Rivers Hoopers stormed past Police Batons with an 87-58 victory in their third match of the Atlantic Conference at the Nigeria Premier Basketball League in Benin on Tuesday.
Key players Abel Offia, Patrick Abah, and Michael Daramola led the charge, combining for a powerful 44 points against Police Batons.
The game started with a slow pace from both teams, with the Hoopers narrowly leading 8-7 in the first eight minutes. Late in the first quarter, Buchi Nwaiwu added a crucial four points, extending the lead to 15-12 as they headed into the second quarter.
Reflecting on the game, Hoopers forward Patrick Abah described it as both challenging and rewarding. “We had a slow start due to our mindset and overconfidence,” Abah admitted. “Our coach reminded us to stay focused and push harder defensively, which helped turn things around.”
The Hoopers quickly found their rhythm, going on a remarkable 19-0 run that propelled them to a 41-25 lead by halftime. Despite a slower third quarter on offense, they regained their footing to close out the game decisively in the fourth.
Next up, Rivers Hoopers are set to face Ebun Comets at 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday. Anticipating a physical game, Abah expressed the team’s readiness: “Comets will come at us hard, but we’re prepared. Staying focused and following our coach’s guidance will be key.”
