Boko Haram Overruns Military Base In Borno, Killing Commanding Officer And Several Soldiers

Boko Haram insurgents have taken control of a military base in Borno State, killing the commanding officer and several other soldiers in a violent early-morning attack. The assault occurred on Monday in Kukawa Local Government Area, with sources reporting that the terrorists struck the base around 12:30 a.m. “They stormed the town from multiple directions and attacked the military camp,” a local source said. Security insiders added that the insurgents forced troops out of the facility, set military vehicles on fire, and seized ammunition. “I cannot say much about the casualties, but it’s very sad that we also lost the CO here,” one source revealed. The same base was targeted last month, but troops successfully repelled that attack, killing numerous insurgents. The Commanding Officer was widely praised for his leadership during that defense, receiving accolades from both the Kukawa community and local lawmaker Karta Maina Ma’aji Lawan. Speaking on Monday’s attack, Lawan described it as a tragic setback, highlighting the severity of the base being overrun. The incident comes shortly after a Boko Haram attack on a military base and an Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp in Ngoshe town, Gwoza Local Government Area, which resulted in multiple deaths among soldiers and civilians.

Fire Breaks Out At Civil Service Headquarters In Abuja, No Casualties Reported

A fire broke out on Monday morning at the headquarters of the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation in Abuja, causing panic among workers and visitors. Thick smoke was reported rising from a section of the federal civil service building, prompting a swift response from emergency teams. Officials said the cause of the fire had not been confirmed, though early reports suggest it may have resulted from a power surge within the facility. The Federal Fire Service and other emergency responders were quickly deployed, with firefighters seen working to control the flames and prevent the fire from spreading to other parts of the building. Security personnel cordoned off affected areas to ensure that emergency operations could proceed safely and without interruption. There were no immediate reports of casualties, and authorities plan to carry out a full assessment of the damage once the fire is fully extinguished. Investigations into the incident are ongoing, and further details are expected to emerge.

Pastor Ibiyomie Claims Spiritual Intervention Secured Wike’s Rivers Governorship And Re-Election

Pastor David Ibiyomie of Salvation Ministry has claimed that he played a key spiritual role in helping Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, secure the governorship of Rivers State. During a sermon at the church’s Port Harcourt headquarters, Ibiyomie said he first met Wike when the politician’s election victory was in serious jeopardy. In a video circulating online, the pastor recounted, “Wike lost in the High Court, lost in the Appeal Court, and the Supreme Court had passed judgement against him becoming governor. I called him while I was in Israel; he was shaking, but I told him not to fear. I assured him God would intervene. He said, ‘Papa, I believe you.’ At the time, he was in PDP while APC was in power, and we were holding five nights of Glory. After the program, Wike approached me on Tuesday, with judgement scheduled for Friday. I told him that even if the judgement was against him, I command it to turn around. He had no money then, being in the opposition. When everything turned in his favour, he said, ‘Papa, I knew this is God.’ I was the only priest invited during his Thanksgiving.” Ibiyomie also said he intervened spiritually during Wike’s re-election when winning again seemed unlikely. “During his second attempt, it looked like he would lose. Plans were already in place to ensure his defeat. Someone approached me saying, ‘You prayed for Wike; let’s see how he wins.’ He was shaking, so I covenanted with God. I gave millions to God on his behalf, without telling him. I said, ‘Lord, not for his sake, but for my sake,’” Ibiyomie added. According to the pastor, these spiritual interventions were decisive in turning both of Wike’s elections in his favour.

Terrorists Now Demand Drugs, Virgins For Kidnapped Victims – Afenifere Raises Alarm Over South-West Insecurity

The pan-Yoruba socio-political organisation, Afenifere, has raised alarm over the growing number of violent attacks across the South-West, calling on federal and state governments to urgently step up action against bandits and criminal gangs. In a statement released on Saturday, the group’s National Publicity Secretary, Jare Ajayi, expressed deep concern about the increasing loss of lives in several states in the region. Ajayi also decried the brutal manner in which kidnapping victims are being treated, saying abductees are often subjected to severe beatings and degrading conditions while in captivity. He cited several troubling incidents reported in different parts of the South-West, including attacks on churches, police stations, homes and major highways in Ondo State. He also mentioned communities reportedly overrun by criminals in Kwara State, the killing of farmers and attacks on travellers along the Igbeti–Kisi road in the Oke-Ogun area of Oyo State, as well as violent kidnappings in Ekiti State where some victims were murdered and their bodies held while ransom was demanded. Describing the ransom demands made by some kidnappers, Ajayi said: “The greatest demonstration of the heartlessness of these evil-doers was their demands of N1.5 million, Indian hemp, cocaine, a synthetic drug known as ICE, and cartons of canned beer for the release of a corpse in their captivity.” He also revealed another shocking demand allegedly made by the criminals. “The kidnappers even hilariously asked for virgins to be brought in exchange for four men that they had previously abducted.” Ajayi warned that insecurity has reached a point where even homes can no longer be considered safe. “Until recently, the home environment was considered a ‘safe haven’. “Unfortunately, that is no longer the case. A couple was attacked in front of their home in Akure, Ondo State, with the husband shot while trying to prevent his wife from being abducted,” he said.

