Akwa Ibom Police Rescue 2 Day Old Baby Sold for ₦800,000

Operatives of the Akwa Ibom State Police Command have arrested members of a suspected child trafficking syndicate and rescued a two-day-old baby allegedly sold for ₦800,000. The arrest was made during a routine patrol along the Nsit Atai/Oron Road, where officers intercepted a Mazda vehicle with three occupants—two women and a man—alongside the newborn. The vehicle’s occupants were unable to provide a credible explanation for being in possession of the infant. According to the police spokesperson, DSP Timfon John, the two women, Nasikpo Sonia Labere and Inemesit Okin Akpan, confessed that they had been sent from Port Harcourt, Rivers State, by two individuals—identified as Waazor Godwin and Lilian Duru—to collect the baby from a woman named Grace Inyang in Oron. Their statements led police investigators to uncover more details about the illicit operation. Subsequent investigations resulted in the arrest of Alison Eduno, who allegedly facilitated the transaction. Police also apprehended the baby’s mother and grandmother, 20-year-old Blessing Walter and 55-year-old Grace Walter, respectively. Both women, residents of Oti Oron, confessed to selling the newborn for ₦800,000. The rescued baby has since been handed over to the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Welfare in Uyo for care and protection while the investigation continues. All suspects involved are currently in police custody, as authorities work to dismantle the trafficking network.

Kidnapper of 12 year Old Girl In Rivers Traced To Enugu Prison

Kidnapper of 12 year Old Girl In Rivers Traced To Enugu Prison

The prime suspect in the kidnapping incident of a 12-year-old girl, Favour Oluwaseyi in Obio/Akpor Local Government area of Rivers State on August 7, 2024, had been traced by men of the Nigeria Police to the Enugu Correctional facility. The suspect, simply identified as Chiboy, is an inmate at the facility, as the phone number used in calling the mother of the victim and the account number used in receiving a demanded ransom of N100,000 were traced to him. Expressing their displeasure over the ugly development, the Rivers Civil Society Organisations have called on the Inspector General of Police and the Controller-General of Nigeria Correctional Service to unmask and arrest the suspect who has been operating and masterminding abductions from the Enugu Correctional facility. Speaking during a press briefing on Thursday, Chairman Rivers Civil Society Organisations, Comrade Enefaa Georgewill, said it was unfortunate that criminals now use correctional centers as hideouts to perpetrate crime and criminality in the society. The civil rights defenders however, expressed disappointment that efforts made by operatives of the police to arrest the suspect after unravelling his identity were resisted by officials of the correctional facility. He said, “The story of Oluwaseyi is one story too many in our society and it goes to show the complicity of our security agents, especially the police and wardens in correctional facilities, otherwise called prisons in the continuous atrocious crimes going on in Rivers State and across the country. “It is barbaric and shameful that eight months after a kidnapping incident, we are still talking about this matter even though we have already gotten the primary suspect who has been traced to Enugu prison. “What again is the police waiting for, except that men of the police and wardens of the correctional facility are complicit in this matter, otherwise this matter is straightforward. “We are saying the controller general of corrections should immediately ask his men in Enugu prison to provide the criminal who have kidnapped Oluwaseyi, we are equally calling on the inspector general of police to ask his men to do the needful by making sure that all those who are involved, especially the young girl that lured the victim out of the house that have been caught on camera.” RIVCSOs further called on the Nigeria Police to invite the friend of the kidnap victim who was seen on CCTV camera escorting the victim to meet the kidnappers on that fateful day. “We want the inspector general of police to ask his men to produce the girl, because from the information available to us, the girl is nowhere to be found, the girl and her parents have parked out of the house, and the police are saying that they don’t know their whereabouts. “To date, the young lady who lured Oluwaseyi out of the house is nowhere to be found. We are saying the Inspector General of Police should make sure that the police in Rivers State provide that young lady. “We are equally saying that he police should do everything humanly possible within their powers to make sure that all those who are found culpable in this matter, especially the wife of the kidnapper in prison whose phone number have been gotten should equally be brought back for security, anything outside this, we will be left with no other choice than to escalate this matter beyond this Press briefing.” Explaining how his 12-year-old daughter fell into the hands of kidnappers, the 44-year-old father, Mr Ogunsinasi Oluwaseyi, said his daughter was lured out of his house in broad daylight by a neighbour on August 7, 2024. He said the female neighbour led his innocent daughter to a waiting strange man who, upon laying his hand on his daughter, immediately took her away in a tricycle. The distraught father of four is now begging well-meaning Nigerians to come to his aid in helping him secure the release of his abducted daughter, who had been in captivity for eight months. Narrating the incidents that preceded his daughter’s abduction, he said, “On the 7th of August, 2024, I was at my place of work when my wife called me and said my daughter is missing. I was shocked because that was the least thing I expected. “My wife told me that she was watching TV in the sitting room with the children, alongside a friend of my kidnapped daughter and my wife went to the toilet to ease herself in our bedroom, before my wife could finish from the toilet to return to the sitting room, my daughter and her friend were nowhere to be found. “My wife checked at the next apartment within the compound, the two girls were nowhere to be found, my wife also checked outside but couldn’t find either of them and she decided to raise an alarm. “One hour later, my kidnapped daughter’s friend was seen running back, so my wife asked her. Where is your friend Favour that who of you was watching TV together in the sitting room? She said Favour followed a strange man, that both of them followed the man and as the man was going Favour followed the man and she was behind telling Favour, do you know this man you are following but she said nothing. “That day we searched all round but couldn’t find her, I even called one of my brothers to help me search, but could not find my Favour anywhere.” Mr. Ogunsinasi explained that the kidnappers, after a week called his wife on the phone and demanded a ransom of N200,000, which N100,000 was paid following much pleadings, adding that the kidnappers despite receiving the ransom and acknowledging receipt, refused to release the little girl. “On the 9th day of August, a number called my wife and the caller asked my wife to come and collect my daughter at Eleme junction, on her way going, the person called again and was now asking how much are you coming with and my wife said you…

