Rivers LG Chairman Accused Of Ordering Attack On Former Media Aide

Tensions have risen in Ahoada West Local Government Area, Rivers State, after former media aide Minnie Ogadinma accused the council chairman, Eugene Ekpelle, of ordering an assault on her. The allegation follows Ogadinma’s social media post highlighting the poor condition of Community Secondary School in Odioku. Ogadinma claimed that after sharing a video showing dilapidated classrooms and lack of basic facilities, Ekpelle allegedly came to her residence with his younger brother and aides. She said the chairman accused her of trying to tarnish his image and instructed his brother to “teach her a lesson.” She alleged that the confrontation turned violent, with both she and her mother reportedly assaulted and a shovel brought into the altercation before neighbours intervened. Ogadinma said she sustained injuries and was relieved of her duties as media aide later that day. She insisted her only intention was to highlight the school’s condition and appeal for help. The council, through the Chairman’s Chief Press Secretary, dismissed the claims as “false and deliberately misleading.” According to the statement, Ekpelle visited Ogadinma’s home for a peaceful discussion, during which she became confrontational. The council maintained that the chairman was not involved in any physical altercation and challenged the public to provide evidence supporting the allegations. The council also noted that Community Secondary School falls under the Rivers State Government, not the local council, and urged residents to ignore attempts to politicize the matter. Civil society groups and rights advocates have expressed concern over the incident. A Port Harcourt-based human rights lawyer called for a thorough investigation, emphasizing that no citizen should face violence for speaking out on public infrastructure. The Director of Pilex Centre for Civic Education said Ogadinma acted within her constitutional rights, while the Director of Relief International Africa demanded the chairman’s arrest and prosecution if the allegations are verified, along with a public apology and compensation for medical expenses. The police are yet to issue an official statement, and residents of Ahoada West have called for calm as investigations continue.

FIFA Dashes Super Eagles’ World Cup Hope, Confirms DR Congo for Play-Off Tourney

FIFA on Wednesday confirmed the final line-up for the inter-confederation play-off tournament, naming DR Congo as Africa’s representative. The development by the footballing body has dashed Nigeria’s hopes of qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. In an accreditation notice circulated to journalists ahead of the competition, FIFA detailed the tournament format and listed the six participating nations. DR Congo’s inclusion leaves no room for Nigeria, whose football federation had challenged the result of their defeat in the CAF play-offs in November 2025. The Nigeria Football Federation lodged a formal protest, alleging that DR Congo fielded ineligible players during the decisive tie, which ended 1-1 and went to penalties, where Nigeria lost. The appeal sought to overturn the result and secure the Super Eagles’ place in the inter-continental play-offs.

Sunday Igboho Faces Backlash After Wearing APC Cap At Olubadan’s Ramadan Lecture

Yoruba nation activist Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has sparked social media debate after he was spotted wearing a fez cap emblazoned with the logo of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) at a public event on Tuesday. Igboho attended the first Ramadan lecture hosted by the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rasheed Ladoja, since the monarch’s coronation. In a video that quickly went viral, the activist was seen greeting Oba Ladoja and the event’s guest lecturer, Chief Imam of Offa, Sheikh Muyideen Salmon, while wearing the APC-branded cap. The sight immediately drew criticism and comparisons to separatist leader Nnamdi Kanu, with many questioning the consistency of Igboho’s political stance. On Twitter, one user, #Jaythrilli, wrote: “Sunday Igboho shamelessly gallivanting with an APC cap on. You can’t be fighting for Yoruba freedom and still dine with the people who impoverished the same Yoruba people. Reason I don’t rate him at all.” Another, #Felixherbt, commented: “For those who still don’t understand what Mazi Nnamdi is fighting for, soon you will all understand. Today, Sunday Igboho is jumping around with the APC cartel. They promised Nnamdi Kanu a political position to win him over; he rejected it. My respect for MNK has doubled.” User #Admiral_Cyborg added: “From freeing the Yoruba from the claws of the Fulani to kissing the ring. I present to you, Sunday Igboho! This is why Kanu is still in Sokoto.” On Facebook, Samuel Olafusi expressed his surprise: “Wait, is that an APC cap on his head? If you really join, you become a saint. Why has Nnamdi Kanu not been released? They got punished for the same reasons. Nigeria is truly divided, and we live in a transitional democracy.” Some, however, offered a more measured perspective. #daddyfemzy said: “You can’t really blame this guy. He was in an asylum, declared wanted by Buhari, dead or alive. The recent APC caucus brokered his return home courtesy of Ladoja. What do you expect? Let’s be practical. If you were him, wouldn’t you?” The video has reignited conversations about the intersection of activism and politics in Nigeria, raising questions about the paths of prominent separatist figures like Sunday Igboho and Nnamdi Kanu.

