Sarah Martins Detained By Lagos Sanitation Corps Over Unauthorized Roadside Charity
Actress Sarah Martins was detained by the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC) for conducting activities on public infrastructure without official approval, the Lagos State Government has stated.
In a statement on Friday, Tokunbo Wahab, Commissioner for the Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources, said Martins’ charitable cooking on a road median violated the state’s environmental and sanitation regulations.
“The incident took place in the Admiralty area of Lekki Phase 1, where an individual was apprehended for unauthorized use of public infrastructure,” the statement said. “While acts of charity are appreciated, they must comply with state laws to ensure public safety, protect the environment, and maintain order in the city.”
The commissioner highlighted Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s commitment to keeping Lagos clean and sustainable, stressing that improper use of public spaces can disrupt traffic, create health risks, and damage infrastructure.
“Actions such as the arrest and removal of equipment are part of the #KeepLagosClean and #ZeroToleranceLagos campaigns. Residents and organizations are urged to seek approval or use designated areas for charitable initiatives, ensuring their activities align with regulations,” the statement added.
