Canadian Court Confirms Deportation of Nigerian Pastor After Asylum Denial

Canadian Court Confirms Deportation of Nigerian Pastor After Asylum Denial

A Canadian federal court has upheld the denial of asylum for Nigerian pastor Lucky Bidemi Olorunfemi, paving the way for his deportation. The ruling, delivered by Justice McHaffie in Toronto on October 16, cited fraudulent and inconsistent documents submitted in support of his claim. Olorunfemi, who said he was a pastor in Akure, Ondo State, applied for refugee status in 2023, claiming his pro-LGBTQ stance had angered “Muslim Jihadis” who threatened his life. He alleged that his church was attacked and that he had to hide for a year before fleeing to Canada. To back his application, Olorunfemi submitted four documents, including a newspaper report of the alleged attack, a Nigerian police letter, his wife’s medical report, and a wanted poster from the so-called “Odoua Peoples Congress.” The Refugee Protection Division (RPD) found the documents riddled with errors, inconsistencies, and signs of fabrication. For example, the newspaper excerpt mirrored Olorunfemi’s own narrative and contained multiple mistakes, while the wanted poster misspelled key names and listed a different identity. Justice McHaffie also pointed out contradictions in Olorunfemi’s testimony, noting his claim of limited English proficiency conflicted with his fluent responses in court. The judge concluded that Olorunfemi had failed to provide credible evidence or address the RPD’s concerns adequately. “The application for judicial review is dismissed,” the ruling stated, confirming that Olorunfemi’s asylum claim lacked credibility and that he is to be deported from Canada.

NFF: Monies received from FIFA & CAF are for specific purposes, and audited in every cycle

The Nigeria Football Federation finds it expedient to reiterate that the monies it receives from world football-governing body, FIFA and the continental governing body, CAF, like other Federations, are usually tied to specific purposes and not gifts to the Federations. The NFF said on Friday that this fresh clarification has become necessary in view of misinformation by some fellows on social media that the Federation ‘collects’ millions of dollars from FIFA on an annual basis, as if such monies were gifts to the Federation. The country’s football-governing body explained that every money received from FIFA or CAF is tied to a specific purpose, and both FIFA and CAF send their auditors to audit the accounts in which the monies are received at the end of every year. The NFF also explained that monies meant for development purposes are usually tied to specific projects and programmes, while the FIFA Forward monies are also properly specified and under strict adherence to financial regulations, compliance, monitoring and auditing at every stage of the project or program. FIFA Forward projects, such as the ongoing NFF/FIFA Players’ Hostel and new training pitches inside the MKO Abiola National Stadium, are subjected to strict controls, monitored and verified at every stage of the work. Every stage is verified, assessed and sanctioned before further monies are released to the FIFA-approved consultants, to whom the monies are paid directly. The Federation called out the mischief of the individual reeling out fictitious figures on social media, saying he would find no reason to seek clout if he has an idea of how much it costs to organize a single match of any of the National Teams. The NFF is a disciplined organization that operates prudent and strict financial protocols that are within global financial best practices. The body has regularly presented its audited account, prepared by our auditors, PriceWaterhouseCoopers (known for its global credibility and integrity) on the floor of the Congress at every Annual General Assembly.

Nigerian Man Festus Awolowo Etame Sends Follow-Up Marriage Proposal To Tiwa Savage

Nigerian Man Festus Awolowo Etame Sends Follow-Up Marriage Proposal To Tiwa Savage

A Nigerian man, Festus Awolowo Etame, an Isoko native from Delta State, has once again captured public attention by sending a heartfelt marriage proposal to award-winning singer Tiwa Savage. The letter, dated October 23, 2025, comes just a week after his initial proposal. Festus, who identifies as a Management Consultant, Author, and Publisher, expressed deep admiration for the Afrobeats star, insisting his intentions are genuine and not motivated by fame or wealth. In the letter, Festus advised Tiwa against marrying into a polygamous home, warning that such an arrangement could disrupt her career and personal peace. He encouraged her to choose a Christian, monogamous husband who would love her and embrace her son as his own. “I’m not coming to chop and run,” he wrote, promising that a committed, faithful marriage would bring her love, stability, and fulfillment. He also highlighted the importance of sexual satisfaction in a monogamous union, saying it fosters peace and contentment. Drawing from his own upbringing in a polygamous household, Festus cautioned that rivalry and jealousy among co-wives could negatively impact her life and music career. He also shared that he was previously married to a Yoruba woman, who passed away in 2019, and expressed hope that Tiwa could fill the void in his life if it aligns with God’s will. Festus concluded by emphasizing his moral values, stating that he neither drinks nor smokes, and urged Tiwa to accept his proposal, promising to bring love, support, and stability into her life.
