Tinubu Commends Lagos For Hosting Africa’s First E1 Electric Powerboat Championship

President Bola Tinubu has commended Lagos for becoming the first African city to host the E1 Electric Powerboat Championship, describing it as a landmark step for clean energy and marine innovation. In a message conveyed through the Lagos State Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Gboyega Akosile, Tinubu congratulated Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and the organisers for bringing the global event to Nigeria. “This championship is not just a thrilling spectacle on water but a statement of intent,” Tinubu said. “The E1 Powerboat series combines entertainment with clean energy innovation, showcasing electric-powered vessels that point the way to a greener future.” He said the event aligns with his administration’s vision for a sustainable blue economy focused on renewable energy, marine tourism, and coastal development, adding that such initiatives would create jobs and empower young Nigerians. Proudly calling himself a Lagosian, Tinubu described the state as the perfect host, saying its vibrant waterways and resilient people reflect Nigeria’s spirit of creativity and progress. The opening ceremony at the Lagos Boat Club in Ikoyi featured a regatta led by Governor Sanwo-Olu and test runs by participating teams. Sanwo-Olu noted that hosting the E1 Lagos GP goes beyond sports, describing it as a celebration of the city’s dynamism and innovation. “E1 Lagos GP is more than a race; it is a celebration of Lagos’ energy and the Spirit of Lagos,” the governor said.

We Have Nothing for Winter’: Afghan Families Face Grim Months After Deadly Earthquake

We Have Nothing for Winter’: Afghan Families Face Grim Months After Deadly Earthquake

A month after a devastating earthquake killed nearly 2,000 people in eastern Afghanistan, survivors say they are bracing for a harsh winter without shelter, food, or adequate aid. Sky News travelled through the remote, mountainous Mazar Dara valley in Nangarhar Province, where entire villages were reduced to rubble by the midnight quake — one of the worst the country has ever seen. In Wadir, a village in Nurgal District, eight-year-old Rahmanullah stood by the grave of his six-year-old brother, Abouzar, who died as their home collapsed. His older brother managed to pull him from the wreckage moments before the roof gave way. “He took my hand and said, ‘get up or the building will fall on you,’” Rahmanullah recounted. The earthquake struck as families slept, killing mostly women and children. Makeshift graveyards filled with white flags now mark where generations were buried together. The quake came amid Afghanistan’s worsening humanitarian crisis, compounded by widespread poverty, drought, and the near-total withdrawal of Western aid since the Taliban’s takeover in 2021. This year, the United States cut nearly all funding, forcing hundreds of health facilities to close and leaving millions without consistent food supplies. Despite international sanctions, locals praised the Taliban’s immediate response, including rescue missions and medical evacuations by helicopter. Rows of white tents now line the valleys — signs of emergency aid that managed to reach the isolated region. But as temperatures drop, many fear the worst is yet to come. “We don’t have anything for winter,” said Mohammad Salem, a 45-year-old father who injured his leg in the quake. “Our children are living in tents. They lie in the dirt. Everything we had is destroyed.” In the nearby village of Andarlackhak, Ajeebah, a mother of ten, lost five of her children in the disaster. Sitting in a tent with her surviving son and daughter, she said quietly, “I didn’t want to bury them… but what could I do?” Humanitarian agencies warn that thousands remain vulnerable as malnutrition spreads and freezing temperatures approach. With women barred from working and aid channels shrinking, the challenge of survival looms larger than ever.

