Dele Momodu Rejects Claims Of Anti-Peter Obi Bias, Affirms Continued Support

Dele Momodu, a prominent leader of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has denied claims that he harbours anti-Peter Obi views, insisting that he has always supported the former Anambra governor. The clarification came on his verified X account, where Momodu responded to a user, @Blazeregent, who accused him of bias against Obi. The criticism followed Momodu’s earlier remark urging Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) stalwart Bode George to purge himself of what he described as anti-Atiku Abubakar sentiments. The X user wrote: “Purge yourself anti-OBI first. You have no moral right to criticize matters like this. If you have the right to be perpetual anti-OBI, so is anyone else to be perpetual anti-ATIKU. Daddy wa, please go and rest.” In reply, Momodu rejected the allegation, saying his support for Obi dates back to when Atiku selected him as his running mate in a previous presidential election. “I can never be anti-Obi. The first time I supported Obi was when Atiku picked him as running mate,” he said. He also dismissed suggestions of any tension between Obi and Atiku, noting that both leaders continue to engage with mutual respect in public and private. “I’m not aware they are enemies. They always treat each other with mutual respect in private and public,” Momodu added. The comments come amid heightened political debates within opposition parties as they reposition ahead of upcoming elections.

Federal Ministry Of Health Orders Immediate Retirement Of Directors Who Have Served Eight Years

The Federal Ministry of Health has directed the immediate disengagement of all directors who have spent eight years in the directorate cadre, in line with the revised Public Service Rules. A memo obtained in Abuja on Tuesday shows that the directive affects directors within the ministry, federal hospitals, agencies and parastatals under its supervision. The development follows an earlier directive by the Federal Government mandating Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to strictly implement the eight-year tenure limit for directors and permanent secretaries. The order was reinforced through the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation. In the memo signed by Tetshoma Dafeta, who oversees the Office of the Permanent Secretary at the ministry, management was reminded that directors who had completed eight years in the rank as of December 31, 2025, must be retired immediately. The directive referenced Section 020909 of the Revised Public Service Rules 2021. The circular instructed heads of agencies and parastatals to ensure affected officers hand over all official property without delay. It also directed that their salaries be halted through the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS) and that any payments made beyond their disengagement date be refunded to the government treasury. The memo further cited a circular issued on February 10, 2026, by the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, reaffirming the enforcement of the policy. Institutions were asked to submit a nominal roll of all directorate-level officers — including those on CONMESS 07, CONHESS 15 and CONRAISS 15 — to designated ministry email addresses for monitoring purposes. Officials from both the ministry and the Head of Service’s office are expected to conduct compliance checks. The directive warned that failure to comply would attract strict sanctions. The tenure policy stems from the revised Public Service Rules approved by the Federal Executive Council in September 2021 and officially implemented from July 27, 2023. Under the updated rules, permanent secretaries are limited to a four-year term, renewable only upon satisfactory performance, while directors on Grade Level 17 or equivalent must compulsorily retire after eight years in the position.

A woman has posted a disturbing video on TikTok claiming she was raped in her apartment on the morning of February 15th and revealing that she has been struggling with suicidal thoughts. In the video, she said she often relies on alcohol to sleep due to insomnia: “I have insomnia. If I’m not drunk, I can’t sleep… On Saturday, I drank, but it wasn’t working. I slept around 6 a.m., and around 9 a.m., I heard knocking on my door… I thought maybe it was one of my neighbors.” She described the terrifying assault in her own words: “The minute I opened the door, I got pushed back. I hit my head on the fridge and passed out. When I opened my eyes, there was a man over me. My clothes were stuffed in my mouth, I was tied, and I was just there, mumbling, hoping somebody could hear me… Most people would have gone to church, so no one could help.” She later received a message from the alleged attacker, claiming he intentionally hurt her: “The person texted me… he said he was trying to simulate it being the first person that I could sleep with. UK To End Physical Visa Stickers For Nigerians, Introduces Mandatory eVisa From February 25, 2026

The United Kingdom has confirmed that starting February 25, 2026, Nigerian travellers will no longer receive physical visa stickers in their passports, as the country moves fully to an electronic visa system. The announcement was made in Abuja by UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI), which stated that all newly approved Visit visas for Nigerians will now be issued as digital eVisas under the UK’s broader transition to a modernised, paperless border process. Under the updated system, successful applicants will not get visa vignettes placed inside their passports. Instead, their immigration status will be stored online and accessible through a secure UKVI account. Authorities stressed that the visa application steps remain unchanged. Applicants must still complete the online form, visit a Visa Application Centre to submit biometric data, and meet all existing requirements. The only difference is how the visa is delivered and verified after approval. UKVI also clarified that Nigerians who already possess valid physical visa stickers will continue to use them until they expire. There is no requirement to switch to an eVisa before the end of their current validity period. British Deputy High Commissioner in Abuja, Gill Lever, said the transition is designed to make travel smoother while enhancing border security. “We are committed to making it easier for Nigerians to travel to the UK. This shift to digital visas streamlines a key part of the process, strengthens security and reduces reliance on paper documentation,” she said. According to UKVI, the digital system is expected to reduce delays since passports will no longer need to be retained for visa endorsements. Travellers will also be able to check and share their immigration status online at any time. Officials noted that unlike physical stickers, eVisas cannot be lost, stolen or tampered with, and they allow real-time verification of a traveller’s status. The move forms part of a wider overhaul of the UK’s border management system, marking a significant procedural change for Nigerian visitors, students and business travellers who will now rely entirely on a secure digital immigration record for entry clearance.

