JAMB Opens 2025 UTME Registration From January 26

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced that registration for the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) will take place from January 26 to February 28 at all approved Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres across Nigeria. JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, disclosed this on Saturday in Lagos during a meeting with Commissioners for Education ahead of the 2025 UTME and Direct Entry exercises. He explained that the sale of UTME application documents, known as ePINs, will start earlier than the registration period, running from January 19 to February 26. “The actual UTME registration will take place from January 26 to February 28 at all approved CBT centres,” Oloyede said, adding that the mock examination selection will close on February 16. The sale of Direct Entry application documents and ePIN vending will commence on March 2 and close on April 25. Unlike previous years, UTME results for underage candidates will only be released after completing a thorough evaluation process to assess their eligibility for age waivers. The registrar stressed that all CBT centres will be monitored live from JAMB headquarters during the registration process. He warned that centres whose activities cannot be monitored centrally will not be paid, and any registrations conducted at such centres may be invalidated. Oloyede revealed that 924 centres have been screened and provisionally listed for the exercise. They will undergo a final test before receiving full accreditation to participate in the registration and examination. He also clarified that candidates are not required to pay any service charges to CBT centres, emphasising that only the registration fees approved by JAMB are payable. Addressing concerns about postings to distant towns, Oloyede explained that candidates will only be posted to towns they select during registration. He advised early registration to avoid being posted to less-preferred locations. “The choice of a group of towns implies that candidates can be posted to any of the towns in the selected group,” he added. The registrar warned candidates to declare their previous registration and admission history, noting that running more than one undergraduate programme concurrently is a criminal offence. Failure to disclose prior admissions will be sanctioned. On age requirements, Oloyede stated that candidates must be at least 16 years old by September 30, 2026, to be eligible for UTME. Underage candidates will undergo a rigorous evaluation and must score at least 80 per cent in UTME/A’LEVEL, PUTME, SSCE, and the exceptional candidate assessment to qualify for consideration.

Kwankwaso Blasts Abba Yusuf’s Defection, Declares January 23 As World Betrayal Day

The leadership of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has strongly criticised Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf’s decision to quit the party, branding the move as a painful betrayal of the confidence reposed in him by party leaders and supporters. NNPP’s national leader, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, while addressing loyalists at his Miller Road residence in Kano, announced that January 23 would now be recognised within the movement as “World Betrayal Day.” He explained that the idea originated from social media reactions to the governor’s resignation, many of which described the development as an act of betrayal. “None caught my attention more than one who posted, suggesting that we declare January 23 annually as World Betrayal Day. “Therefore, as the leader and grand patron of this movement, I hereby declare that I fully support the declaration.” Kwankwaso said the date would be observed with special programmes to serve as a constant reminder of what he described as a defining moment in the history of the movement. Governor Yusuf’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature, had earlier confirmed the governor’s resignation from the NNPP in a statement issued on Friday. In its reaction, the NNPP, through a statement signed by National Publicity Secretary Ladipo Johnson, said the party received the news with deep sadness and disappointment, rejecting Yusuf’s claim that his departure was caused by an irredeemable internal crisis. “We deeply regret that Governor Abba, a man entrusted by the people of Kano State on the strength of his decades of unwavering loyalty and dedicated service to the Kwankwasiyya Movement, has now chosen to betray that sacred trust. By this action, he risks returning the state to the very forces that have long opposed its progress and the aspirations of its people. “It is noteworthy that our party, the NNPP, had recently conducted congresses for its leadership from the ward to the national convention, held on December 20, 2025, at which the governor himself was present, and INEC had supervised. “The party had also participated and won in two supplementary elections for Bagwai/Shanono and Ghari/Tsanyawa constituency, respectively held in August 2025, about three months ago. The assertion he made of an irredeemable crisis in the party is therefore baseless and an afterthought.” The party also recalled a similar episode in Kano’s political history, noting that defections had previously been punished by the electorate. “Yet, the electorate delivered a resounding verdict: In the 1983 gubernatorial election, Rimi was humiliatingly defeated by Mallam Aliyu Sabo Bakin Zuwo of the PRP, finishing second. Even more telling, of the 120 state assembly members who joined Rimi’s defection, only one was re-elected, an outcome that should serve as a sobering lesson to any politician contemplating the path of disloyalty. “While this development is deeply disturbing and painful for all who have invested in the Kwankwasiyya vision, we urge the 1,019,602 people who cast their votes for his election, as well as the good people of Kano State and Nigeria, to remain calm, patient, and restrained. Let us not descend into acrimony or division. “History has consistently shown that those who trade loyalty for expediency, and honour for deceit, rarely escape the judgment of the people. The truth endures, and the loyalty of Kano’s masses to principled leadership will ultimately prevail.”

Amine Adli Strikes In Stoppage Time As Bournemouth Shock Liverpool 3-2

Liverpool suffered a dramatic 3-2 defeat to Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium on matchday 23 of the Premier League, with the hosts snatching victory in stoppage time. Arne Slot’s side dominated the early stages, but Bournemouth threatened on quick transitions. In the 26th minute, Alex Scott capitalized on a misclearance by Virgil van Dijk, sending in a cross that Evanilson slotted home to give the home team the lead. Bournemouth doubled their advantage in the 33rd minute when James Hill set up Alejandro Jiménez, who broke free and fired a right-footed shot past Alisson Becker to make it 2-0. Liverpool pulled one back before halftime as Van Dijk redeemed himself, powering a header from a corner to reduce the deficit to 2-1 and reignite the Reds’ hopes. The second half saw Liverpool push for an equalizer, with Dominik Szoboszlai producing a stunning free-kick to level the score at 2-2, marking his third set-piece goal of the season. Bournemouth remained dangerous, with Ryan Christie testing Alisson on two occasions—once with a thunderous shot and later setting up Evanilson in a one-on-one, only for the Liverpool goalkeeper to deny both chances. Liverpool also threatened in the closing stages through Florian Wirtz, but Đorđe Petrović made a crucial save to keep the score level. However, the match was sealed in the 95th minute. Following a throw-in that functioned like a corner, defensive lapses allowed Amine Adli to finish calmly inside the box, securing a 3-2 victory for Bournemouth and leaving Liverpool stunned. The final whistle confirmed a heartbreaking night for the Reds, as Bournemouth celebrated a late and unforgettable triumph.

Antoine Semenyo Scores First Premier League Goal As Manchester City Beat Wolves 2-0

Antoine Semenyo scored his first Premier League goal for Manchester City as they secured their first league victory of 2026 with a 2-0 win over Wolves. Following a challenging week that saw consecutive defeats to Manchester United and Bodo/Glimt, City closed the gap to league leaders Arsenal to just four points. City, who started the match with Erling Haaland and Phil Foden on the bench, went ahead in the sixth minute when Omar Marmoush stretched to redirect Matheus Nunes’ cross into the net. Marmoush came close to doubling the lead just after the half-hour mark, cutting inside from the left but striking the right post. Wolves appealed for a handball against Yerson Mosquera immediately after, but a VAR review upheld the referee’s decision to let play continue, ruling that Mosquera’s arm was in a natural position. Semenyo sealed the win in first-half stoppage time, curling a low shot from the edge of the box past José Sá to make it 2-0. Wolves improved after the break but failed to test Gianluigi Donnarumma, with Mosquera’s looping header striking the crossbar. Semenyo also came close to another goal at the other end, but neither side added to the score as City claimed a morale-boosting victory.
