FCT Police Explain Sammy West’s Arrest
The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has provided clarification on the arrest and arraignment of Samuel Ojeogwu, popularly known as Sammy West, the younger brother of Nollywood actress Regina Daniels.
SP Josephine Adeh, the spokesperson for the command, stated that on October 28, 2025, police received a petition accusing Samuel and three others of criminal conspiracy, trespass, assault, criminal intimidation, theft, and cyber-bullying. The Metro Area Command reportedly sent several invitations for Samuel to appear for questioning, but he did not respond.
“Following the ignored invitations, Samuel Ojeogwu was arrested in Lagos under a valid court-issued warrant and transferred to Abuja for further investigation,” SP Adeh explained. Investigations concluded with his arraignment on November 6, 2025, and the court remanded him at Keffi Prison pending fulfillment of bail conditions.
Family members have alleged that Samuel was denied access to legal counsel and kept incommunicado, suggesting that his detention may be linked to ongoing disputes between Daniels and her estranged husband, Senator Ned Nwoko. Daniels had earlier expressed concern over her brother’s safety, while her siblings accused Nwoko of using his influence to facilitate the arrest.
Amid the legal proceedings, Daniels hinted at a possible reconciliation with Nwoko, suggesting it could be the only way to secure her brother’s release. In a video posted on Friday, she voiced frustration with the police and the length of Samuel’s detention, saying:
“I give up! What was my brother’s offence? Fighting for his baby sister because his in-law would always beat her up? I actually accorded the Nigerian police some respect, but shame on you all. It’s obvious the highest bidder always wins. Now I’m crippled! I will return if that’s the only way — do whatever he says, get injected to be like a zombie, get locked up and raped in the house. Only then will my brother return. By law, there is no tangible case against Sammy West! Ned Nwoko is bigger than the whole of Nigeria — that’s what this means. We lost — or rather, I lost!”
The FCT Police Command emphasized its commitment to due process and professional conduct as the case continues through the courts, even as tensions between the families remain high.
