Anthony Joshua Relocates To Dubai From UK Following Tragic Accident

Anthony Joshua has officially moved his residency from the United Kingdom to Dubai in the United Arab Emirates. The 36-year-old former heavyweight champion made the change public through official filings for his business interests, which are estimated to be worth around £150 million, declaring the UAE as his new country of residence. Joshua, born in Watford to Nigerian parents, rose to fame after winning Olympic gold for Great Britain at the 2012 London Games and went on to become a two-time unified heavyweight world champion. The move comes after a devastating car crash on December 29, 2025, on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. Joshua survived the crash, but personal trainer Latif “Latz” Ayodele and strength coach Sina Ghami lost their lives. Dubai remains a favored destination for wealthy athletes and celebrities, in part because it imposes no personal income tax. This provides a major financial incentive for high-earning sports figures like Joshua, whose companies—including Sparta Promotions—have reported strong profits in recent years. By relocating, Joshua will no longer face UK taxes on the substantial dividends generated by his business ventures.

Anthony Joshua Returns to Training, May Fight in July

Anthony Joshua could make his return to the ring in July, according to Matchroom promoter Eddie Hearn. The former two-time unified world heavyweight champion was involved in a car accident in December that left two of his close friends dead. Joshua did not suffer severe injuries, but it was unclear if and when he would compete again. Hearn has now revealed that the 36-year-old, who most recently fought Jake Paul in Miami, could be back in the ring this summer. “I’m looking at options to get him back in the ring in July,” Hearn told the press in Nottingham on Thursday. “We’ll only know if that’s a real possibility when he returns to camp.” Hearn also outlined plans for Joshua’s next opponents amid ongoing talk of a fight with Tyson Fury, who came out of retirement again last month. “Originally, the plan for AJ was for him to fight in March and then fight Tyson Fury in August. That’s not happening,” Hearn said. “He’s not fighting Tyson Fury next. He’s going to come back, I believe, late summer, but physically he’s not yet in a position to return to camp. I’m planning, but he’s just resting and preparing.” Hearn added that Joshua’s return to camp “will hopefully be in the next couple of weeks or a month”. On a potential date for the Fury fight, he said: “I think every fight is dangerous, coming off what he’s come off. We’re open to the Fury fight but probably more likely [near the] end of the year, maybe early 2027.” Fury, meanwhile, has said Joshua’s accident in Nigeria was a factor in his decision to come out of retirement, with The Gypsy King set to fight Arslanbek Makhmudov on April 11. “The biggest turning point in this comeback for me was a tragedy that happened with Anthony Joshua,” revealed Fury. “I was on holiday with my family in Thailand for Christmas, then I hear all that bad news that’s gone on, and I thought life is very, very short and very precious and very fragile and anything can happen at any given moment. “You should never put things off until tomorrow or next year or next week, because tomorrow is never promised to nobody. “The Bible says ‘Tomorrow is not a gift, tomorrow ain’t promised, tomorrow is a mystery’. So we have to live for today. “I made my mind up there and then that I’m going to come back to boxing because it’s something that I love, and I’m passionate about, and I’ve always been in love with, and there is no tomorrow to put it off too, so that’s why I’m back today for this big fight.”

Fury: Joshua Auto Crash Provoked Comeback Fight

Tyson Fury said the deaths of two of long-time rival Anthony Joshua’s friends in a car crash in December prompted his return to boxing. Fury will step back into the ring on April 11 after a 15-month absence to face Russian-born heavyweight Arslanbek Makhmudov in a bout at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. The 37-year-old retired after his second successive loss to Oleksandr Usyk at the end of 2024 and went a calendar year without a fight before revealing his latest comeback on January 4. The announcement came a week after compatriot Joshua was involved in a car crash in Nigeria which killed his close friends Sina Ghami and Latif Ayodele. “Tomorrow might not ever come and I suppose the biggest turning point in this comeback for me was the tragedy that happened with Anthony Joshua,” Fury said. “You should never put things off until tomorrow, or next year, or next week because tomorrow is not promised to nobody.” Any plans for Fury and Joshua to finally fight in 2026 have been put on the back burner. And Fury, a former two-time world heavyweight champion, claimed he has also returned to the ring to bring back some glamour to the sport. “The truth of the matter is I came back for one reason only and that’s to make boxing great again,” added Fury. “Since I’ve retired for the fifth time over a year ago, boxing for me has gone on a downward slope and it’s become quite boring.”

