Marco Silva is delighted with Alex Iwobi’s peerless performances in a Fulham shirt and feels there’s more to come from the Nigerian international after he set up Fulham’s second goal in their win at Crystal Palace at the weekend.
The Fulham coach told reporters after the Whites’ win at Selhurst Park that he could see from Iwobi’s first-class attitude during pre-season that he was set to build on a fine first campaign in SW6.
“I brought him to Everton and then had the chance to have him here in London at Fulham. It was a moment for us to go [and sign him]. For me, last season was the best season from him in the Premier League and I am sure he is going to be better this season.
“From the first day of pre-season, I felt the impact he was going to have this season. He has taken more responsibility on his back and is helping the team. He’s in a happy place right now.
Silva also identified Iwobi’s versatility as being crucial to Fulham’s fine start.
“He can play in many positions. He feels he can perform better in the middle of the pitch. He is strong on the left, but playing more on the right [at the moment]. We needed him to follow [Tyrick] Mitchell, as [Mitchell] has the capacity to get up and down [the pitch].”