Nigerian Navy Hands Over Kidnap Suspects to Police

The Nigerian Navy on Wednesday handed over a three-man kidnapping gang to the Police, following their arrest in connection with the abduction of a naval officer, Lieutenant Cynthia Akor and other victims in Abuja. Commodore Oluseyi Oladipo, Commander of the Naval Unit in Abuja, said the officer was kidnapped on Friday, March 21, 2025, around Mpape, Abuja. He was later tracked to a forest hideout in Nasarawa State where she and other victims were rescued. Until the abduction, she was a staff of Armed Forces Radio, which is based at the Mogadishu Cantonment, off the Abuja-Nyanya Expressway. Sources confirmed that Lieutenant Akor was kidnapped in the evening of Friday March 21, 2025 while she was driving in a Toyota saloon car along with another passenger at approximately 7:45 p.m. The abduction was carried out by four armed assailants who opened fire before seizing the victims. The abducted individuals, including Gold Alfred, a resident of Bwari, and an unidentified person, were returning home after visiting a relative in Beggar Quarry, Mpape. According to Oladipo, the successful operation was carried out by a joint Quick Response Squad from the Naval Base, in collaboration with troops from the Guards Brigade of the Nigerian Army and personnel from the Nigeria Police Force. “In line with our mandate to provide security within the FCT and surrounding areas, we maintain strong synergy with other security agencies,” he said. “Despite ongoing efforts, the FCT continues to face threats including kidnappings, ‘one-chance’ abductions, and car thefts.” The base commander explained that after receiving the report of the officer’s abduction, a joint search-and-rescue mission was launched, supported by both human and technical intelligence. The victims were freed in the early hours of Sunday, March 23. Subsequent follow-up operations led to the arrest of two prime suspects and an accomplice, all of whom have confessed to kidnapping, cattle rustling, and other criminal activities. The suspects, along with relevant exhibits, were formally handed over to the FCT Police Command for further investigation and prosecution. Commodore Oladipo reaffirmed the Naval Unit’s commitment to the vision of the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ogalla, to maintain a motivated naval force capable of ensuring security across Nigeria’s maritime and land-based environments. He also expressed appreciation to the Minister of the FCT, Barrister Nyesom Wike, for his leadership in enhancing security within the capital. “The Base will continue to collaborate with other security agencies to ensure that Abuja remains safe and secure,” he concluded.

Plateau Killings: We Will Surprise Those Responsible – IGP Egbetokun

The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has vowed that those behind the recent massacre in Plateau State will face justice, assuring that the security forces will deliver a decisive response to the violence. Egbetokun gave the assurance on Tuesday during his visit to Plateau State, following the killing of 51 residents in the Zikke community of Bassa Local Government Area. The attack, which occurred early Monday, also left many displaced and homes destroyed, just two weeks after a similar incident in Bokkos LGA that claimed dozens of lives. Condemning the killings in strong terms, the IGP emphasized the gravity of the situation and its impact on farming communities in the state. “We condemn in the strongest possible terms these acts of violence. We recognize the severity of the incident and its negative impact on the local farming communities in Plateau State,” he said. While refraining from disclosing specific operational plans, Egbetokun promised that the perpetrators would soon face the full force of the law. “I don’t want to say much on this, but I would say that this criminal element will soon be surprised because I know that their days are numbered,” he stated. The police chief also urged residents to refrain from profiling criminals based on ethnicity, stressing that crime must not be seen through a tribal lens. “Criminals don’t have tribes. They are just criminals,” he said. “Let us work together to ensure that the criminals in our midst are dealt with as criminals and not on the basis of where they come from.” The IGP’s visit marks his third official trip to Plateau State, underscoring the federal government’s growing concern over the resurgence of violence in the region.

