SWAN Congratulates Malikawa, Musa On Kano Pillars’ Appointments

The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) has congratulated one of its National Leaders, Alhaji Idris Malikawa Garu, who was recently appointed into the management board of Kano Pillars FC. SWAN President Mr. Isaiah Benjamin in a statement on Tuesday through the Association’s Secretary-General, Amb Ikenna Okonkwo, also hailed the appointment of Football Star and Super Eagles captain, Ahmed Musa, as the club’s General Manager. President Benjamin noted that the latest decision of Kano State Government in the pilot of Kano Pillars’ leadership affairs is both apt and forward-looking. He said, “The latest announcement by the Kano State Government regarding the management board of Kano Pillars, with the inclusion of professionals, is a cheering one. “As Sports Journalists, we have keenly observed the reaction of teeming Nigerian football lovers (Kano Pillars fans and others) since the appointments were made few days ago, most persons have been saying a lot of good things. “Idris Malikawa and Ahmed Musa are among prominent sports personalities in the board and we believe that their presence will certainly make the difference for Kano Pillars desirous of returning to the peak of performance as long as domestic and continental engagements are concerned.” The Number One Sports Writer in Nigeria then urged them to redouble their efforts in realising the lofty desires of the Kano State Government, Kano Pillars and their followers. Chelle Picks Simon, Musa, Nwabali, Ndidi, 21 Others for Unity Cup Tourney in London

Head Coach Eric Chelle has selected rave-of-the-moment in France, Moses Simon, goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali, midfielder Wilfred Ndidi and forward Ahmed Musa among a total of 25 Super Eagles who will execute this month-end’s Unity Cup Tournament in London. Chelle, who admitted that “we’re looking forward to taking part in the Unity Cup as it will give us the chance to try out a few new players in different roles, helping us to strengthen our squad before the matches in September and October,” has included a number of standout Nigeria Premier Football League players in the Unity Cup houseparty. Junior Harrison Nduka, captain of the CHAN-bound Super Eagles B and of champions Remo Stars, will seek a slot in the defence that also has Semi Ajayi, Bruno Onyemaechi, Igoh Ogbu and fellow home-boys Ifeanyi Onyebuchi, Sodiq Ismaila and Waliu Ojetoye, while Papa Daniel Mustapha, Saviour Isaac and Collins Ugwueze will have to contend with Wilfred Ndidi, Frank Onyeka and Chrisantus Uche in midfield. The tournament will kick off with the first semi-final on Tuesday, 27th May as Trinidad & Tobago tackle Jamaica in the first-ever ‘Trini-Jam’ on UK soil. The following day, three-time African champions Nigeria will take on four-time African champions Ghana in the second semi-final, which will come with all the intrigues and variables of a 74-year rivalry between the two continental giants. All four teams will return on Saturday, 31st May for the grand finale, with the losers of the semi-final fixtures featuring in the third-place game, before the Final to determine The Unity Cup 2025 champions. Ahmed Musa performs Islamic rites in Saudi Arabia

Super Eagles and Kano Pillars’ striker, Ahmed Musa, has joined other Muslim faithfuls to observe the annual Umrah in Saudi Arabia. Umrah is considered a recommendation, not an obligation, by some branches of Islam. The former Al Nassr of Saudi Arabia star, who was pictured alognsides his other two associates, wrote on Twitter now X; “May Allah accept our prayers. Ameen, Ameen.” Musa became the first Nigerian to score more than once in a FIFA World Cup match, after scoring twice against Argentina in the 2014 FIFA World Cup. He is also the first Nigerian to score in two FIFA World Cup competitions, after scoring another brace against Iceland in the group stage of the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

Kano appoints Ahmed Musa Sports Ambassador 

Former Super Eagles’ skipper Ahmed Musa has been appointed as Sports Ambassador for Kano State.  The Secretary to the State Government, Abdullahi Baffa Bichi in a letter on Wednesday congratulated the former Leicester City player on his appointment.  “It is my singular honour to formally convey to you that His Excellency, Governor Abba K. Yusuf of Kano State has approved your appointment as Kano State Sports Ambassador with effect from 24th July, 2024.  “The decision to appoint you into this exalted position of trust and confidence was predicated upon your professional competence, track record of excellent performance, vast experience, dedication to the development of sporting activities and provision of humanitarian services in the State. It is hoped that you will bring these sterling qualities to bear on your new assignment.  “It is my ardent prayer that your appointment as Kano State Sports Administrator will assist the Government significantly in attaining the objective of promoting the overall sporting activities espadrilles it relates to our home based clubs and players.  “While congratulating you over this well-deserved appointment, it is my sincere hope that you will live above board and justify the confidence reposed in you by the Government. Ahmed Musa reveals plans to return to NPFL

Former Super Eagles captain Ahmed Musa has revealed plans to return to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).  The pacy winger gave this hint in a post on his official X handle on Tuesday.  He asked; “Let’s go again, which of this teams do you wish for me to sign?”  Musa was loaned to Kano Pillars in the 2009–10 season where he set the league record scoring multiple crucial goals as Pillars finished second. Hereford held the record for the highest goals ever scored in one season in the history of the Nigeria Premier League until November 2011. Musa became the first Nigerian to score more than once in a FIFA World Cup match, after scoring twice against Argentina in the 2014 FIFA World Cup. Musa is also the first Nigerian to score in two FIFA World Cup competitions, after scoring another brace against Iceland in the group stage of the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
