Tinubu Travels To Rome For Aqaba Counter-Terrorism Meeting

President Bola Tinubu will depart Abuja today for Rome, Italy, to participate in the Aqaba Process heads of state and government meeting — a global platform dedicated to counter-terrorism and regional security cooperation. The Aqaba Process was launched in 2015 by Jordan’s King Abdullah II and is co-chaired by Jordan and the Italian government. It brings together world leaders, defence chiefs, and security experts to strengthen coordination against terrorism and transnational crime. Bayo Onanuga, special adviser to the president on information and strategy, said the upcoming session will focus on the security crisis in West Africa. Opening on October 14, the meeting will gather presidents, top intelligence and military officials from African countries, as well as representatives from international and non-governmental organisations. Discussions will cover the expansion of terrorist networks, the growing connection between organised crime and terrorism, and the increasing link between land-based insurgencies in the Sahel and piracy in the Gulf of Guinea. Participants will exchange intelligence reports, assess the current security environment, and design strategies to improve cooperation in combating threats across borders. They will also explore new approaches to tackling online radicalisation and shutting down digital platforms that spread extremist propaganda and aid recruitment. Tinubu is also expected to hold bilateral meetings with other leaders on the sidelines of the summit to deepen regional partnerships and discuss joint responses to the rising insecurity across West Africa. He will be accompanied by Bianca Ojukwu, minister of state for foreign affairs; Mohammed Badaru, minister of defence; Nuhu Ribadu, national security adviser; Mohammed Mohammed, director-general of the National Intelligence Agency; and other senior government officials.

The meeting was chaired by ADC National Chairman and former Senate President, David Mark, with notable figures in attendance, including National Secretary Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, former Secretary to the Government of the Federation Babachir Lawal, and former Edo State Governor Professor Oserheimen Osunbor, among others. Before the discussions went private, Mark addressed members of the National Working Committee (NWC), emphasizing the need for the ADC to champion a new brand of politics centered on integrity, national development, and service to the people rather than personal ambition. Tinubu Returns To Abuja After 10-Day Working Visit To Lagos

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is expected to return to Abuja today (Monday) after spending ten days in Lagos for a working visit that focused on strengthening Nigeria’s economy and attracting investment. According to his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu arrived in Lagos on September 26, shortly after attending the coronation of the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, in Ibadan. During his stay, the President held a series of strategic meetings with business leaders and investors, including Global Infrastructure Partners CEO Bayo Ogunlesi and Metis Capital Partners Chairman Hakeem Belo-Osagie, who is also a former Chairman of UBA and Etisalat. The discussions centered on fostering public-private partnerships and enhancing investor confidence in Nigeria’s economy. Tinubu also hosted the Secretary-General of the International Maritime Organisation (IMO), Arsenio Dominguez, in the company of the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, and other key maritime stakeholders. He reiterated his administration’s commitment to developing the maritime industry as a major source of revenue, positioning it as a sustainable alternative to the country’s dependence on fossil fuels.

NAFDAC Seals Chinese Supermarkets And Cosmetics Shops In Abuja Over N170m Worth Of Illegal Products

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has sealed two Chinese supermarkets in Abuja’s Jabi District and eight cosmetics shops in Wuse Market for violating regulations on the sale, labelling, and distribution of controlled products. The move was confirmed in a press release on Friday signed by the agency’s Deputy Director of Public Relations and Protocol, Adegboyega Osiyemi. NAFDAC disclosed that its enforcement team seized products worth over N170 million during the operation, which was carried out under the directive of the Director-General, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye. The exercise was led by officials of the Investigation and Enforcement Directorate, alongside members of the Federal Task Force on Counterfeit and Substandard Medicines and Unwholesome Processed Foods, headed by Assistant Chief Regulatory Officer, Musa Embugushiki. The agency explained that the supermarkets, located on Mike Akhigbe Way and Ebitu Ukiwe Street, were shut down following consumer complaints and surveillance that exposed the sale of unregistered food items labelled only in Chinese—contrary to NAFDAC’s mandatory labelling policy, which requires English translations for the Nigerian market. One of the outlets initially denied being operational, but investigators confirmed it was running fully and selling unregistered products. At Wuse Market, eight cosmetics shops were also sealed for selling banned, expired, and unregistered items, including aphrodisiacs and aesthetic medicines. NAFDAC revealed that some individuals were posing as dermatologists and pharmacists, prescribing and selling harmful products for skin whitening, body enhancement, and sexual performance. Items confiscated include Wenicks Capsules, Maxman Capsules, Boobs Enlargement, Curvy Weight Gain, Skin Whitening Vitamin Gummies, Collagen, Royal Jelly, Glutathione Whitening Gummies, White Doll, Dr. Gallery Plus, Maiz Zaki Syrup, Original Herbal Yellow Fever, Sickle Cell Medicine, Dr. Nafisa Herbal Medicine, Dynewell Syrup, and White Blinks. Prof. Adeyeye warned that such products expose users to serious health dangers such as kidney damage, skin cancer, irritability, and memory loss. She reaffirmed NAFDAC’s determination to protect Nigerians from harmful substances and urged consumers to patronise only duly registered products. The agency further advised foreign nationals and investors wishing to import or sell products in Nigeria to visit NAFDAC offices for proper registration and regulatory guidance.