Ex Lagos Councillor Arrested As NDLEA Recovers 40kg Of Skunk In Ibeju-Lekki Home

Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency have arrested a former councillor in Ibeju-Lekki Local Government Area, Sheleru Olalekan, over his alleged involvement in drug trafficking. Olalekan, 45, who previously served two terms as councillor representing the Orimedu community and now works as a legislative aide, was apprehended on March 2, 2026, at his home in Ilado, Ibeju-Lekki. The agency’s spokesman, Femi Babafemi, disclosed in a statement on Sunday that officers recovered 40 kilograms of skunk, a potent form of cannabis, from one of the rooms during a search of the residence. “In his statement, Sheleru admitted ownership of the exhibit and the property where it was recovered. “He said he had previously served two terms as a Councilor representing Orimedu community in Ibeju-Lekki local government council,” Babafemi said. In another operation in the Federal Capital Territory, NDLEA operatives on March 3 arrested a 32-year-old trader, Emeka Hyginus Okwor, who was travelling from Obollo-Afor in Enugu State to Zuba in Abuja. During a search of his luggage, officers found 1,000 tablets of tapentadol 250mg concealed inside baby diapers. Daniel Bwala Accuses Al Jazeera Of ‘Opposition-Style Journalism’ After Viral Head To Head Interview

Daniel Bwala, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Policy Communication, has criticised Al Jazeera following his appearance on the programme Head to Head, accusing the international broadcaster of conducting what he described as “opposition-style journalism.” Bwala was interviewed by Mehdi Hasan on the show, which examined the performance of Tinubu’s administration under the theme “Nigeria: ‘Renewed Hope’ or ‘Hopelessness’?” During the discussion, Hasan confronted him with old video clips and statements he made while he was in the opposition camp and supporting former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar. The interview quickly went viral on social media, prompting Bwala to respond with a statement defending his position. He insisted that he remains ready to defend the Tinubu administration anywhere in the world. “I remain prepared to appear before any interviewer, anywhere in the world, any day and at any time, to defend this government and its policies.” Bwala explained that the producers of Head to Head initially approached him to discuss issues affecting the country, including security, corruption and the economy. According to him, the focus later shifted unexpectedly to his past criticisms of Tinubu. “Nowhere in our almost six months of communication did they mention that they were going to challenge my past. If that had been their plan, ethically and professionally, they were supposed to inform me so I could prepare my response.” He added that he rejected what he described as the host’s approach during the interview. “But that’s okay, ethically, that is on them, not on me. I refused to swallow the pill of Mehdi’s ‘opposition research-style journalism,’ and even today, if you carefully compare what he read as quotes from organisations and groups, you will see that many were inaccurate and some were outright fake news.” Addressing questions about his previous remarks about Tinubu, Bwala said those comments were made when he was in opposition politics. “But I will leave that for another day. As for what I said about President Tinubu in the past, I am glad those were things I said when I was in the opposition saddle with such zeal. It is all politics.” He also referenced political developments in the United States to make his point. “Half of Donald Trump’s cabinet is made up of people who once spoke against him, and quite a number of people in our own cabinet also spoke against President Tinubu in the past. Those things do not bother him if you care to know.” Bwala dismissed the reactions to the interview, describing them as temporary excitement from opposition supporters. “The majority of the naysayers are members of the opposition and their sympathisers. It does not bother me one bit.” “Their temporary excitement over the interview has not lasted and will not last, because it does not take away their obvious problem of lack of vision, mission in conducting and managing a political party; yet they seek to manage Nigeria.” He concluded by challenging opposition parties to present their ideas and face similar questioning. “Clearly they have no path to victory and no alternative policies or program for the Nigerian people. And if they say they do, they can as well go to head to head and be interrogated on that; as the saying in Hausa goes ‘Ga fili Ga doki’.”

Petrol Price Rises To N1,040 Per Litre In Lagos, N1,080 In Abuja

Petrol prices have risen again in parts of Nigeria, with motorists now paying as much as N1,040 per litre in Lagos and up to N1,080 per litre in Abuja. The latest increase followed the decision by Dangote Refinery to raise its ex-gantry price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) to N995 per litre earlier in the week. A survey carried out on Saturday across several filling stations in Lagos and the Federal Capital Territory showed that many outlets had already adjusted their pump prices. At NNPC retail stations located in Ilasa, Apple Junction and Ago Palace Way in Lagos, petrol was being sold at N1,040 per litre. The new rate represents an increase of N47 compared with the former price of N993 per litre. Along the Oshodi/Apapa Expressway, both Emadeb Energy and PM Petroleum also dispensed petrol at N1,040 per litre. In Festac Town, Techno Oil adjusted its pump price to N1,050 per litre, while MRS stations across Lagos sold the product at N1,057 per litre. In Abuja, motorists encountered varying prices at different stations. Gegu Oil Nigeria on Kubwa Expressway sold petrol at N1,050 per litre, while Empire Energy stations offered it at N1,080 per litre. However, an AP filling station in the capital dispensed the product at N959 per litre. The rise in pump prices comes amid heightened tensions in the Middle East, which have driven fluctuations in global crude oil markets. On Friday, the price of crude oil climbed to about $91 per barrel as the conflict involving the United States, Israel and Iran continued to intensify across the region.
