DSS Recaptures Ansaru Operative Linked to 2022 Kuje Jailbreak

The Department of State Services (DSS) has captured a fugitive linked to the Ansaru terrorist group and the 2022 Kuje Correctional Centre jailbreak in Abuja, security sources confirmed Thursday. The suspect, Abdulaziz Obadaki, is believed to have played a central role in orchestrating the jailbreak that allowed hundreds of inmates to escape, according to intelligence reports. Obadaki, who had previously been apprehended but later escaped, is said to have been a senior Ansaru operative, coordinating sleeper cell operations across Nigeria and facilitating the breakout of terror suspects. The July 2022 attack on Kuje Correctional Centre led to the escape of 879 inmates, including numerous high-profile terror suspects. The DSS described Obadaki’s recapture as a significant achievement in Nigeria’s fight against terrorism, emphasizing that it would strengthen ongoing prosecutions under the nation’s counter-terrorism laws. Details regarding the arrest and potential arraignment have not yet been released by the agency.
