delap from Ipswich Town as manager Enzo Maresca reshapes his attack. Arsenal will see this as an opportunity to snap up Madueke who likely won’t be in Maresca’s plans heading into the new season. Despite this, the Italian boss has already stated his desire to keep Madueke at the club but a high bid could swiftly change his mind. “Noni is our player, you can read a lot of speculation at the moment but we consider Noni our player for the coming season,” Maresca said last month.
