Rivers Governor Fubara Dismisses All Commissioners and Public Officers Following Supreme Court Ruling

Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has dismissed all commissioners and public officers in his administration, effective immediately.

The announcement was made Wednesday evening in Port Harcourt by his Chief Press Secretary, Nelson Chukwudi, following a recent Supreme Court ruling.

The decision came during a valedictory session with his cabinet at Government House, Port Harcourt, held to mark Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary. Fubara thanked his cabinet members for their service and contributions over the past two years.

The statement read, “Rivers State Governor, His Excellency Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has thanked members of his cabinet for their services and contributions to the development of the State in the last two years. The governor highlighted the significance of Nigeria’s Independence and called on all Nigerians to work together with Mr President to build a peaceful, secure, and prosperous country and a brighter future for all.”

Fubara also reaffirmed his commitment to serve the State with renewed energy, thanked citizens for their support, and wished all Nigerians a happy Independence anniversary.

“Furthermore, the Governor has relieved all Commissioners and other public officers affected by the recent Supreme Court judgment of their appointments with immediate effect,” the statement added.

This follows the tenure of the immediate past Administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (rtd), who, upon assuming office, had suspended all commissioners, special advisers, and special assistants appointed by Fubara after his suspension by President Bola Tinubu during the state of emergency in Rivers. Ibas also dissolved all boards and suspended heads of parastatals.

Until Ibas left office on September 18, the future of Fubara’s appointees remained uncertain.
