Speed Darlington Remains On NAPTIP Watchlist Amid Allegations Of Sexual Misconduct With Minor

Rapper Speed Darlington is still under close surveillance by the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) following allegations of sexual activity with a minor.

The agency said Darlington, whose real name is Darlington Okoye, was placed on the watchlist after ignoring multiple invitations to appear before investigators in Abuja.

At a press briefing to launch the 2025 edition of the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence, NAPTIP’s Director of Legal and Prosecution, Mrs Ijeoma Amugo, revealed that the investigation stems from a May 2024 Instagram live video in which the rapper allegedly claimed to have had sexual relations with a 15-year-old girl.

Amugo noted that instead of cooperating, the rapper attacked the agency on social media and refused to submit to questioning.

“He went to social media to say he wouldn’t appear and claimed that we were violating his human rights. We tried to locate him physically because a suspect must be found for justice to take its course,” she said.

Attempts to track Darlington to known addresses were unsuccessful, with intelligence indicating that he had left Nigeria.

“Our latest information is that he is outside the country. He remains on our watchlist, and the moment he returns, the investigation will resume from where it stopped,” Amugo stated.

In July, reports indicated that NAPTIP had placed the rapper on an international watchlist with a N50 million bounty after the expiration of the wanted status grace period.