Killing of 25 Persons in Enugu by Herdsmen Is Fake News – Advocacy Group

The Concerned Professionals for Good Governance, a leadership advocacy group, has refuted reports alleging that 25 persons were killed by herdsmen in Enugu State. In a statement titled “Debunking the Politricks of Insecurity: Enugu State on Our Minds,” the group described the report as false, malicious, and aimed at discrediting the state government’s efforts on security. The coordinator of the group, Mr. Okechukwu Nwafor, stated that after investigating the viral claim, they found no evidence of such an attack in Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area. He said the report, which claimed dozens were killed and injured, was “a devious fabrication” intended to create panic and undermine the growing reputation of Enugu as a peaceful and secure state. According to the group, Enugu State maintains a digitized security control center and works in close collaboration with the police, military, and other security agencies to ensure the safety of its citizens. It also noted that Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah’s administration has significantly invested in security infrastructure and public-private partnerships to enhance safety across communities. The group added that attempts to politicize insecurity through the spread of fake news were tactics used by political actors seeking to tarnish the state’s progress in sectors like infrastructure, healthcare, and education. They urged the media and public to verify sensitive reports before accepting or sharing them, especially those related to security and public safety. Reaffirming confidence in the government, the group declared Enugu State safe and on track to becoming a leading destination for tourism, investment, and national events. It called on citizens and media professionals alike to resist the “politricks of insecurity” and to promote unity and truth for the continued progress of the state. Enugu State is safe and will remain so, as the government is unalterably committed to the protection of lives and property

Eight Killed as Bus Hits Explosive Device in Borno; Tensions Rise Over Minister’s Comments

Eight Killed as Bus Hits Explosive Device in Borno Tensions Rise Over Minister’s Comments

At least eight people, including a driver and seven passengers, were killed on Saturday after their vehicle hit an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) suspected to have been planted by Boko Haram terrorists along the Maiduguri–Damboa–Biu federal highway. The tragic incident occurred around 11:30 a.m. near Gidan Kaji (Poultry House) in Konduga Local Government Area, a location that has remained deserted for over a decade due to insurgency. A convoy of private and commercial vehicles was being escorted by troops from Damboa to Maiduguri when the explosion happened, seriously injuring several others who were later rushed to the State Specialist Hospital in Maiduguri for treatment. The District Head of Damboa, Lawan Maina, confirmed the casualties and urged the Federal Government and security agencies to intensify their efforts in combating terrorism in the region. The deadly attack came shortly after former Borno Commissioner for Trade and Commerce, Hon. Yerima Lawan Kareto, criticized the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, for downplaying the security concerns raised by Governor Babagana Zulum. Governor Zulum had earlier warned that Borno may be losing ground to terrorists, citing recent Boko Haram attacks and displacement of military formations in areas like Wulgo, Izge, Sabon Gari, and Wajirko. In response to Zulum’s statement, Minister Idris issued a press release claiming the government remained committed to defeating terrorism and described the governor’s remarks as misinformed. The minister’s aide, Rabiu Ibrahim, later clarified that the controversial headline attributed to his boss—“Ignore Zulum, Boko Haram has not taken over Borno”—was categorically false and a misrepresentation of the minister’s comments. Still, Hon. Kareto maintained that the rebuttal was insufficient, insisting that the minister should visit Borno personally to understand the gravity of the situation and offer an apology to both the state government and its people. Kareto, a native of Damasak, challenged Minister Idris to travel with him to the frontline communities to witness the reality firsthand. He emphasized that the people of Borno continue to support Governor Zulum’s administration, which has consistently provided critical resources to security agencies since 2019. Kareto urged the governor and frontline troops not to be discouraged by the Minister’s remarks but to remain focused in the battle against insurgency. “Borno’s resilience should not be taken for granted,” Kareto stated, adding that only an on-ground assessment could help federal authorities better understand the renewed threat posed by Boko Haram.
