Nigerian music icon Innocent Idibia, popularly known as 2Baba, is celebrating 25 years in the music industry, marking the milestone with an emotional open letter of gratitude shared on his social media pages. Titled “Open Letter of Gratitude 2Baba @ 25 Years in the Industry,” the heartfelt note reflects on his journey, the people who helped shape his success, and the lessons he has learned along the way. “As I stand on the threshold of 25 years in this incredible journey called music, my heart is full of gratitude, memories, lessons, and love. This celebration is not mine alone. It belongs to everyone who played a role in shaping the story of Innocent Idibia, 2Baba,” he wrote. 2Baba went on to acknowledge key figures who contributed to his rise, including Nelson Brown, Kenny Ogungbe (Baba Keke), Dayo Adeneye (D1), Eddie Lawani, and DJ Jimmy Jatt. He credited Nelson Brown for discovering and believing in the Plantashun Boiz — the legendary trio made up of 2Baba, Faze, and Blackface — giving them their first platform when no one else did. “You were the first to see light in the dream of three young men when no one else believed. You gave us a voice when we barely had a microphone, a space when all we had was a dream,” he said. 2Baba also appreciated Baba Keke and D1 for mentoring him and opening professional doors that shaped not just his career but also the Nigerian music industry. “You opened doors that led us from dreams to destiny. We made history together, we won together. You stood as mentors and big brothers, and your names will forever be etched in my story,” he wrote. The veteran singer also thanked Eddie Lawani for giving Plantashun Boiz opportunities to perform when stages were limited, praising his consistent belief in their talent. He equally expressed deep gratitude to DJ Jimmy Jatt, calling him a brother and longtime supporter who stood by him through the highs and lows of his journey. 2Baba concluded his letter by emphasizing that the anniversary is not just about his personal success but also a celebration of everyone who has played a part in the rise of Nigerian music on the global stage. “Without the people who believed, corrected, and supported me, my story would have been incomplete,” he wrote.