Anthony Joshua Opens Up on Loss of Friends in Car Crash

Anthony Joshua has opened up on the loss of two close friends as he issued a tearful message to the fans addressing the fatal car crash in Nigeria. The boxing world united to pay tribute to Joshua’s former teammates Sina Ghami and Latif ‘Latz’ Ayodele after both were killed in the crash near Lagos on 29 December. ‘AJ’, the former world heavyweight champion, appeared in agony as he was hauled out of the vehicle but was only left with minor injuries and has since returned to the gym in a bid to revisit his craft. Joshua issued an initial statement paying tribute to Ghami and Ayodele but has now taken to Instagram to speak more vulnerably to his fanbase. “Not only did their parents, their uncles, their cousins their friends, and myself lose two great men. We lost people we dearly care about and have been major players in all of our lives,” Joshua said. “It’s tough, it’s really tough. “I’m not going to sit here and show all of my emotions. I know in today’s day and age, it’s easy to micro-analyse as people and pass judgement but I know what I feel, and that’s what matters to me. “I know what my duty is. They’re my brothers, they’re my friends, first and foremost. And then we became business partners. We became hustlers. We became lieutenants, we became generals. We became everything. We became housemates who were living together.” It was the third post from Joshua since the accident, having first posted a shot of himself alongside family members, with a portrait shot of Ghami, before posting a touching written tribute. As he staved off tears, Joshua added: “It is a shame, it’s a shame. So there’s that side of things. One day my time will come and I’m not scared at all. It’s actually comforting knowing I’ve got two brothers on the other side. “I’ve lost people before but I don’t think I’ve lost people like that. My left and my right. Throughout this like journey that I’ve been on, they’ve been (here), it’s not easy. “I’m the big guy, but I was walking with giants that kept me protected, kept me shielded. But the mission must go on. I understand my duty. I understand what they wanted to do for their families. “So what my goal is, it’s to continue to help them achieve their goals, even though they may not be here in physical. When I pray at night, when I pray in the morning, I know spiritually they’re gonna aid me through because it’s not just physical strength that will get me through, it’s going to take a lot of strength from the higher power. “I’m going to definitely be saying my prayers and I’m gonna help them fulfil their dreams for their families. Not only me, there’s a whole team of us, the the whole brotherhood, the whole sisterhood that will be helping fulfil their legacy and fulfil their dreams.” Joshua also made sure to thank all those who had offered their support and love across social media, saying it was “all acknowledged”.

He was arraigned on January 2 before Magistrate Olufunilayo Somefun. Anthony Joshua Resumes Training 19 Days After Tragic Car Crash That Killed Two Friends

Anthony Joshua has made a return to training just under three weeks after a devastating car accident that claimed the lives of two close associates. The 36-year-old former heavyweight champion was injured in the December 29 crash on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, which killed his strength and conditioning coach, Sina Ghami, and trainer Latif ‘Latz’ Ayodele. Joshua shared a Snapchat video of himself hitting pads with the caption “mental strength therapy,” marking a step toward regaining normalcy. Additional clips showed him cycling on an exercise bike and swimming, all compiled into a short montage. Other posts included a photo of a cardio machine display, captioned “I am a fighter,” alongside a throwback image from his 2017 fight against Wladimir Klitschko. The boxer, of Nigerian descent, had been on holiday in Nigeria following his victory over Jake Paul in Miami just 10 days before the accident. At the time of the crash, Joshua’s driver, 47-year-old Adeniyi Kayode, did not hold a valid driver’s licence. The incident left Joshua hospitalized and led to criminal charges against Kayode. During a recent court session, Kayode pleaded not guilty to all charges, including dangerous driving, claiming the vehicle’s brakes failed. He was granted bail but taken to Sagamu Correctional Centre for documentation. Kayode’s lawyer, Olalekan Abiodun, said his client had recently renewed his licence and was cleared to drive pending the release of the updated document. He described the crash as an accident and explained that Joshua initially sat in the front seat but swapped places with the driver due to his size, while Latif Ayodele also moved seats before the collision occurred.

Kamaru Usman Apologises After Leaked Private Call With Anthony Joshua Sparks Backlash

Former UFC welterweight titleholder Kamaru Usman has issued a public apology after a private FaceTime conversation with ex-heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua surfaced online without permission. The leaked footage appeared in a YouTube video Usman posted on Wednesday and captured an emotional exchange between the two fighters in the aftermath of a tragic road accident in Nigeria that killed two of Joshua’s close friends. The call was made on December 30, a day after the crash, while Joshua was still hospitalised and shortly before an MMA event in Lagos. The accident occurred on December 29 along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway and claimed the lives of Sina Ghami and Latif Ayodele, both close associates of the boxer. Joshua survived the crash and was rescued from the damaged vehicle before being taken to Duchess International Hospital for treatment. In the video, he is seen on a hospital bed with bandages on his head and body, speaking candidly to Usman about the loss and admitting the weight of the tragedy had not fully registered. During the call, Usman asked about where the victims were seated in the black Lexus at the time of the accident. “One was in the front and one was behind him, on the right side. They both passed away. It still hasn’t sunk in. It still hasn’t hit me yet,” Joshua said. “I’m sorry for that, man. You scared the world, I’ll tell you that right now,” Usman responded. “Life is short, man. Life is short. And now look, I get to speak with you for the first time,” Joshua added. “I know. It’s a funny way how things move, you know? We thank God,” Usman replied. It’s crazy because, obviously, we deal with the haters and all the bull**** every time, and it sucks that it takes something serious like this to really see how many people have their eyes on you.” The decision to release the clip triggered widespread backlash online, with many criticising Usman for sharing such a personal and painful moment. Addressing the criticism on his Instagram story on Thursday, Usman admitted fault and apologised for the oversight. “After seeing what’s being written, it’s quite heartbreaking. Being on camera that whole day in preparation for The AKO Show, it completely slipped my mind that my conversation was recorded,” he wrote. “I realised afterwards and asked about it. I take full responsibility for not properly reviewing the video that was released and for failing to keep my private conversation with my brother, AJ, private. SMH. Big L on me. That’s not something I would ever do to a friend or brother.” After seeing what’s being written it’s quite heartbreaking.
