MDPIP Suspends Three Doctors Over Alleged Negligence In Chimamanda Adichie’s Son’s Care
The Medical and Dental Practitioners Investigation Panel (MDPIP) has suspended three doctors for alleged professional negligence in the treatment of 21-month-old Nkanu Esege, son of acclaimed Nigerian author Chimamanda Adichie.
The doctors affected are Dr Tunde Majekodunmi, medical director of Euracare Multi Specialist Hospital in Lagos, Dr Titus Ogundare, and Dr Atinuke Uwajeh. They are prohibited from practising medicine in Nigeria pending the outcome of proceedings before the Medical and Dental Practitioners Disciplinary Tribunal.
In a statement issued Tuesday, MDPIP secretary Dr Enejo Abdu said the panel found a prima facie case of professional misconduct against the three doctors related to the management of Nkanu. The investigation also identified ten other doctors with a prima facie case to answer, while eight were cleared.
Nkanu passed away on January 7 after being transferred from Atlantis Hospital to Euracare for diagnostic tests and preparatory procedures ahead of a planned emergency medical evacuation.