As Nigeria celebrates its 65th Independence anniversary, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barr. Nyesom Wike, has affirmed that Abuja remains one of the safest cities in the country, attributing this to both government initiatives and residents’ commitment to peace. In his Independence Day message to FCT residents, Wike said the territory has stood out as a model of unity and security, even as other parts of the country face challenges. “Residents have remained intentional about living together in peace and harmony despite a few distractions. Consequently, the FCT has become one of the most peaceful places to reside in the entire country,” he stated. Wike credited Abuja’s relative calm to a joint effort: the security measures implemented by the FCT Administration in partnership with law enforcement agencies, and the residents’ “zero tolerance for insecurity.” He praised citizens for their vigilance and cooperation, urging them to continue reporting suspicious activities and supporting the administration’s efforts to maintain law and order. The minister also highlighted the role of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which he said has brought “unprecedented development and security measures” to the capital. “We have reconstructed schools and hospitals, built strategic roads, empowered youths and women, and supported our farmers. These interventions are strengthening the economy of the FCT and improving living standards,” Wike said. Looking ahead to the February 2026 area council elections, Wike called on residents to uphold Abuja’s reputation for peace by focusing on issues-based campaigns and voting responsibly. “I implore residents to campaign for candidates of their choice in a peaceful and orderly manner. I also encourage everyone to come out in large numbers to vote for leaders with vision and the capacity to drive development,” he appealed. “As we mark 65 years of nationhood, let us look forward with renewed hope. The FCT will continue to symbolize our unity, resilience, and now, one of the safest places to call home in Nigeria,” he concluded.

NFF D-License Coaching Course Takes Off in Abuja

A total of 40 coaches are taking part in a six-day NFF D-License Coaching Course that began in the Federal Capital, Abuja on Tuesday. NFF Technical Director, Coach Augustine Eguavoen, explained that the D-License is a prerequisite for qualifying to take part in the C-License course, and it is in modules and for beginners, and must last a minimum of 60 hours. “Just as it is in life, everything in football is in stages. We have a lot of talented young ones out there, and it is not the way you coach adults that you coach the young ones. Coaching the young ones requires special training. “This course is not going to be a one-off. After this national programme, we will have to take it to the Zones, and subsequently to the States. We have a total of 40 coaches undergoing this programme, and I can assure you they have a lot to learn.” After the record-setting CAF C-License programme exclusively for women coaches that took place over the months of July, August and September last year (three modules) and which involved 30 participants, the NFF organized a CAF B-License Course which saw a total of 30 participants, in April this year. There has also been a Coach Educators’ Course, which involved 25 participants, in July this year.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed the Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, to immediately commence the construction of two hostels of 300 capacity each for the Nigerian Law School, Abuja. The President also directed the construction of the road linking the Body of Benchers Secretariat, Jabi District with Nile University. The FCT Minister’s Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka said in a release on Tuesday, that the projects will be executed under emergency consideration. He disclosed that one female hostel with capacity for 300 occupants and another 300-capacity male hostel will be constructed in the Nigerian Law School, Abuja to provide accommodation for students of the school. The FCT Minister’s Spokesperson said the road linking the Body of Benchers Secretariat with Nile University, when completed, will ease traffic congestion on the road leading to the head office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
