2Face Idibia Named National Fire Safety Ambassador To Promote Nationwide Awareness

The Federal Government has named music icon and humanitarian Innocent “2Face” Idibia as its National Fire Safety Ambassador, assigning him the role of promoting fire prevention awareness and encouraging safer practices across Nigeria. The announcement was made on Friday in Abuja by the Controller General of the Federal Fire Service, Samuel Adeyemi, during the closing ceremony of the 2025 National Fire Safety Week held at the Service’s Headquarters. The event, themed “Building a Culture of Fire Safety Across Nigeria: Overcoming the ‘Not My Portion’ Mentality,” highlighted the need for citizens to take personal responsibility in preventing fire-related incidents. Adeyemi, represented by Deputy Controller General Aliyu Tambari, recalled that the week began with a virtual town hall, followed by the presentation of Bankers’ Cheques under the Group Life Insurance Scheme to families of fallen and injured fire officers. The week also featured the presentation of the “CG’s Cup” and medals sponsored by Kabir Lateef to recognise and motivate Fire Service personnel. Nationwide sensitisation campaigns were carried out in schools, markets, and major commercial hubs, including street roadshows, drills, and practical demonstrations to equip citizens with fire prevention knowledge. Adeyemi described the public response as “remarkable,” noting increased interest and renewed national commitment to fire safety. Certificates and awards were presented to individuals and institutions demonstrating exemplary compliance with safety standards and active community engagement. Special recognition was given to 2Face Idibia, whose influence is expected to amplify public messaging, inspire behavioural change, and connect millions of Nigerians to the national fire safety agenda. “As a National Fire Safety Ambassador, we expect him to inspire a new generation to embrace a culture of safety,” Adeyemi said. The Controller General reaffirmed the Service’s commitment to strengthening training, modernising operations, improving coordination with other agencies, and deepening community engagement, stressing that fire safety is a continuous responsibility, not a one-time event. He also thanked the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, civil society groups, corporate partners, community leaders, and fire officers for their contributions to the success of Safety Week.