Carter Efe’s Baby Mama Elma Fires Back at King Mitchy, Sets Record Straight on $100 Controversy

Carter Efe’s baby mama, Elma, has fired back at social media influencer King Mitchy after being dragged into the ongoing online controversy involving VeryDarkMan and Seyi Tinubu. The drama began when Elma commented under a post about King Mitchy, saying, “Omo she’s on something dw,” a remark that sparked reactions among followers. King Mitchy noticed the comment, took a screenshot, and shared it with the caption: “See someone I gave 100 Dollar when she came to my office to tell me bout what’s happening in her lyf. Chai.” Elma responded with a detailed account of what actually happened, rejecting King Mitchy’s version. She wrote: “You need help fr! Thank God I blocked you a month ago for a different reason. This girl called me to invite me for her shop opening, then she said she wanted to see me, that she could come to my house. I said no, I was at Charis School. She insisted I send my account, I saw a credit alert of 200k, then I knew immediately it was business. I suggested coming to her instead since her shop is close by. When I got there, she told me the real reason she invited me was to know about my relationship. I was like, wtf, why? Which day did this start? Then she laughed, ‘Am I good?’ trying to get me to say something, and I told her I’m fine. I was so pissed because I couldn’t believe she invited me over to discuss my private life. King, we’re not even friends to start with. She then said she had a proposal for me — she wanted me to model for the day, dress like a waitress. I was like, ‘Ohh, I’ll think about it.’ She begged, saying don’t worry, she’ll pay well. Money aside, there are places you can’t find me! On my way leaving, she gave me 100 dollars to give to Charis. I was like, aww, thank you. Did I attend your opening? No! So I don’t understand the rubbish she posted on her story.” Elma’s response makes it clear she felt misrepresented and unfairly dragged into the feud, emphasizing that the visit was never about the personal matters King Mitchy suggested. This latest exchange adds another twist to the ongoing social media drama surrounding King Mitchy, which has continued to dominate conversations online.

IGP Tunji Disu Sets Up Committee To Create State Police

Inspector-General of Police Tunji Disu has set up an eight-member committee to steer the implementation of state police and push forward his strategic policing agenda. The announcement came during Disu’s first meeting with senior officers of the Nigeria Police Force, shortly after his confirmation as the 23rd indigenous Inspector-General of Police. His appointment was approved by the Nigeria Police Council and followed by his swearing-in by President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa. Professor Olu Ogunsakin was named to head the committee. Addressing the officers, Disu highlighted that leadership comes with responsibility, noting that police operations must be guided by professionalism, discipline, and accountability. He stressed the importance of exercising authority with restraint and ensuring respect for human rights. “Every Nigerian deserves to be treated with dignity, fairness and justice, regardless of status or background,” he said. The IGP also announced plans to strengthen internal oversight, directing that both the Public Complaint Unit and the X-Squad operate independently to enhance transparency and accountability. On decentralisation, Disu explained that the creation of state police would enable different tiers of government to actively contribute to addressing security challenges. This initiative aligns with the Federal Government’s renewed push for state police as part of broader reforms aimed at improving national security. Tunji Disu had initially been appointed acting Inspector-General on February 24, following the resignation of former IGP Kayode Egbetokun.

You’re Disrespectful – Yul Edochie Calls Out Rufai Oseni, Questions His Moral Authority On National TV

Nollywood actor Yul Edochie has launched a scathing attack on Arise TV anchor Rufai Oseni, accusing him of arrogance and unprofessional conduct in his approach to journalism. In a video circulating online, Edochie revisited a past controversy involving Oseni, where the broadcaster was reportedly caught driving on a Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) lane in Lagos. The actor questioned Oseni’s credibility, arguing that someone who allegedly flouted traffic laws should not position himself as morally superior on national television. “Is this not the same Rufai Oseni that was caught driving against traffic? I think he drove on BRT lane… somewhere in Lagos. Rufai Oseni same guy. He drove on BRT lane which is wrong and when officials caught him instead of apologizing and admitting that he was wrong, what was he saying? He was shouting, ‘Do you know who I am? I’m going to call the governor of Lagos State.’” Edochie claimed that the journalist only apologised after a video of the incident surfaced online. “You could not even apologize. If not because somebody had a video… that was the only time when you saw the video that was when you came on national TV to apologize. If there was no video what would have happened?” The actor went on to fault Oseni’s interviewing style, accusing him of embarrassing and disrespecting guests on live television. “The first thing they should have taught you is to respect your guests. If you have a guest and you’re talking in a particular manner and the guest does not like it, first thing you do is to apologize to that guest, make the guest feel comfortable, then you continue with your question. How can you tell a guest that if the guest is not comfortable the guest is free to walk out of the studio and you call yourself a journalist? What nonsense?” He repeatedly described the presenter as disrespectful and lacking the moral authority to speak down on others. “You’re not better than anybody out there… You have no moral justification to talk to anybody on national TV that way because you’re not better than any Nigerian.” Edochie also used the opportunity to defend President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, insisting that the Nigerian leader deserves respect and time to address the country’s challenges. “Jagaban President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is the President of Nigeria… He is our president whether you like it or not. You must respect him. The man just came in, he’s been there for just months, give him time. Rome was not built in a day.” Concluding his remarks, the actor maintained that Oseni’s conduct does not reflect true journalism and urged him to learn to show respect, both to interview guests and to national leaders. The video has since generated widespread reactions across social media platforms.
