Olasco Films Labels Wale Akorede And Austin Emmanuel Ingrates, Denies Allegations

Veteran Nollywood movie marketer Akeem Olatunji Balogun, popularly known as Olasco Films, has hit back at actors Wale Akorede and Austin Emmanuel, labeling them ingrates over recent allegations against him. Olasco made the comments while responding to claims from the actors in separate interviews. Wale Akorede had earlier accused Olasco of allegedly keeping all the proceeds from a movie produced for him about 16 years ago, saying he has not forgiven the filmmaker for the incident. Similarly, Austin Emmanuel claimed that Olasco Films and its affiliate, Toymax Films, had blacklisted him in the industry. Emmanuel, who has been absent from the screen for years, also alleged that Toymax had a personal dispute involving his girlfriend. Speaking in an interview with actor Tunde Ola-Yusuf, Olasco dismissed the allegations, insisting he had supported both actors at different points in their careers. He revealed that he had paid Akorede ₦2 million for the movie, at a time when production costs typically ranged between ₦700,000 and ₦1 million. Describing his relationship with Akorede as akin to helping someone only to be forgotten, Olasco insisted the claims of unpaid work were false. He also suggested that Austin Emmanuel’s accusations were an attempt to gain attention, noting that he had promoted the film that first brought Emmanuel into the spotlight.

Neo Akpofure Gives 48-Hour Ultimatum Over Rape Allegation, Threatens Defamation Suit

Big Brother Naija star Neo Akpofure has moved to take legal action against a woman who accused him of rape on X, demanding an immediate retraction and public apology. The allegation was made in a post dated February 17, 2026, by a user identified as “the violently wicked (@notralia),” who claimed that Neo raped her while they were students at the University of Calabar (UNICAL). In the post, she stated that they had been “casual sex buddies” with an understanding that he was not in a relationship, but alleged that he raped her after she confronted him about discovering otherwise. In response, Neo’s lawyers issued a strongly worded letter titled “Demand for Retraction and Public Apology for the Defamatory Publication Against Our Client, Mr. Neo Akpofure.” The legal team described the accusation as false, malicious, and defamatory, arguing that the claim has severely damaged Neo’s reputation and portrayed him as a criminal. They noted that the accuser acknowledged a consensual relationship in her own statement, insisting that the rape allegation is entirely untrue. According to the letter, the publication constitutes actionable libel under Nigerian law and exposes the accuser to civil liability and potential criminal consequences. Neo’s lawyers gave the woman 48 hours to delete the post and any related content, issue a clear public retraction stating that the allegation was false, publish a public apology on her X profile, and provide a written undertaking not to make further defamatory statements about him. They warned that failure to comply within the stipulated time would lead to the commencement of legal proceedings, including a civil defamation suit and other remedies available under Nigerian law. The development has since triggered widespread reactions online, with many debating the allegation and Neo’s decision to pursue legal redress.

Gabon Suspends Social Media Nationwide Amid Rising Unrest

The Gabonese government has announced a nationwide suspension of social media platforms “until further notice,” citing concerns that online content is fueling unrest and deepening social divisions. The decision was made public on Tuesday evening by the High Authority for Communication (HAC) during a televised address. HAC spokesperson Jean-Claude Mendome said the move was prompted by the spread of false information, cyberbullying, and the unauthorized sharing of personal data on digital platforms. While specific platforms were not named, widely used apps such as WhatsApp, Facebook, and TikTok are expected to be affected. As of Wednesday morning, social media services were still accessible, but many residents anticipate that the suspension could be enforced at any moment. The announcement comes during a politically sensitive period in Gabon. The country has been navigating a transition since the 2023 military coup led by Brice Oligui Nguema, who later won the 2024 presidential election with over 90 percent of the vote, ending more than five decades of Bongo family rule. Since taking office, the 50-year-old president has promised reforms and a departure from previous practices, including the frequent use of internet blackouts to control information. During the last election, independent and foreign media were allowed to film ballot counting, a first for the country. Despite these reforms, the government is now facing rising social and economic tensions. Teachers went on strike in December over unpaid salaries and poor working conditions, and similar disputes have spread to other public sectors, including healthcare and civil service, sparking broader unrest. Mendome explained that the suspension was aimed at curbing the repeated circulation of “inappropriate, defamatory, hateful, and insulting content” online. Gabonese citizens are now waiting to see whether the suspension will be fully enforced and how long it might last. With labour strikes ongoing and social grievances unresolved, the coming days are expected to test both the government’s authority and the resilience of the country’s digital economy.
