Transgender Woman Sentenced To 21 Months For Deceiving Man About Biological Gender

A transgender woman, Ciara Watkin, has been sentenced to 21 months in prison for deceiving a man into believing she was biologically female before engaging in sexual activity with him. Durham Crown Court heard that Watkin, 21, from Thornaby, Stockton-on-Tees, misled the victim, who said he would never have consented had he known she was born male. Prosecutors said Watkin met the man on Snapchat when they were both 18, using a female cartoon character as her profile picture. During their encounter, she claimed she was on her period to prevent him from touching her below the waist. When Watkin later disclosed that she was biologically male, the man filed a complaint with the police. He told officers he was “physically sick” upon learning the truth and felt “ashamed and embarrassed” after being “deceived.” Watkin, who has identified as female since childhood but had not undergone any gender-affirming medical treatment, was convicted of sexual assault after a jury rejected her defense that the man “should have realised” her gender identity. Recorder Peter Makepeace KC said the victim “fully believed from start to finish” that Watkin was female, describing her conduct as “lies and deception.” He also said Watkin displayed a “flippant attitude” and showed no remorse for her actions. In his statement, the victim described himself as a “heterosexual male” who felt part of his masculinity had been “taken away” by the deceit, adding that he had been ridiculed online because of Watkin’s deception.

Jonathan To Meet Tinubu Over Nnamdi Kanu’s Continued Detention After Meeting With Sowore

Human rights activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has revealed that former President Goodluck Jonathan has agreed to engage President Bola Tinubu on the continued detention of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader, Nnamdi Kanu. Sowore made this known on Friday through his X handle after a private meeting with Jonathan in Abuja. According to him, their conversation focused on the urgent need to address Kanu’s prolonged detention in a fair and just manner. “Earlier today in Abuja, I met with former President Goodluck Jonathan to discuss the continued incarceration of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu,” Sowore wrote. “President Jonathan agreed that there is an urgent and compelling need to address this matter decisively and justly. I thank him sincerely for recognising the importance of resolving Kanu’s case in the interest of peace, fairness, and national healing. Particularly assuring was that he promised to meet President Bola Tinubu to discuss this issue as soon as possible.” Sowore added that Jonathan’s stance adds weight to the growing calls from prominent Nigerians demanding justice in Kanu’s case — a list that includes Atiku Abubakar, Femi Falana (SAN), and Senator Shehu Sani. He also urged other influential figures such as Peter Obi, Chukwuma Soludo, Alex Otti, Francis Nwifuru, Peter Mbah, Hope Uzodinma, Oby Ezekwesili, and Ohanaeze Ndigbo President John Mbata to join in advocating for Kanu’s release. Kanu has been in detention since 2021 after being re-arrested abroad and brought back to Nigeria to face charges of terrorism and treasonable felony. Despite several court orders granting him bail or demanding his release, the government has yet to comply.

EFCC Arraigns Ex-NSITF Chair Ngozi Olejeme For Alleged N1 Billion Money Laundering

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arraigned former Chairman of the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF), Ngozi Olejeme, before a Federal High Court in Abuja for allegedly laundering N1 billion. In a statement on Friday, EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale said Olejeme is facing an eight-count charge bordering on money laundering, criminal conversion, and possession of illicit funds. According to the EFCC, while serving as NSITF board chairman in February 2012, Olejeme allegedly diverted N321.6 million into the Sterling Bank account of Adin Miles International Limited. She was also accused of directing one Chuka C. Eze to convert $2 million into naira for the same company, knowing that the money was proceeds of unlawful activity. Olejeme pleaded not guilty to all eight charges when they were read in court. Prosecuting counsel, Emenike Mgbemele, asked the court to fix a trial date and informed the judge that 14 witnesses would testify against the defendant. Her lawyer, Emeka Ogboguo (SAN), urged the court to grant her bail pending trial. Justice Nwite granted Olejeme temporary release to her counsel and adjourned the case until November 17, 2025, for the hearing of her bail application.

Wike Calls Himself “Golden Minister,” Says God Specially Favoured Him

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has described himself as a “golden minister,” saying he feels specially favored by God. Speaking on Thursday during the flag-off of the construction of Collector Road CN2 (Emmanuel I. Ogala Street) from Arterial N16 (Yemi Osinbajo Way) to N20 (Wole Soyinka Way) in Katampe District, Wike reflected on his political journey and milestones. Wike said, “Some of us have been very lucky. We were governors when our state turned 50, and now we are ministers as the FCT turns 50. Are we not so loved by God?” He added that his experience is a sign of divine favor, urging others not to be envious. “Well, you may sit on my seat, but that does not mean you’re loved specially like we are loved by God,” he said. WhatsApp To Roll Out Usernames In Major Privacy-Focused Update

WhatsApp is gearing up for one of its biggest privacy upgrades yet — a new feature that will allow users to connect using usernames instead of phone numbers. The update, currently being tested in WhatsApp’s beta program, will let users create unique usernames, making it possible to chat and join groups without revealing personal contact details. This change aims to enhance user privacy, especially in large communities or business groups where sharing phone numbers can feel unsafe or intrusive. Early screenshots reveal a new “Username” field in user profiles, where users can set distinctive handles and choose to hide their phone numbers entirely. While the move could make WhatsApp function more like social platforms such as Telegram or Instagram, experts have raised concerns about potential impersonation or username squatting. To address this, WhatsApp is reportedly developing verification systems to ensure authenticity and prevent abuse. Once fully launched, the username feature could redefine how WhatsApp’s two billion users connect — making the app more secure, private, and user-friendly.

APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, and Deputy National Chairman (South), Hon.