Adelabu Declares It’s His Turn To Lead Oyo, Says 2027 Governorship Bid Is For The People

The Minister of Power and All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship aspirant in Oyo State, Adebayo Adelabu, has said his 2027 governorship ambition is motivated by his genuine love for the people of the state. Adelabu stated that his desire to lead Oyo stems from his passion to improve the lives of the poor, the less privileged, and all residents of the state. Speaking while addressing APC leaders, stakeholders, and members in the Oke-Ogun Zone 2 area, the minister said he is determined to ensure rapid progress and development across Oyo if elected governor. He attended the meeting alongside Hon. Abiodun Ambali, brother of the late former governor Abiola Ajimobi, as well as Alhaji Wasiu Sanusi, Alhaji Kola Amoo, Alhaji Fatai Adesokan, and other party stalwarts. Adelabu urged members to remain united ahead of the 2027 elections, stressing that a divided APC cannot reclaim power in the state. “United APC owns Oyo State, PDP is a tenant in Agodi Government House. A divided house can never be victorious. APC will regain Oyo State in 2027,” he said. He also called for fairness in the party’s internal affairs, assuring members that there would be no imposition of candidates. “There should be internal democracy in our party, starting from our upcoming congress. I want to assure you that no one will impose any candidate on us. Our party must unite and stand as one,” he added.

San Siro Set for Partial Demolition as Milan and Inter Move Forward with New Stadium Plans

Milan, Italy — The iconic Stadio Giuseppe Meazza, more commonly known as San Siro, is set to be largely demolished following approval for AC Milan and Inter Milan to purchase the land where the stadium stands. However, a portion of the historic structure will remain intact. According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the South-East corner of the stadium — including part of the ‘Curva Sud’ and the ‘orange’ stand — will be preserved as a nod to the venue’s rich footballing legacy. Roberto Spagnolo, project coordinator for Atalanta’s new stadium, detailed the demolition process in an interview with Gazzetta. “Demolition is carried out with mechanical machinery,” he explained. “First, non-concrete elements such as glass, barriers, and doors are removed. Then, giant hydraulic shears are used to dismantle the main structure, and finally, the concrete is separated from the reinforcing steel.” Demolition will begin from the roof and third tier, proceeding downwards. The new stadium is planned to be constructed in the current parking area adjacent to the Meazza, allowing matches to continue at San Siro during the build. The full demolition of the existing stadium is scheduled for 2031 or 2032, once the new venue is completed and operational.

Chelsea Beat Liverpool 2-1 At Stamford Bridge As Reds Suffer Third Consecutive Loss

Liverpool suffered a 2-1 defeat to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, marking their third consecutive loss in all competitions and raising concerns over their Premier League form. Chelsea took an early lead in the 14th minute when Moisés Caicedo unleashed a powerful long-range strike. Liverpool responded in the 63rd minute through Cody Gakpo, who finished a clever setup from Alexander Isak to level the score. Goodluck Jonathan Denies Accusing Late Buhari Of Boko Haram Links, Says Comments Misrepresented

Former President Goodluck Jonathan has denied suggesting that the late President Muhammadu Buhari had any ties to Boko Haram, insisting that his comments were misrepresented. In a statement on Saturday, issued by his media aide Ikechukwu Eze, Jonathan said he never alleged, hinted, or implied that Buhari supported or was connected to the terrorist group. The clarification follows Jonathan’s remarks on Friday at the launch of Scars, a book by former Chief of Defence Staff Lucky Irabor. Jonathan had recounted that Boko Haram once listed Buhari among individuals they wanted to act as mediators in peace talks with the government. Jonathan, who served as Nigeria’s president from 2010 to 2015, explained that the insurgents’ mention of Buhari occurred after his administration had established committees to engage with the group. Former presidential spokesman Garba Shehu dismissed Jonathan’s account as “false and politically motivated.” Eze stressed that Jonathan’s comments were intended to highlight Boko Haram’s deceptive strategies rather than implicate Buhari. “Boko Haram often invoked the names of respected public figures without their knowledge to create confusion, exploit divisions, and undermine public confidence in government,” the statement said. Jonathan’s remarks, Eze added, were meant to illustrate the insurgents’ duplicity. He noted that if Buhari had truly been their chosen negotiator, Boko Haram’s attacks would not have persisted after he became president. The statement concluded by reaffirming Jonathan’s respect for Buhari’s commitment to fighting terrorism and said that both leaders shared a common goal of restoring peace and stability to Nigeria. Eze urged the public to disregard distorted reports, emphasizing that Jonathan remains committed to peace, unity, and strengthening democracy.
