PDP Roars Back: 2027 Will Be a Referendum on Tinubu’s Failures – Ologunagba

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has declared its readiness to take on the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2027, calling the upcoming general election a referendum on what it described as the “failures” of President Bola Tinubu’s administration. PDP National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, made this bold assertion during a press briefing in Abuja following the party’s 99th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting. Ologunagba praised the unity displayed at the NEC meeting, brushing aside pre-meeting skepticism and describing the successful gathering as a symbol of the PDP’s resilience. “The meeting held despite all doubts, and it showed our capacity to reorganise, refocus, and stay united. This is a signal that the PDP is back and ready,” he declared. He slammed the APC-led government over worsening insecurity, economic hardship, and policy failures. “People are dying in instalments, and this government is celebrating defections while citizens go hungry. Propaganda won’t feed Nigerians,” Ologunagba said. He insisted that no wave of defections could rescue the APC from electoral backlash in 2027, adding, “The question every Nigerian must ask is: Am I better off today than I was two years ago?” On internal cohesion, the PDP spokesperson revealed ongoing reconciliation efforts ahead of the next national convention. “We’re having critical conversations behind the scenes. The NEC meeting is just the beginning—we’re determined to present a credible alternative to Nigerians and protect this democracy from being reduced to a one-party state,” he concluded.

Atiku Slams Tinubu Over Insecurity Accuses President of Indifference Amid Rising Violence

2027: PDP Governors Playing Spoiler Role for Tinubu — Atiku’s Coalition

The coalition led by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has accused governors of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of sabotaging the opposition by aligning with President Bola Tinubu’s interests ahead of the 2027 general election. In a statement by spokesman Salihu Moh. Lukman, the coalition criticized the PDP Governors Forum for rejecting efforts to form a broad-based alliance of opposition parties. Lukman described the PDP as a weakened force, alleging that it had failed Nigerians by not offering credible opposition since losing power over a decade ago. He claimed that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) had effectively hijacked the PDP, using actors like Minister Nyesom Wike to ensure the party cannot mount a serious challenge in 2027. He further accused the PDP governors of hijacking the party’s organs and undermining internal democracy. Lukman noted that the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the PDP had not met in two years, illustrating the party’s dysfunction. He warned that the governors were now playing into Tinubu’s hands by opposing the formation of a united opposition front. According to Lukman, the coalition’s core mission is to rescue Nigerian democracy by restoring political negotiation, trust, and competitive democratic values. He emphasized that both APC and PDP had failed in this regard, often disrespecting agreements and sidelining democratic institutions. Despite resistance from PDP leaders, the coalition, which includes figures like Peter Obi, Nasir el-Rufai, Babachir Lawal, and other disenchanted APC leaders, remains committed to uniting patriotic Nigerians. Lukman extended a call to all political actors to join forces in rebuilding Nigeria’s democracy, warning that the future of the country depends on it.

San Siro loses 2027 Champions League final due to uncertain future

The 2027 Champions League final will be moved away from the San Siro in Milan due to uncertainties over potential renovations, UEFA said on Tuesday. European football’s governing body said that the San Siro had lost the showpiece fixture as the city of Milan could not guarantee that the ground and the surrounding area “would not be affected by refurbishment works”. “It was decided not to assign the final to Milan and to re-open the bidding process to appoint a suitable venue, with a decision expected in May/June 2025,” added UEFA. Earlier this month AC Milan and Inter Milan, who both play their home matches at the San Siro, rejected a project to modernise and restructure the iconic stadium, which is owned by the city of Milan. Mayor of Milan Giuseppe Sala said both clubs would be ready to relaunch their initial project of a new stadium in the immediate vicinity of San Siro, which had been abandoned last year after political and bureaucratic wrangles. Earlier this year AC Milan bought land in the suburb of San Donato Milanese, to the south-east of the city, as part of a plan to move outside the official boundaries of the city of Milan in the hope they would more easily gain building approval. Reigning Serie A champions Inter have their sights set on the towns of Rozzano and Assago, just south of Milan, after sounding out the possibility of building on former industrial land in populous northern suburb Sesto San Giovanni. In 2026, San Siro will host the opening ceremony of the Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics.
