Real Madrid has confirmed that winger Rodrygo Goes has suffered a serious knee injury, which is expected to rule him out of the World Cup with Brazil this summer. The club announced on Tuesday that medical tests revealed Rodrygo has a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament and a tear of the lateral meniscus in his right knee. The 25-year-old sustained the injury while coming on as a substitute during Real Madrid’s 1-0 home defeat to Getafe on Monday. Though he finished the match, further examinations revealed the severity of the damage. Rodrygo had just returned from a month-long absence due to tendonitis, making the setback particularly frustrating. Brazil coach Carlo Ancelotti will now be unable to include the forward in the squad as the five-time World Cup winners aim for a sixth trophy in the United States. Real Madrid will also face challenges, with Kylian Mbappe sidelined due to a knee sprain. Manager Alvaro Arbeloa now has only three fit forwards—Vinicius Junior, Gonzalo Garcia, and Franco Mastantuono—ahead of next week’s Champions League last-16 tie against Manchester City at the Santiago Bernabeu.