Senator, Kenneth Eze Calls For 16-Year Single Presidential Tenure To Boost Policy Continuity

Kenneth Eze has suggested a major overhaul of Nigeria’s presidential tenure system, proposing a single 16-year term in place of the current arrangement of two four-year terms. The senator, who represents Ebonyi Central under the APC and serves as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Information and National Orientation, made the remarks while addressing journalists at his country home in Ohigbo-Amagu, located in Ezza South Local Government Area. Eze expressed concern that the existing four-year tenure structure disrupts governance and long-term development. He argued that frequent election cycles distract leaders from fully implementing policies and completing projects. “Every four years, we return to campaign mode. By the third year, governance slows as attention shifts to re-election; that is why projects are abandoned, and policies are not allowed to mature. “Nigeria’s constitution provides for a four-year presidential term, renewable once, but if you ask me, I will advocate one tenure of 16 years. It sounds controversial, but it will allow policies to run their full course and stabilise the system,” Eze said. He clarified that his proposal should not be interpreted as an attack on democratic values but rather as an invitation to rethink governance structures in the country. According to the lawmaker, any move toward extending presidential tenure would require an inclusive national dialogue and constitutional amendments to ensure that democratic principles, checks and balances, and accountability mechanisms remain intact.

EFCC Detains El-Rufai Overnight Over Alleged N423bn Fraud

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has detained former Kaduna State governor, Nasir el-Rufai, following fresh questioning over alleged financial misconduct linked to his administration. Sources revealed that el-Rufai, a key figure in the African Democratic Congress, appeared at the EFCC headquarters in Abuja on Monday after receiving an invitation from the anti-graft agency. After hours of interrogation, officials decided to keep him in custody overnight as investigations continue. “He is in our custody, and he is going to spend the night there.” Insiders said a decision on his release would depend on the outcome of further questioning expected to continue on Tuesday. El-Rufai served as governor of Kaduna State from 2015 to 2023. In 2024, the Kaduna State House of Assembly indicted him over allegations of diverting N423 billion in public funds and involvement in money laundering. The lawmakers called on relevant anti-corruption agencies to probe the claims. Beyond the EFCC investigation, the former governor has also been invited by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission and is expected to face interrogation on Wednesday. Last Thursday, security operatives attempted to apprehend him at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja when he returned from Cairo, Egypt. He later alleged that the ICPC acted on the directive of the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, instructing Department of State Services officials to arrest him upon arrival. Speaking during an interview on Prime Time on Arise Television, el-Rufai said “someone wiretapped” Ribadu’s phone, which allowed him to hear the directive ordering his arrest. On Monday, the DSS filed a three-count charge against him for allegedly intercepting the NSA’s telephone conversation. He is expected to be arraigned in court over the matter.

100 US Military Personnel Deploy To Bauchi To Train And Support Nigerian Armed Forces

About 100 United States military personnel, accompanied by equipment, have arrived at Bauchi Airfield to support the Nigerian Armed Forces in training, technical assistance, and intelligence-sharing, the Defence Headquarters (DHQ) announced on Monday. Director of Defence Information, Major General Samaila Uba, said the deployment is part of ongoing Nigeria–US defence collaboration, following discussions during a recent joint military working group meeting. “The arrival of US personnel is planned and deliberate, responding to a formal request from the Federal Government of Nigeria to address specific military training needs,” the DHQ stated. The partnership is intended to provide Nigerian forces with access to specialized technical expertise, strengthening their ability to counter terrorist threats and protect vulnerable communities across the country. Major General Uba emphasized that the US personnel are advisory specialists focused solely on training and guidance, not combat operations. All activities will be conducted under the authority and supervision of the Nigerian government in close coordination with the Armed Forces of Nigeria. As part of the cooperation, Nigerian troops and US advisers will participate in joint training exercises and intelligence-focused initiatives designed to improve the military’s capacity to identify, confront, and neutralize extremist groups threatening national stability. “The Armed Forces of Nigeria remain fully committed to defeating terrorist organizations that endanger the country’s sovereignty, security, and citizens,” the DHQ said, promising regular updates on the collaboration. This deployment reflects the deepening defence partnership between Nigeria and the United States, reinforcing joint efforts to boost national security and combat terrorism.

Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan Protests Alleged Exclusion From Senate Committee

Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central, has raised fresh concerns over what she described as unfair treatment within the Senate after her alleged removal from the Senate Committee on the North Central Development Commission. The situation reportedly unfolded when the lawmaker arrived at a committee session expecting to participate, only to discover that her name was not included on the official list of members. The development sparked immediate questions, given that the commission’s mandate directly affects states in the North Central geopolitical zone, which she represents. In a bid to clarify the matter, Akpoti-Uduaghan was directed to the office of the committee chairman, Senator Titus Tartenger Zam of Benue North-West, where the committee clerk was said to be present. Her visit reportedly resulted in a tense exchange, with the senator alleging that the chairman hinted at acting on instructions from higher authorities, though no specifics were disclosed. Describing the incident as part of a broader pattern, she said, “This incident is part of a recurring pattern of marginalisation. All senators are constitutionally equal in status, authority, and mandate.” She questioned the constitutional and procedural basis for excluding her from a committee that oversees matters central to her region. In a statement issued in Abuja by her media aide, Mike Idoko, the senator further alleged that tensions escalated when aides attached to the committee chairman confronted members of her media team. “Approximately six aides, including the chairman’s secretary, seized my cinematographer’s phone and engaged in verbal hostility. This is unacceptable,” she said. Akpoti-Uduaghan reaffirmed her commitment to representing the interests of her constituents, stating that her stance is rooted in the electoral mandate given to her by the people of Kogi Central. She pledged to continue advocating for fairness and equal treatment within the legislative chamber.
